This video is way more helpful and informative than some animated videos that have unnessary gross details but miss the most critical part.

Thank you. You really explained this well. Is there a way for me to send a picture of my Kohler cistern tank? It has an extra tube from the double flush.

Is there a few different designs or are they all now the same as this ?

There are different variations of all the components. 😎

Something isn't working correctly with my fill valve. Unless there's something else I'm not aware of. I replaced my fill valve with a Korky universal fill valve and no matter how much or little water I let flow into the flow tube the bowl fills up at the same level every time, which in this case is very quickly. According to Korky you're supposed to adjust the water flow for the flow tube so it shuts off about the same time as when the tank is full. However for me the bowl fills up super fast every single time no matter how little water I send through the fill tube. I just don't know how that can be possible.

That's normal for some bowls. The bowls in our old Kohler toilets fill up pretty quick from just the flush. We save water by diverting the fill tube water to the tank instead of the overflow tube and bowl. Here's a video on that... czcams.com/video/uMfD_utCahg/video.html

@@HacksbyDad Thank you for the quick response and letting me know that. I will say however that from what I remember the original fill valve that came with my toilet filled the bowl up slower. But I think that's because one of the features of the Korky is it's a much faster fill rate. And I never thought about diverting the fill tube to the tank. That's a pretty good idea. Though I can turn the little valve on the Korky fill valve all the way off, or at least to where it's practically off. I did that when testing and it made no difference at all in the fill rate of the bowl. Thanks again.

Why does your refill tube aim into the overflow tube? Mine was like that and was wasting tons of water because most of the incoming water was dumping into the bowl, that was already full, when it should have been filling the tank.

My toilet tank does refill automatically when the float is at the bottom. Any ideas about what needs to be adjusted?

I have an issue now where the tank is slow to fill. I replaced the toilet flapper but when shutting off the toilet supply line the valve is completely tight and closed and water is still supplying the tank. So I figure the bibb washer on the shut-off valve is already worn. So I still managed to replace the flapper and have someone hold the fill valve float to closed position while adjusting the flapper chain and float to optimal setting. After 2 days, the tank is slow to fill. I was thinking small debris from the shut-off valve bibb washer has lodged inside the fill valve ports! I need to replace the shut-off valve or replace with brasscraft rebuild kit but now I have to shut-off the main water lines in the house.

Sorry to hear that. Replacing the shut-off valve can be a pain.

@@HacksbyDad I may call a plumber to do this. It's a pain for me as I have no room to make a mistake if I do it myself as the whole house has no water supply during the repair. I'll ask the plumber just to replace the internals with rebuild kit which I already purchased.
