I love that Zverev's promise that Team World wasn't going to win more than 1 point in this event came true.
This time no one from the big 3 took part and yet team world received a worse thrashing at the hands of Team Europe. Zverev and the others seemed to be on a mission to make a statement in this event.

I mean, I love Kyrgios, but I think he's already distancing himself from Tennis. I still watch videos of Kyrgios from 2-3 years ago when he looked leaner, meaner and just seemed to be having fun. Perhaps this pandemic has shifted his perspective. And I think he is happy competing in online games now.
As a tennis fan, I don't like it. I want to see Kyrgios at his absolute best because as a tennis fan that makes for good tennis and I love that.
As a fan of Kyrgios? I think he needs to do what's good for him. The idea of putting in the work day in and day out when your heart isn't in the game anymore? That just seems unhealthy. I think he should do what's best for him and ignore the haters.
In an ideal (tennis) world, he would be competing hard, but hey, you do you Kyrgios! Love what you have given to Tennis already. Wish you could've stuck around a few more years and maybe won a slam or two.
Hope to see you competing hard in online competitions!

While I get what you mean, Kyrgios has 8mil in prize money and Tiafoe at 4mil and Sock at 10mil. So they’re fine, they play how they play and tennis ultimately needs them because like it or not that’s where the energy of tennis is right now. The top players play boring tennis, yes they’re efficient and great but the magic is lacking - why I think things like pickle ball has picked up in popularity (and tennis is decreasing in tandem).

How long has this event been a thing? I don't think the players even want to be here tbh. I can see them getting pumped up for Davis Cup because it is an opportunity to compete for their home country, but Laver Cup is just stupid. Europe is a colossal continent where nearly all the top players are from whereas Asia and Africa does not produce hardly any noteworthy tennis talents. South America was once phenominal but only because of Argentina and it's slim pickings these days now that all the Argentine greats have mostly all retired. That basically just leaves North America and Australia which hasn't had a grand slam caliber player since Sampras,Agassi, Roddick and Hewitt. They are better off just following the the new NBA Allstar format and just let the #1 and #2 ranked players be team captains and choose their own roster. That would make for a much more interesting tournament.

If you take for example football or basketball it would be very different. Same with many other Olympic sports. Europe is actually a small continent in terms of size and population. It is just more developed and more people here play tennis because of the culture. It's just how it is. South America likes football. USA likes basketball and rugby. Europe likes tennis. It doesn't mean that the rest of the world has no chance to beat them. It just happens that in this period of time there are better European ATP players in comparison with the others. If there was Laver Cup for WTA then Team World has good chances to win.
