I'm so thankful for this video. I'm taking a college beginner sewing class but the teacher goes SO insanely fast that we struggle to keep up with the concepts and techniques. It's nice to be able to rewatch this as much as I need to.
I am so happy we could help. We have TONS of sewing technique videos, so please check those out! Good luck with your course!
THANK YOU!! THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IVE SEWED SOMETHING SUCCESFULLY WITHOUT ANYONE ELSES HELP AND WITHOUT ANYTHING GOING WRONG!!! AND I HATE SEWING!! YIPPEEE!!!
BEGINNER HERE!! Thank you so much short, detailed, information really helps stay in the work flow thank you!!!
You're so welcome! YOU CAN DO THIS! CZcams is the best way to learn how to sew, that and practice! I bet you'll be a pro in no time!
This is an AMAZING tutorial, so informative, easy speed to follow (without even slowing down the playback, which i absolutely love as most sewing videos go WAYYY too fast and id consider myself semi experienced at this point).
So helpful!!! I am teaching myself to sew from scratch, as a mature adult, and this is one of those things that pattern makers (and most content providers) assume even the most basic sewer knows. I literally knew nothing when I started this dressmaking journey. Thank you.
You're welcome, glad it helped!
Thank you! I’ve never sewn a dart before, and this was most helpful on my current project.
I needed this video so much. I knew how to do darts, but reviewing the basics helped a lot. Thanks!!
Happy to help!
This was so incredibly helpful. I am learning how to make my own blouse blocks and was really confused by dart markings. Now I know what they are for, and how to use them. Thank you!
This is the most understanding thing I’ve found for darts honestly, I’ve been staring at my pattern instructions for days trying to figure out what it means😭😭
You got this!
thank you so much! darts are something new in my sewing journey and i was very confused on how to handle them-- i can now use this video aas reference for the waistcoat im making for a cosplay!
Wonderful, glad we could help!

It worked! Thank you for this great, no-fuss tutorial.
Once again, great tips! I wish you could upload videos more often! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Oh my! I've always been anxious about trying darts. Tried them now and perfect the first time round! 😊Thank you so much

Yay! Thank you for explaining this slowly!!!
You're so welcome!
massive thanks!!!!
Thanks for this! I understand darts in theory but was feeling overfaced by the 2D illustration in my textbook.
This is so helpful, thank you!!
Super duper helpful!!
The hibiscus robe pattern from mood doesn’t have dart marks on it, but the description says to sew darts into the fabric. I’m a noob and I don’t know where I should sew the darts without it being marked on the pattern!
Hm.. how odd.. I would look at some other similar robes to get a good idea of the general placement and use pins or clips to do some trial and error. Just make sure they are symmetrical and try it on to see if you like where the darts fall. They are meant to make the garment more flattering and shapely, so in theory, the exact placement of them would be a little different depending on your body shape. You can do it! And it is going to look amazing when you are done! Good luck!!!
@@onlinefabricstore thank you so much for saying that!
thank you !
thank you! super helpful.
Is the material marked in right side of fabric or inside no mention of it my pattern has me marking on the right side
Thanks! This is the best!
No, it is more sturdier to machine sew 2 darts, 1 on each side, not in the middle. It is also easier because you don't have to make a cut and lift up the loop and do all that extra work... It is so much better. I'm a girl of the seventies and we did it all the time.
Perfect video. Thank you soo much
Glad you liked it!
Ok I guess it was example material which is why I didn't understand the pattern was for Pants but I still don't get everything. I see in many shirts how the point or tip of the dart seems to look odd alot. The stitching in the material seems to either not go all the way making it look like a hole at the dart tip or it just looks weird but now I'm guessing it's because the sewer didn't taper off all the way I think.
This feels like a dumb question, but once you sew the dart and press it to one side, isn't there an excess of material at the bust? Do you trim this or leave it as is?
Love how detailed you are! 😊
My pattern just says “lay surplus down and iron” which way should I iron?
Ofs can yall make patterns for young girls on how to make dresses please like from 8/10 yrs. Please please
Here after that stupid connections category on 3/8/24!
How wide should the legs be apart in inches
It depends on your garment!
Why don't you backstitch?
It would make the dart tip too bulky, if I'm not mistaken. That's why she tied it off instead :)
I made the back of a shiet a little too big around the shoulders how to I fix that
You could absolutely use darts!
I've seen you're comment on another sewing video lol😂
Can you pls help me sew 7 dart
that’s a nice dress

Please talk about the measurement...like the nipple to nipple...
Not to be rude at all but I didn't understand anything. I'm trying to find videos to learn to sew and I don't understand the terminology, punch hole or what leg meant. I guess it meant pant leg but unclear. I heard dart tip and that punch hole would let me know when the dart tips coming but I still don't get at all what a punch hole is (do I punch a hole in the paper) and why do I need a dart on a pant leg if that's what it meant.
I think legs are the wider side of the dart and the punch hole is the bit your going to have to strengthen with a double stitch before reaching the tip of the dart , hope this helps 🙏🏻
going too fast but ty
Thank you!
You're welcome!
