The Arthur Roger Gallery is pleased to present From Start to Finish (and Everything in Between), an exhibition of recent works by Robert Currie. The exhibition will be on view at Arthur Roger Gallery, located at 434 Julia Street, from May 4 - July 6, 2024. The gallery will host an opening reception on Saturday, May 4 from 6-8 pm.
Through his kinetic wall-based artworks, Robert Currie delves into the dynamic between order and chaos, employing a Constructivist approach that merges systematic techniques with poetic expression. His pieces, composed of meticulously arranged Nylon filaments, reflect a captivating exploration of perception and interconnectedness. Subtle shifts in the orientation of the medium manipulates the interplay of light, evolving with the passage of time and the viewer’s perspective.
Inspired by luminaries in Op-art such as Bridget Riley and Jesús Rafael Soto, Currie blends precision structure with evocative mood, using his signature ‘bock wrapping’ technique to blur the boundaries between mathematics and architecture. It is also the unmistakable human touch present in the production of Currie’s current practice that brings his work to life. Currie constructs each piece by hand, precisely placing, wrapping, threading, and twisting his chosen materials to create structures that are at once both static and fluid.
A London native, Currie's artistic journey began with a First Class BA (Hons) in Design & Art Direction, followed by an MA at the renowned Royal College of Art. For the past 25 years, his work has been featured globally in both solo and group shows, as well as installations and commissioned works, and is housed in a number of private and public prestigious collections.
Since 2001, he has been represented by galleries including Van der Grinten, Cologne; Blancpain Art Contemporain, Switzerland; Gimpel-Müller, Paris; Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery, New York; and the Arthur Roger Gallery, New Orleans. This will be Currie’s debut exhibition in New Orleans.
