Air1 Helicopter Spots Suspects after Commercial Alarm in Whitby

  • The DRPS helicopter was instrumental in the arrest of two suspects after a break and enter at a bank in Whitby.
    On Saturday, May 6, 2017, at approximately 11:15 p.m., officers from Central West Division responded to a commercial alarm at the Scotia Bank on Victoria Street in Whitby. Air1 was in the area and identified the suspect vehicle being driven away from the bank. Information was relayed to responding officers and the vehicle was located. The suspect vehicle refused to stop for police, but was located abandoned nearby. Air1 was able to maintain constant surveillance and relayed the direction of the suspects who fled on foot from the abandoned vehicle. Uniformed officers arrested one suspect and a K-9 officer was able to track the outstanding suspect nearby.
    A 41-year-old male of Beattie Avenue in London and a 51-year-old male of Melbourne Road in Melbourne, Ontario, face a combined 21 charges, including: Break and Enter with Intent; Mischief Over $5,000; Disguise with Intent; Possession of Break-in Tools and Disguise with Intent . Both were held for bail hearings.
