Is Hashimoto's Fatal? (The Answer May Surprise You)

  • Is Hashimoto's considered a fatal disease? Technically, yes, but the reality is that most people will not die directly from Hashimoto's. In order for this to happen you must neglect your health and thyroid for decades which is very unlikely to happen in developed countries like the United States.
But does that mean you are free from risk if you have Hashimoto's? Not at all. We know from twin studies that patients with hypothyroidism have a 50% increased risk of mortality compared to the average population and we also know that Hashimoto's leads to hypothyroidism so this risk is likely relevant to patients with autoimmune thyroid disease as well.
But what causes this risk? It's not from the thyroid itself but from comorbidities that are associated with hypothyroidism.
    These conditions include:
    1. An increase in cancer risk.
    2. An increase in cardiovascular disease.
    3. And an increased risk of obesity which leads to metabolic syndrome, diabetes, hypertension, stroke, and insulin resistance.
This may sound daunting but there's some really good news here:
You don't have to accept this risk because you can completely bring your risk back to normal by optimizing thyroid function. You can do this either by taking thyroid medication or by using natural therapies.

Could you do a video on LDN for juvenile arthritis?? My daughter was diagnosed with arthritis at 14 but also has hashimotos. She takes T3/T4 combo so numbers are under control. Anyway.... For her arthritis she's on Hydroxychloroquine and it's fine but I don't think it helps with her hashimotos symptoms. I'm wondering if LDN would also help with the arthritis and maybe she can switch?
What are your thoughts on that matter? I've done some research and I guess people use LDN but there's just not enough info to say for sure🤷

Dr. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease attacking your thyroid gland mistakenly by your own immune system. This is i think a better explanation as far as hashimotos issue. Fix first your immune system disorder and hypothyroidism will be gone.

I had Hashimoto's thyroiditis, over 8 years with specialists and only reduced tablets to three. I came across Vertera health line based on seaweed and just one tin in less than a month cured me once and for all. If you have any thyroid problem reach out. Don't suffer any more.

I have hashis. My TSH is at. 5.75 my Endo says it is just slightly high and has me taking an extra half a pill once a week. I get that it isn't far out of range, but i can not seem to make him understand that I do not feel good unless I am in they mid range of the normal range. I am thinking it might be time to face the fact that I might need a new Endo or have my PCP take over.

Can ur T2 supplement increase T4 to T3 conversion to such a degree that I need to decrease my NDT dose? 🤨🤔 Feeling a bit hyper & dropped 4lbs in 2 weeks. New to NDT by 2 months now, so it may be just getting adjusted to it? Currently taking NP thyroid 45mg bid. 😊 So much better than levothyroxine, it was horrible!!

How much Carbs do you eat? I’m 62, non-drinker, non-smoker, and 5 years ago I was diagnosed with a severe fatty liver with Fibrosis. I was eating tons of pasta & bread every night. I cut out all pasta, breads, rice, wheat products, white potatoes (I do eat sweet potatoes), & any other starches. I also cut out all sugar, & honey. I lost 150lbs - from 320lbs to 170lbs, and take milk thistle & choline every day. I’ve reversed my fatty liver.

Oh, WOW!! I am literally in the same exact boat as you @Christine Pascual!! Was diagnosed with HASHIMOTO'S 27 years ago at the age of 18 after my son was born. Knew something wasn't right. 4 days after he was born, I literally could not get myself out of bed to get to his crib to feed him when he would wake to eat. I actually felt like I was dying. Had no energy to even sit up. Doctors said while in labor, my body attacked my thyroid & killed it. My PCP has been trying to get it within "normal" range ever since. They refuse to refer me to a thyroid specialist, so I've never had the chance to be properly treated because I have an HMO for insurance & can't go see anyone without a referral from my PCP. So she just keeps throwing unithroid that doesn't work at me. I would give anything to see a thyroid or HASHIMOTO'S specialist and to finally feel energy again & be able to lose all of this weight that I've gained (even though I don't eat)!! And to be able to be a normal mom that can get a good night's sleep & be able to function for my little one!! Sorry...I just found this doctor & In learning so much watching his videos and feel like I've been cheated out of my life for the last 27 years. But yes, I have the same thing going on as you. I have to have an MRPC scan done every 3 months for another health concern (cyst on the head of my pancreas), and every time the report mentions my fatty liver/ stage 1 cirrhosis of the liver. And it scares the heck out of me!! I've also had gallstones for the last 9 months mentioned in every report, but my PCP keeps telling me they're nothing to worry about. The last time I checked...a gallbladder full of gallstones wasn't a good thing. Especially when I've been having the worst pains for over a year. I have been trying to change my PCP but no one is taking on new patients. One of the major downfalls of living in a city like Boston!!
