@Eric Estrada i kinda lost interest in tennis these days. i loved it during this period, it was the golden age of tennis with so many charismatic players and epic matches that i honestly don't think will ever be matched again. hewitt, roddick, safin, federer, agassi and sampras still playing great towards the end of their careers, and several others.
i watched a few matches recently with a friend and it just didn't excite me the way it did back when i was really into it. first tournament i ever watched was the french open, i think in 2000, maybe 99, and after that i was hooked and watched every major for the next 8-10 years, not sure exactly how many years, but i gradually began to lose interest when what i consider the golden age of tennis came to an end.

Looking forward to when the next Titan shows up in tennis. Alcatraz shows signs but still no.
Not sure if even the most seasoned players and spectators fully grasp the level of talent Federer displayed especially with the one handed backhand.
Sampras and Becker are close, we haven’t seen anything close to Feds in decades. Dimitrov again showed signs but no.

I think Marat Safin problem was that he took too much time against players who were great but no in his class. Because if you see Marat he is the most devastating offensive baseliners to ever play the sport. He can hit the ball huge from both wings . A decent Kick Serve and sumblime 1st Serve.
If you look at his tactics he should have attacked Andy's backhand . Which was not in the same level with players like Safin Nalbandian Davydenko etc.
Please note this was only Andy's comparison with Marat . he is a great player no doubt.

yeah, during this time he was possibly the strongest player ever mentally. the following year he beat federer and hewitt back to back and in the hewitt match he was down a set and a break and it looked as though hewitt was gonna run right through him, but safin stayed focused and turned it around. in the federer match he pulled off a miraculous point to save a match point. i can't remember if it was the federer match, but in one match i'm pretty sure he saved 3 match points in a row in a tie break, i think 2 of those points on the opponent's serve. i don't think any other player in the world could have pulled all of that off.

I think a lot of it was by choice; the game started getting played with a ton of spin and Roddick decided that it was best for him to do the same. Unfortunately his game wasn't really built for more topspin shots and longer rallies so he sort of fell by the wayside as time went on.

Um. My opinion of roddick and safin changed over the years; i thought roddick was underrated and safin was overrated.
I came to the conclusion that anyone can beat Federer, Sampras, Djokovic and Agassi in grand slams is a real champ.
Roddick was playing a faaaaar superior talent, even if safin was coming off a massive injury and long matches. Form is temporary, class is permanent.
Roddick supposedly untalented is going head to head on his 3rd best slam against a top talent in safin.
At the end of the day, roddick has the better serve and forehand. Safin was far better technically in every other department, and safin had a great serve and a very good forehand.
I don't think i could compare safin with any sportsman i have seen. Maybe ronaldinho??

Distorted aspect ratio, sound offset by a large fraction of a second... the match gets a like but the video a down.
