  • Ballymore's proposal of 25 Tower Blocks will damage wildlife in Deans Brook Nature Reserve.
"I have lived in Edgware my whole life, as have my parents, my grandparents, and my great grandparents who moved to Edgware during the Blitz.
This development will stain the wider areas skyline, casting shadows across the town centre and the residential roads that surround it.
Ballymore claim that there will be a new 1.9 hectare reserve.
    This is an outright lie.
It already exists, part of which lies behind my home.
It is home to slow worms, bats, kingfishers and the grey wagtail.
The grey wagtail which is in fact endangered in the UK.
Ballymore have been given permission by TfL to use the nature reserve as part of their development to increase the amount of land available to them.
Reducing the density of the development.
But people can't live in bushes or in sidings of the reserve.
If you remove this calculation, it is one of the highest density developments within the UK.
Furthermore, back in 1995, the current TfL Rd, which is part of the reserve currently, was granted permission by the Secretary of State.
    It had very clear restrictions.
It had to be manned and gated and used for no other purpose.
Yet again, more promises are being broken.
    Allowing people to enter.
This nature reserve is highly likely to drive out rare wildlife, particularly due to the likelihood of a lit footpath.
If this happens, it will further damage the reserves ecosystem.
Tarmacking straight through a nature reserve which has remained untouched for more than 65 years does not protect or preserve it.
Who will be policing this area day and night? It will undoubtedly bring more crime, antisocial behaviour and fly tipping to our doorsteps."
    The degeneration of Edgware
Central Edgware has been designated by the Mayor of London and Barnet Council for MAJOR redevelopment, so much so that, as currently proposed, the sheer density will make the site occupied by the shopping centre THE MOST DENSELY POPULATED DEVELOPMENT IN THE UK.
The Council decided that because Edgware Town Centre benefits from good bus and tube links, it is suitable for major high-density development and have approved in principle, buildings of up to 29 storeys tall.
If this goes ahead, all the shops in the Broadwalk Centre, and the car park would be swept away. Whilst a new Sainsburys is proposed this will have only 250 (underground) car parking spaces which is not sufficient for a full-sized superstore, let alone all the new shops and restaurants that the developers claim they propose.
    The Concerns
    • 10 years of construction and disruption
    • The suburban character of Edgware will be lost forever, and instead replaced with a mini-Manhattan
    • Insufficient local services (School, GP Surgeries etc) which may not cope with demand.
    • The demolition of the 68 seater covered bus station
    • Increased traffic and congestion on roads that are already choked with traffic.
    • An increase in litter, crime and anti-social behaviour.
    • Overcrowded tubes and buses
    • Damage to the Deans Brook nature reserve.
    • A very real risk that existing shops on Station Road will suffer by being deprived of car parking and many may go bust.

you need to state about the wildlife corridors and the impact of interbreading due to the impact this development will cause on All types of wildlife this area is now supporting they cant solve that problem as it means extermination of the wildlife that now exists.... dont despair object and keep up with protests at council level meetings make enough noise and the council will go for the opt out option and refer to gov and an inquest
