Looks great, it's amazing what can be accomplished when you try, some people just give into their fears when looking at a job they haven't had any experience with, when in all honesty it's only a few hours work, even someone inexperienced can replace the fabric on most headliners over the weekend if they would only face down their fears and uncertainty and try, great video it shows what's possible with a little work and ingenuity.

Glad to see you back in action!.. I hate these head liners. I wish someone would produce utilitarian replacements that look good without the fabric and glue.

At one point someone had started producing replacement headliners but I'm not sure if they're still available or not, it's been a while since I was looking for a headliner, but I've even seen some with speaker mounts in the corners and LED lighting to replace the factory lights, it might be something to look into if your in need of a headliner in the near future.

Nice to see someone else doing a headliner repair. I did 1 and helped with 2 other headliner repairs/ replacements back in 2003-4 on 3 - 1988-92 chevy/gmc pick-ups. The spray-on glues back then didn't work very well, tried with 3-4 on the market at the time. I suceeded with mine, a reg cab, but helping a fellow do his two (both extended cab) and letting him do it his way ended up with him buying 1 replacement headliner and finding the other in the Bone Yard. One of the two repairs seemed to work fine but a couple of weeks after the cloth just fell off. I wish those trucks had a quality form under the cover like your Xterra does. The ones in the trucks, of those years, are more like a pressed-into-shape cardboard.

I drove around for a few years with a bad headliner. I rigged up some "Red Green" types of things, shelf paper and cardboard with dowel rods. lol Finally took the plunge and took the liner out with the foamboard. I found a cheap piece at the fabric store, not even for headliners. Bought spray adhesive and the total was under $20 with the fabric. Grand total was around 2 hours of work. It looks great inside and made me feel better about the car, even though its 20 yrs old.

Thanks heaps for taking the time and effort with this vid! Going to be trying this on my R51 Pathfinder. Seems to be a relatively similar setup. 😁👍
Love that you shot the whole process.

My very first car did the same thing so I just ripped it out and never replaced it and got all the foam out and just left it white did not want to fool with replacing it.

Thanks for such a detailed video. I got to do my 2004 xterra headliner. I am wondering if I could use a wrap instead. The foam in the fabrics tends to dry out which causes the liner to sag again.

Sometimes, you can check these U-Pull-It junkyards and find a good headliner and just replace it cheaper than refinishing. I usually only refinish the headliner if I can't find a good used one..

That was awesome thank you so much. My daughter has a 2002 xterra 4x4 and it needs to help badley... the AC is not working rolling down the windows has caused the headliner to come apart due to the wind from the windows. i love the truck, so i am going to try what you did this weekend. you made it look so easy so i hope i can do as good as a job as you did. Question for you? can i use the headliner only and not put fabric on it and just paint it black? the truck is black is i am afraid that if i can not afford the clothe that maybe i clean it up and paint it jet black without any fabric. what5 do you think?

You have to remove the a,b,c pillars completely and then you remove all the headliner components the headliner will hand with the weather stripping on the doors then with the help of someone else you undo the door entrance weather stripping (for all doors) and take the headliner out (: it’s easy but you ha e to be careful to know where all the clips are located

Did you have to disconnect the negative terminal battery when you removed the headliner? Just in case the airbag accidentally deployed?

Lebron Jordan I didn't see any activation sensors in the ceiling. Why would he need to worry about deploying the airbag. That's like making sure your radio is turned off, before you change a flat tire.

By not replacing the thin OEM foam under the new headliner, did that affect the acoustics inside the passenger compartment? It was so thin, I can't imagine that it would, but I'm going to do a Taurus in 90 days and I need to line up my eBay purchases.

@@bentnickel7487 The car i did this on is a secondary beater. When i pulled everything out, i was ready to let bygones be. Then when i read more, ppl were saying that acoustics and temperature were impacted with nothing in there. From my understanding, even if you didn't adhere fabric, keeping the foam board is the most important.
I used a stiff scrubby dish brush and dry rubbed all of the old adhesive off in no time.
