Homeless here. And found about about these camping tarps the best investment out here where you are at the mercy of good ol mother nature
I have the Aqua Quest Defender, 10X10, and I love it. It's a heavy haul - almost 5lbs I think, but it's a heavy duty tarp. It ain't sil-nylon. Triple stitched, heat taped, I think it has about 20 tie-offs, I could tow my car with the ridgeline strap the manufacturer puts on it - and that plough point configuration is my absolute favourite! You have a stunning view morning, afternoon and evening. The sunrise on a lake is right in your face as soon as you open your eyes. Coffee pot is right there. A wee fire at the front watching the sunset and the stars come into view in the evening. It is the most panoramic configuration available, and that's why I insist on it. If it's windier than hell with sideways rain and blowing in every direction I use the three-sided pyramid, but those are my two mainstay configurations. The next best thing to a log cabin! Another straight forward video. Meat and potatoes. All the best, Stoker!!
I’m digging the tarp too!
That is my go to tarp set up when not using a hammock...I do use another tie out in the back to raise the center for more head space....works great with both Nylon and Canvas tarps....thanks for the video Stoke....atb...woods
That’s always a great trick too! Thanks for sharing that amigo!
Very versatile tarp shelter along with the A frame. If isn’t broke don’t fix it! Great stuff, hammock shelters next???
Truth! And I LOVE my hammock!
Definitely a goto setup, it's quick, simple and strong. This will be a goto configuration when thing change quick. Appreciate you Stoker.
Right on Jessie!
Another good one from Stoker 👍🏻
Cheers!
I just watched your video on backpacks so I think i know your go to pack!
Great videos!
Can't beat a Kifaru IMO!
That is my goto especially day hiking. Tie to tree, stake 3 corners…. Done 🍺
Hell yeah! 🍺🍺
one of my favorites and even this 1 shelter can be setup so many ways depending on your needs well done Brother :)
So true!
Impressive
🇺🇸👊
Love the Tarp setup!
Indeed!
Hey Stoker, I like the various shelters you demonstrate. Not every setup is good for every situation or scene. I like that this one can be maximized to keep the sun off of you, or angled to have the morning sun warm you up. More options are good.
The more we know, the less we need!
Good job Sir
Sometimes a guy could tension out one of the additional tieouts along the center line to create more interior space.
True that.
🇺🇸🥃🤣
Im claustrophobic. A tent is impossible. The more open the tarp that will still provide the necessary protection the better. I like the plowpoint, the lean to and for crappy weater when i must use something more enclosed i use the Holden pitch.
Love the channel
Trying to see what pack your using most of the time. What’s your go to pack? Hidden woodsman?
Thanks
The Eastern Ruck by Kifaru is amazing - but they don't see it all the time.
I see the merit in that config. My preference is to have a "floor" when possible. How large would the tarp have to be to tuck the corners in to create a floor and still have room for yourself and gear? Would you consider that size tarp to be impractical? Also, I understand that doing that would require more stake out points, more stakes, more time to setup. Maybe another config would be better for that. I haven't tried that many.
It can be done with a 10x10 - Should only need 4 stakes to do it. Will try to post something here or on the Instagram as soon as I have the chance.
I have two ponchos, and one is always in my pack - keep the other one hangin' up beside the front door! Gonna' need it today, I think...anyway, the poncho does a great job for a 'floor' in my 10X10. It doesn't cover the entire floor area, but certainly provides enough coverage to unload the pack contents and have everything visibly accessible, clean and dry. Food, bushcraft tools, clothing, etc. I have the complete Canadian military sleep system, and with it I have the bivy bag. It's pretty huge, so between the bivy and and the poncho, spread out flat, that pretty much does cover the entire floor area under the tarp. You can either take a small second tarp for a floor, do what I do, or live with a much smaller structure by pulling tarp material in to provide floor cover. To gain enough floor coverage by pulling material in and under you are seriously compromising the amount of room you have to be comfortable in. I like ample space so...it's a very practical set-up for me. If I set up the three-sided pyramid (excellent for high winds and rain), the poncho will cover just about the entire floor plan by itself but, again, it's a much smaller, totally enclosed, structure. Hope this can help you come up with some ideas that work well for you.
I thought you said you were going to leave a link to this specific tarp. Where is it ?
