  • Watch Parts Cleaning Machine.
My first attempt using an overhead stirrer with a couple of small modifications. The tubular bearing has a length of 45mm, internal diameter of 8mm and a circular drilled flange, allowing me to steady the driven shaft much further down. The footplate measures 200mm wide by 310mm long and the whole shooting match weighs in at 9Kg. The project was completed July 2023 using many pre-made parts from Elma, via Cousins UK. This is definitely not the cheapest way forward, but a great deal cheaper than the real McCoy. Has the benefit of a small footprint - essential for most home hobbyists. Oops, I forgot to mention the final stage after the second rinse spin off is a 3 minute spin at 360rpm outside of any jars with a hair dryer heating up the basket as it spins!

The spin off cycle seems very aggressive, especially with no deacceleration, it just stops. Is the parts not being banged around ?

I had been using my usual obsessional pre cleaning regime and the same products in an ultrasonic tank prior to this, so I was able to make a comparison over time. The differences were dramatic. I've never had to cycle my machine more than once and yet the US often needed 2-3 cycles. The drying process is also significantly quicker. To put a figure on it, previously I would set aside a whole evening (4 hours) to clean a movement. Thats now dropped to 90 minutes.
