How marvellous to see this, how we all laughed in the 70s, we are all fair game in comedy as long as it is not in bad taste, I don't think anyone was insulted here, it was the humour of the period, we could all be young, old ,mother-in-laws, tyrannical father in laws, white, black, other ethnic origins ,working class (I am ) and here, The Queen Mum, with a very good sense of humour invited to laugh with ground breaking comedy and from leading writers of the day. @@markharrison2544 It isn't shown now because it isn't 'politically correct' but I would argue that rather than encourage racism, it obviously mocked people who think like 'Alf'. We are laughing at him and his ridiculous rants and opinions. He's an idiot and anyone who is racist because of watching him is a moron.

@@markharrison2544 You are right that kids in particular, along with some idiot adults do copy things they hear but that shows how stupid they are. If you watch 'Til Death do us part', Alf is always an idiot. He's inept and is obviously stupid. I think anyone who thinks anything Alf says is credible and copies it must be an idiot. He's a joke and the programme is meant to show that his opinions are ridiculous. In the last series, he got a home help who turned out to be black and gay.I thought it was hilarious. I would never call this programme sick. Its obviously anti-racist.

Tony Booth became Tony Blair’s father-in-law 8 years after this. Cherie would’ve been 18 in 1972, but Booth had left the family 10 years before. She first met Blair 4 years after this Royal Variety show. The Queen Mother died 30 years after this and the Queen died 50 years after. 50 years!
