The Inquisition is one of the most mysterious, misunderstood, and interesting factions within the entirety of Warhammer 40k. do them justice and cover everything, so in today's deep dive we are going to focus specifically on inquisitors themselves and their relationship to the Imperium of man with a focus on the differences between radicals and Puritans. One of which does everything by the book and refuses to compromise with heretics, whereas the other is willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish their mission even if it comes at the cost of their very soul!

Dude inquisitors are just doom slayers in power armor

_"The Inquisition is a hundred different schools of thought, divided by a single goal."_
- *Lord Inquisitor Nihilus*
In the ceaseless and vast cosmic sea, where the stars are but distant candles flickering against the encroaching shroud of darkness, there exists an order as enigmatic as it is omnipotent-the Inquisition. A shadow empire woven into the very sinews of reality, this guardian phalanx wields secrecy as a blade, silence as armor. It exists beyond the confines of the known and the charted, a whispered legend in the grandiose halls of the Imperium of Man.
Indeed, amidst the spiraling galaxies, the Inquisition is the ghost hand that steers the fate of humanity, clutching at the slender threads of existence, defiant against the encroaching chaos. Like a mythical Pantheon, its Inquisitors descend upon the mundane plane as avatars of judgement, their gaze piercing through the veil of heresy and malevolence that seeks to strangle the light of the God-Emperor's realm.
Picture them as the unblinking sentinels at the gates of dawn, silhouetted against the inferno of battle and treachery. They are the arbiters of an unending night, relentless in their quest to excise the cancerous blight of heresy, the schizophrenic dance of mutants, and the profane scheme of traitors. Theirs is a crusade whispered in the cold void between stars, fought in the depths of the soul and the edges of sanity. To cross an Inquisitor is to draw a lance against the very tide of existence-in their eyes flicker the embers of infinite battles, won and yet to be fought.
An Inquisitor is a wraith, a specter cloaked in the raiment of dooms. Each step they tread upon the scorched earth of a heretic world resonates with the gravitas of destinies undone and futures razored from the skein of time. With every secret torn from the shadows, they forge the silent thunder that reverberates through the hearts of man and alien alike.
Their writ runs on the parchment of empires, penned in the ichor of monstrosities felled. They stand as the vanguard against the abyss, against terrors that gnaw at the fringes of reality-against the Tyranids' ravening maw, the Necrons' undying scorn, the Orks' primal savagery, and the Drukhari's cruel thirst.
The Inquisition's power is absolute, for their mandate emanates from the inscrutable will of the God-Emperor. Theirs is the silence that roars, the stare that blinds, the word that rends and the judgement that is irrevocable. They are the unseen hand, the unheralded shepherd of the myriad souls in the Imperium, guarding mankind against the aeonic storm that rages beyond the fragile bastion of civilization.
Beneath the banner of the Inquisition, reality itself bends, for they are the mind and the will of the Imperium-its mightiest weapon against the dark. In their wake, they leave the definitive silence of a task completed, an order restored, and an Eternal War fought in the shadows, relenting only for the death of stars and the birth of legends.
Soo, do we call the inquisition or not
Which one?😅
The only answer allowed to this is 'yes'.
@@the_real_inquisitor um
No
this situation is literally the Spiderman pointing meme but in this case trillions of human lives &the continual survival of humanity are at stake!
@@the_real_inquisitoruhh which one did we call again
The fact that in the game chaos gate an inquisitor is allowed to hijack a whole grey knight vessel without permission from the chapter master, in order to facilitate her research, and isnt swiftly flushed out an airlock says a lot about their influence.
read the emperor's gift. they tend to work pretty close with the inquisition. Despite the inquisition having their own marines. the red hunters. I believe the early lore had them working closely with the black templars. The grey knights want to fight demons mostly so it makes sense. It actually shows them loyal to a fault and being almost completely naive to anything but the strictest term of duty.
@@Lazrael32 yeah, but there are times that they become their lapdogs.
Remember the months of shame?
The Grey Knights are to the Ordo Malleus as the Deathwatch are to the Ordo Xenos, so it makes some sense.

Inquisitors are so cool
And it's crazy how much power they hold in the imperium
Me"Meh...I have seen individuals with way more power in the Imperium" the inquisition"you liar"! Me"come on ya pansy's"!
Imagine having the political power, reach of influence and authority to command an entire system of star, not a state nor country or even continent, the literal STAR SYSTEM. Now in this age of humanity, it’s highly likely that humans would have occupied and colonized multiple worlds in their own home system, so just imagine how many humans there are, especially if it is a bunch of hive worlds, then perhaps it could be close to one third of a trillion humans?
For one man to hold such authority over that much numbers, and that is just the peaking tip of the iceberg. Despite that, even after all of that, the Imperium doesn’t even bat an eye over the destruction of those billions of souls, the fact that they gave the Inquisition absolute freedom to do any heretical-cleansing as they see fit, without worrying the risk of an Inquisitor massacring all of them on a whim, proves that the Imperium probably find the lesser human equivalent to that of another piece of disposable meat waste. It even baffles me, that canonically the Inquisition have authorities over the Astartes Chapter Master themselves, well in a technical and theoretical way at least, although functionally and logically they wouldn’t actually act like they own the Astartes or they would probably end up dead or something 😂 like that one time during the “campaign” of The Month of Shame where a bunch of Inquisitors get punked on by the entire chapter of Space Wolves and almost sparked another civil war against them because of it

I don't know why he is in the Ordo Xenos as he deals more with heretics and daemons in his stories than aliens. @@CF-or3ci lolol! somebody studied slaanesh way too much
you said in the intro that "...compassion binds humanity to indescribable horrors..." and that is the most terrifying thing about 40k for me. trying to be a decent person can lead you to becoming a monster and that the only way to ensure that never comes to pass is to be a monster that opposes those other monsters.
It is worth mentioning that the Calixian Conclave of the Inquisition has (or rather, had) a rather unique state of matters in regards to the Radical/Puritan divide: The leaders of that Conclave enforced a equilibrium of power where no faction was permitted to rise above the others. This was meant to ensure that every philosophy, method and skillset would be represented in a time of need, as that sector was rapidly descending to madness. However, the factions were not particularly pleased working with their ideological opponents, and many groups were actively undermining one another. This had, by the latest point of that Sector's lore, escalated to the brink of an Inquisitorial civil war.
Ironically, this enforced balance was both the greatest asset of the Conclave and its bane. With such disparate groups forced to interact constantly, their hatred of one another only grew as time passed and each group's failings accumulated over the years. In fact, some groups have already prepared themselves to either overtake or eradicate the rest of the Conclave. This volatile state of affairs was, of course, not helped by the enemies of the Imperium practically running circles around its supposedly finest agents. From unexplained deaths of several notable Inquisitors to operations gone awry on a massive scale and in the most improbable of ways, the situation had only gotten worse as the years passed by. Only by the weight of their number and the specialized skillsets born of their varied philosophies were keeping the conclave standing.
This powder keg of hostilities paired with the Conclave's inability to handle the matter without every part that made up its whole was primed to detonate in the year 815.M41, a little less than two centuries before Abaddon's 13th Black Crusade finally broke through the Cadian Gate. No new lore is likely to come regarding the Calixis Sector's complex state of affairs, as the lore was written by a separate company (even if they were doing it in cooperation with Games Workshop). Nowadays, the sector is nothing more than a point on the galactic map that Games Workshop has surprisingly kept including in said maps almost without fail for the last couple of editions: References to it are rare, and even rarer are acknowledgements of the sector's affairs.
Sounds like something interesting and terrible happened there.

It's pretty funny how one of those aforementioned heretical texts is a first edition signed copy of the Lecticio Divinitatus, the book that became the cornerstone of Imperial faith.
The Inquisition REALLY does not want anyone to know that it was written by Lorgar.
That is very easy to explain. Most people in the imperium don't know about the 20 primarchs, they think it has always been 9 primarchs and Horus was just spawned out of hell. Wouldn't want anyone to believe that the emperor wasn't perfect and always in control.
@@jasperzanovich2504Dark Imperium really showed me how FUCKED the Imperium is. like everyone who started the original religion KNEW Horus and the other traitors were sons of the Emperor but like you said. Can't have anyone thinking the Emperor and his sons aren't perfect

@@ellis7622 No, Weshammer is obviously talking about the Spanish inquisition. Did you even watch the video??
Because clearly the Spanish Inquisition had a gigantic space war that lasted for 10,000 years against the Devil with the help of Jesus and the Catholic Church that we know absolutely fuck all about and if it hadn't been for King Arthur and Jack Sparrow teaming up together to take on Pumpkinhead and the Flaming fist then we might not have ever been able to check out library books for longer than 36 minutes.... does that about sum it up? I don't know how you do it man. You make the best Warhammer lore videos on CZcams, and they just keep coming!
I don't know if you every listened to the all guardsmen party voiced by storyforge here on CZcams but it makes the inquisition scary and a bit inscrutable from a boots on the ground perspective. Thanks for clearing a lot of that up for me!
The Inquisitors are in practice only really accountable to each other. One of the things they investigate is other inquisitors, sometimes pulling together large of many Inquisitors to act as judges and juries. Of course a guilty inquisitor will have a lot of resources and contacts they can use to go into hiding. Sometimes such accusations can result in wars between factions, such wars are usually done in secret but sometimes they just requisition entire militaries to fight other inquisitors who have also requisitioned entire militaries. If these wars become too intense, orders will come in from Holy Terra to just kill all of the inquisitors involved.
Thanks for so much info! I would say the inquisitor in Death of Antagonis is an amazing example how an inquistitor trying to route out humanities enemies end up being the ones who fall in pursuit of it. It was really interesting watching people slip and fall while trying to be loyal to the god emperor. Another interesting set of inquisitors are the ones who seek out Ephrael Stern the heretic saint. They tend to begin to worship her, even though they start by persecuting her. One actually fled her after seeking her out because he knew if he stayed he'd become her puppet instead her being his.

Lucius should have at least some kind of weakness. His weakness was the thing that made him interesting.
Because you could still root for his opponents. Now, he's just another overpowered unkillable munchkin.
There used to be a limit to his ability to resurrect. But along this line of logic, even if a Marine with a heart of stone killed him, the servitor that assembled his power sword may get possessed.
Or even the miner that mined the ore for the metal. It's just no fun.

You mention the inquisition and the 1st thing that springs to mind is the Monty Python sketches. Delve deep in their lore and you realise that they would make good protagonists for novels especially the radicals who are balancing the line between falling into chaos and using it to destroy it.

The Inquisition what a show, the Inquisition here we go.
Side note I bet one of those archives has forbidden directions on how to build a device that rickrolls the warp.
One of the big ironies of 40k is that the reason the absolute power of the Inquisition is not in and of itself corrupting is seemingly precisely because the Imperium and the setting in general are so horrible. If the people of the Imperium were less obedient to authority Inquisitors might be forced to serve the interests of those who would challenge them in order to maintain their power; if the external threats to humanity were less extreme many Inquisitors may lose sight of their purpose and choose to serve their own. These kinds of ideal conditions are unattainable in our reality so it's especially jarring to see it work in another
