Oh I love these homemade mousetraps!!!!! Awesome craftsmanship, Shawn, I’ve never seen a mousetrap that can be set easily like that, but still be tripped by a feather! Amazing. Keep up the great work, we all love your videos so much!
I thought it was a guillotine from the thumbnail LOL! Old mechanisms like this always impress the hell out of me. They are so old, so simple, yet so effective. Also loved when you stuck your finger in it. Sounds like it took you by surprise!
I made one and it works GREAT. The way the forces act on the trigger it is just naturally very sensitive and it is also easy to adjust by tilting the prop stick or moving it's string hole. It has been out-catching all the snap traps at my work place. I altered mine by sawing a groove in the top and bottom pieces so the horizontal trigger stick doesn't cause a space between the "kill-boards". The second mouse I caught was not killed, just badly cramped up because there was too much space left by the trigger.
This is beautiful work sir!!! You just nailed it with the transition from modern to vintage mousetrap designs in your videos. A lovely blend of new and old. Quite clever designs form years past. Keep up the good work, this just never gets old!
THX for mentioning the Merode Altarpiece. The right-hand panel of the Merode Altarpiece, attributed to Robert Campin, painted sometime in the 1420's, now on display at the Met Cloisters in New York City. He is shown as a carpenter, building a mousetrap: a reference to the cross. Quoting St Augustine: "The cross of the Lord became a trap for the Devil; the death of the Lord was the food by which he was ensnared."
The best traps seem to be buckets with something to fall off into them. They are simple, and they catch LOTS of mice. These traps catch one mouse and then they have to be reset.
"I'll show you just how sensitive this is, it works *so* well." Me thinking: Pfffft. Lets see it triggered with a feather. *One minute later* ... Well, I'll be damned.
Wow, awesome torsion mechanism... looks like it would scale to larger versions, but may need some sort of guard to prevent unintended targets sicking their head in
You have to remember that 600 years ago, rats and mice not only ate your food, but also carried numerous diseases. It comes as no surprise to me that people back then could design and build truly effective traps. This particular trap is the best one I've seen!
I really love your trap vids. The ones you make are great. My sister needed a rat trap and I was able to recommend your channel. Thanks. Don't give in to the snowflakes.
Who knew that mousetrapping could be so interesting? Reminds me of an interesting book I read a few years ago: “Tales of a Rat Hunting Man”- reprinted by Lyons Press, Steve Bodio, editor. Focuses on terriers, ferrets, and the rat hunting aficionados of late 19th century England.
Love it when the trap went off his buddy pops hid head up like dam where did he go , you can even see the mouse thinking now that's a cool vanishing trick cause I can't see him no more you can come out now.
Hey, SW. After I watched your 'Clip Board' office supply Mouse Trap I realized an old campus style bicycle rack would also work. It has the same long coil spring moving a wire hoop.
Why is it channel so entertaining I swear I was just looking for a good rat trap for rats duh two weeks ago and I delt with that rat and I keep on coming back just for the entertainment
I don't live next to a large field or woods, and I don't really have an interest in killing mice for the sake of killing mice... but I just binged like half a dozen of these videos. Well done, sir.
Shawn, I think you should do a battle of the traps. Set multiple traps up on the same night with cameras on them all in a dense mouse area. See which one gets the most!
This painting was originally owned by the Mérode family. I had the honor to stay in one of many castles of theirs across Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. The Mérode family is a very old and important nobel family in west europe's history. Their history dates back to the Holy Roman Empire time.
You should make some videos showing how to build some of these antique mouse traps... I'm sure most of your community would be interested and it might help with revenue, too
I am absolutely fascinated by your work, I would like to build some of your traps. Also I would like to see a feature on your motion camera and light set-up.Thank you for your work.
Maybe try doing a guillotine-style pike/needle trap. There'd be a hole where the mouse goes into and at the end would be the bait. The bait would hang from a rope, and when pulled a it would release a trigger to let a heavy metal pike or needle fall on the mouse's back. It would be impaled and, if the pike was stable enough, even sever the spine. I've not seen a trap like that in action before, so it'd be cool to see you build and test it.
Jotaro Kujo oh just make one with money bait. Make sure instead of wood make it a guillotine style. Once they insert their arm the trigger will activate .cutting the their arm off. Leaving them screaming in agony. But don't worry they're gonna die from blood loss , or if they somehow survived you can blame them for thieving making them pay you in court. It's a win-win situation.
What I like about this paticular trap is that it doesn't use steel wire. Where a medieval peasant would find steel wire back in 15-16 century? Also it's funny that they used torsion for a mousetrap but not siege engines.
i still say the best is the rolling log trap catches and kills the most and dont have to touch them just dump the water in the yard and put dirt on top of the mice!
The Mascalls Mill trap is my favorite by far Easy to make, portable, Can catch many mice / rats at once ! Many traps can only trap 1 at a time and you have to "reset" the trap Im gonna Sub to your channel but dont tell my Ex Womon ok lol Thanks for shareing !

I have to say, I am really impressed with how intricate these old mouse traps are!
There is only one possible explanation:
Aliens.
It was before they figured out how to make them simpler.
Agreed
Timothy Reaper agreed
Timothy Reaper: MY thoughts exactly.
Oh God I though it was a guillotine in the thumbnail
That's why I clicked faster than I already do.
Not disappointed.

How do you even still have mice at this point? lol
Kyle Russo he most likely buys them for videos
The Spinner360 he lived in a farm, there's no short supplies of mice and rats in that kind of environment.
There arent any, he uses paid actors!
He let's them out.
@@kyngaddi4770 he lets them out in the wild away from the farm
Oh I love these homemade mousetraps!!!!! Awesome craftsmanship, Shawn, I’ve never seen a mousetrap that can be set easily like that, but still be tripped by a feather! Amazing. Keep up the great work, we all love your videos so much!
"Ahh it got me." Lmfao
Sodium Tetraborate lord this comment is old, but he should've said: Wowwie, it got me.
@@nyanyanyanyan33 wow this comment is old he should’ve said OUCH GOLLY WOLLY

Quintin Menchaca YES
Quintin Menchaca that would be a masacre

but some of them are disposable
"wanna play hide and seek?"
"sure" *goes to trap*
"he'll never find me here" *dies*
"cousin I give UP!" *1 month later* : still nothing
I love seeing these old style mouse traps.
It looks like a seige engine
It looks like it can throw a 90 kg projectile at a 300m distance.
That is an idea for a live, or kind of, live trap. A mouse catapult.
can it fling a mouse into the neighbours barn? lol
Robin John Aranguiz Ahh trebuchet memes
Hell yeah, mouse pancakes.
Shanghai Alice Then you can sail it across the yard like a frisbee!
That's sick
Jordan Rizek Triggered?
terry jenkins
This gave me a _very_ vivid image of a floppy mouse carcass sailing through the air in slo-mo
hahahahahaha
Dude..you have phd in mouse trap history or something?
aditya rachmadi lmao
Hhhh good one

the feather demonstration was a good touch. And the stuff with the painting, this is like an interesting version of the Da Vinci Code.
I really love your trap vids. The ones you make are great. My sister needed a rat trap and I was able to recommend your channel. Thanks. Don't give in to the snowflakes.
Realest
I'm really liking these ancient styles of trap that you are featuring. Very informative and enjoyable.
Mouse trap Monday - Not just about Mousetraps but some Art History too. Very Nice
Why is this the most entertaining series of videos that I have ever seen
you should do it tutorial how to build the mouse traps
Gavin Whitener you can buy a copy on most of the traps he uses.
add spikes to the underside of the slam door.... BOOM!! Goodnight Mice!! LOL
its already dead, it cant get deader
It's a good idea for a bigger cat trap.
put a dollar on the trigger and make a human trap
I wanted write the same thing
Jusb1066 put in one girly boy and it’s a trap
Humans have always been resourceful with what they have. This mouse trap design is no exception to human creativity.
That is an amazingly delicate trigger that you made. Thank you for sharing. I wish nothing but the best to you and your family.
I had an original of one of these traps as a kid. Used it many times. It was thrown in the dump while a renovation was completed and I didn't know.
I pretty sure that the term humane wasn't used 600 years ago
Sure it was, it just didn't apply to mice......or ............ women, LOL!
hell or even men
damn good of you to research about the history of the trap.👍👍👍
Video Playlist for all 12 of Mascall's 427 Year Old Style Mouse Traps: czcams.com/video/wvWD-E-gbkk/video.html
Do u make these to sell cause if u do I would really like to buy a few from ya so just let me know . Thank you .
Love it when the trap went off his buddy pops hid head up like dam where did he go , you can even see the mouse thinking now that's a cool vanishing trick cause I can't see him no more you can come out now.
There's always that one mouse, he's all: "HAAY BOB! HAAAY! BOB! HAAAAAAY! Are you okay man? You gonna eat that?"
Love the videos mate! Glad to see someone from my area of the world making AWESOME videos!
For some reason I really like these videos. Keep it poppin.✌💯
Hey, SW. After I watched your 'Clip Board' office supply Mouse Trap I realized an old campus style bicycle rack would also work. It has the same long coil spring moving a wire hoop.
pretty elaborate trap for a single mouse. It might be more interesting if you used a clear plexiglass top for a more visual smash.
2:16 's "ah it got me" had me laughing so hard 😂😂
When I came upon one of your videos I binge watch. It's so fascinating
Sorry I'm late guys! You did a great job with this one Shawn. I'm super satisfied.
Why is it channel so entertaining I swear I was just looking for a good rat trap for rats duh two weeks ago and I delt with that rat and I keep on coming back just for the entertainment
I like the old trap series. Very cool con-TRAP-tions.
Shawn, I am so happy I stumbled across Your Channel. You have the most interesting and informative videos out there. Thank You for all You do 🤠
Shawn, I think a medium shade of wood stain would make the trap more attractive. Sand it lightly with 400 grit paper and apply the stain.
Mice with interior design degrees are not his demographic...
Stain it with the blood of your enemies!
Some nice stencil designs by Martha . You can't keep mice away.
I don't live next to a large field or woods, and I don't really have an interest in killing mice for the sake of killing mice... but I just binged like half a dozen of these videos. Well done, sir.
This series makes me almost throw up but I like watching it for some reason and I cannot stop watching
Shawn, I think you should do a battle of the traps. Set multiple traps up on the same night with cameras on them all in a dense mouse area. See which one gets the most!
I've always wanted a mouse-skin carpet for my victorian-era doll house. Now I know what needs to be done to get one.

why do i like watching these vids?! im making a mouse trap today
I thought the thumbnail was a guillotine. I got way more excited than i should have lol. Still a great vid.
flattened for easy frying
...or to make a mouse pastrami.
Wow that's to cool. Wish i still had my tools to build. This would be a cool build. Have a good week god bless
Beautiful. I'm making one when I get home from work.
We need more videos for Monday
How's with me 🙂
How's with me
You should build a live catch version and test it out. That’s a very neat trap! Thanks for building and sharing the video.
The history is interesting, i still prefer the multi reset traps like the bucket plank.
Plz do more like this. I like the old mouse traps bc they are more complex
The coolest looking trap I have ever seen.
Amazing piece of history. Thanks for sharing
I wonder if Mr. Woods ran out of classic trap designs, these are really cool.
I love your videos they are extremely educating, please continue making them.
Maybe one day, you should build and place all Mouse traps from the past, in your barn. That could be awesome
Your videos are great, just started watching and I'm addicted..
I am absolutely fascinated by your work, I would like to build some of your traps. Also I would like to see a feature on your motion camera and light set-up.Thank you for your work.

We definitely need a how to build video on this one
Im always so entertained by these traps. Theyre so clever
I don't know why but the way he said "ah, it got me." and how he just had his finger caught in the trap made me just laugh way too much.
Very fascinating traps. Happy I discovered this!
Could this trap be made in a bigger size for horses?
Joe Doe yeah definitely possible, I build a gigantic one and caught a elefant in my yard.
I've got a bad velociraptor problem I need taken care of
I have a human problem. They're everywhere
Great job! Keep up the good work my friend.

Also it's funny that they used torsion for a mousetrap but not siege engines.
I'd love to see a tutorial on building this
Loving these handmade antique mouse traps! Funny, there still seems to be no shortage of mice or rats.
I love see is mouse trap update. I would add Springs to have harder killing blow.
Wasn't ready for the mouse pancake right at the beginning
I like it but after seeing some of your other videos, I prefer the traps that catch multiple mice.
It's "Medieval mousetrap Monday"!!
Best traps catch multiple. That1 is very cool! Need to catch a bunch unless you are a cartoon living in an apartment with a visible mouse hole
“Ah it got me” so funny idk why hope you are ok!
i still say the best is the rolling log trap catches and kills the most and dont have to touch them just dump the water in the yard and put dirt on top of the mice!
I learned about that painting in a medieval history class.
cool love the history and the way traps made
Really like this trap! Very unique and cool design too!
Daaaang old mouse traps are so OP
Too OP plz nerf
"Hey Mickey, Where Did You Go?" said the 2nd mouse at the scene
It's an old old oldie but still a goodie
*"Ah, it got me."*
It just seems funny to me how emotionless that sentence was.
