      surf punk now says "i'd like to be their girlfriend", which is the line "i'd like to be their boyfriend" in the US version, making an extra bi minor character instead of there only being the stoner chick who had in one US performance pointed to herself when saying the "Homehomehomo" part. Guess they just took two minor characters and smushed them together to give the surf punk something to do while waiting to swing. Also in beautiful US the line "ugh" "oh" "oh,sorry", the guy knocks into veronica, whereas in the uk its "move" "sorry" and its a girl telling her to get out the way instead. Also surfer punk now says "why did i wear this" which started as a line by a guy in the west end, but in the us version its "why did i hit him". Also in the big bud bean scene the tv part has changed in the west end one to ms flemmings doing an interview with duke being a pain, instead of duke doing an interview to multiple networks.

    Something I find interesting - about 7 years ago I played Veronica in the high school version of Heathers, before the West End version and after Off-Broadway. Most of these changes are actually straight out of the high school edition! I assumed they were just made to make the HS version more PG but almost all of them ended up in the West End version. All of the dialogue changes you mentioned were in our version, as was You’re Welcome. Seems like it was maybe used as a test run of new changes pre-West End.

      @EllieTalksTheatre  Před rokem +9

      That's super interesting! I knew the high school version pre-dated the London version and obviously, You're Welcome made its way in but I didn't know that a lot of the dialogue made its way over too!

    The only reason I think duke keeps the green socks after NSUA is because it shows how she’s transitioned to red heather however she will always be known for being the green Heather or something and despite her looking all powerful she’ll never be like Chandler OR they just really couldn’t be arsed getting different colored socks

    • @EllieTalksTheatre
      @EllieTalksTheatre  Před rokem +2

      My assumption is that they don't change the socks due to it not being able to be done in the quick change and to make the change back into the green for the bows easier.
      It is just quite funny to me, I cannot watch the show without noticing it lol. Give my girl the red socks and shoes she deserves.

      Totally agree with that take, I think it adds an extra layer to the storyline, Duke will always be the girl that was told to "Shut up" during most of her high school years. And I think if she HAD been wearing all red just like Chandler, she wouldn't take Veronica's hand at the end in Seventeen (reprise). But that's just my opinion

    Firstly, with the shirt and the makeup, you're giving off very strong Beetlejuice vibes (in a good way). Idk if that's intentional or not but it's amazing. Secondly, you're iconic and spectacular and this is a great video :)

    Since I've only seen the Roku channel pro-shot, I don't really have an opinion on the Off-Broadway version.
    I will say however that your description of the interactions between JD and his dad in the Off-Broadway version is a lot more reminiscent of the film.

    • @EllieTalksTheatre
      @EllieTalksTheatre  Před rokem +3

      You're right but the scene was lengthened quite a bit for the musical. I think the extra time spent in the scene made it feel weird and didn't really comment much on JD and his father's relationship as much as the new UK/proshot version does.

    6:35 whatever its worth, that line was originally in the movie. It wouldnt suprise me if a lot of these lines got changed just because they decided to go with a better script over using the lines from the film.

    One thing that annoys me about the west end is that they changed when the quick changes happens in never shut up again. I much prefer the placement of it originally. Ive also noticed after seeing it at the other palace 2 weeks ago that theyve changed some of the dialogue again. I cant remember specifically what is said now but i know for sure one of them is that first line Kurt says to Martha about needing more protein (thats now something else). Its like everytime i see it i notice they changed something in the script or staging 😂 i also had to edit this because i just remembered that JD use to be in shine a light at the original The Other Palace run in 2018, but they replaced him with Martha. I can only assume this is because Jamies Muscato couldnt stop smiling ang cracking up at having to do it, in west end live clips you can see him trying his best to not laugh and also causing other cast memebers to crack up aswell 😂

      I agree with your point on "Never Shut Up Again", I preferred the quick change to be at the "Crack! Boom!" part. Also I wish they kept the old dialogue before the song. But I think the only things they should still keep is McNamara feeling bad for Veronica and isn’t dancing as much or praising Duke and also keep the part where Duke rips Veronica's diary and McNamara helping Veronica.

    I could be wrong, but I believe when Barrett's Veronica kissed Duke in beautiful reprise in the off Broadway ver it was a reference to the movie as Veronica kissed Duke on the cheek after taking the scrunchies in the film

    Listen. I value your opinion it’s cool to see. However, The original version was so clear, I have no idea why they got rid of blue, kindergarten boyfriend is by far the worst song of both versions, and it just makes me really uncomfortable for some reason

    • @LukeBridger
      @LukeBridger Před 5 měsíci +2

      They explained why Blue was cut. The song was very odd and made people uncomfortable. Giving Veronica a chance to get one over on them while they're trying to sexually assault her is a lot better than a slightly catchy song about testicles, sexual assault and having Veronica's 2 friends stand there and watch while it happens

    • @4wolvenpeople
      @4wolvenpeople Před rokem

      @@EllieTalksTheatre I think they might be switching lines around as the youtube one has the stoner singing about heather being the horse she never got whereas the one at the other palace right now is the young republicanette, though is hard to work out which minor character is what as google says guys are playing both the cops in other palace, but today one of the cops was definitely a woman, so maybe they are on all their backups today.

  • @heatherchandlersscrunchie

    i still don’t understand what “it must be really hard for you to pronounce” means like what does that even mean they’re literally speaking normally😭😭😭

    honestly i think the west end show additions are the best things that could have happened to the show- “I Say No,” “You’re Welcome,” “Never Shut Up Again” are INCREDIBLE
    tbh i do prefer the og recording though because of barrett etc but the new songs are insane!!
    anyways west end >> broadway

  • @LukeBridger
    @LukeBridger Před 5 měsíci

    I've said this once and I'll say it again, just because there is a new version of something you like, doesn't mean the old one is lost forever. There are so many people (like you referenced at the end) who hate the WE version bc of the absolute TINY details in dialogue being changed slightly. There was so much discourse that the WE version "ruined" Heather's and almost all of them referenced "You're Welcome" and JDs "I bet its really hard for you to pronounce" line... like are we kidding? It's so unserious.
    I like the WE version a lot more, the changes make sense, the new songs are bangers, the staging is very well done. I haven't even fully finished the bootleg of the Off-Bway version, some scenes just don't feel right and I can't get into them, but I've seen the Roku proshot like 30 times since I found out about it a couple weeks ago.
    The castings have been amazing, Maddi Firth holds the title of longest running Chandler, Ailsa is a fantastic Veronica (right amount of goof, seriousness and talent), I didn't LOVE Simons JD, mostly during "Meant to be Yours", especially the "bam bam bam" part 😭 but he was still pretty good. Teleri is an ICONIC Heather Mac, Vivian slays "NSUA" so hard etc. There are so many things to love about it but fans of the original production DESPISE it for really, no reason.
    The shows been off now for a little bit, and people are still hating on the production that had 5 runs including a proshot as "inferior" its ridiculous

    • @LukeBridger
      @LukeBridger Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@iNoah22No names have been disclosed but Ryan (Original JD) was either made extremely uncomfortable or fully SA'd by another male cast member. He's spoken about it a couple times on CZcams. I'm not sure if that's what they're referencing 100% but that definitely didn't help
