    🙄🙄 Ok first off Nikki broke up with him and second off Chenille may have had a point to what she said but Derek didn’t start liking Sarah because she was white nor did she start liking him because he was black. If you watch the first scene they interact in, this movie could have turned out very different they kind of butted heads during a class discussion and that’s what I think solidified their relationship…it caused their curiosity and interest in each other. Now back to this, Nikki did start the fight and regardless if she was right in what she said or not she was bitter, petty and childish. She didn’t even know Sarah all she new was that she was white and that her ex which of whom I point out again that she broke up with LIKED HER!!!!! So if she felt some kind of way that serves her right.
    Sarah didn’t cause Nikki to miss out on a good man, it’s Nikki’s fault for being too blind to see that that’s what he was and that’s what she had…. Sarah ain’t have nothin to apologize for in my extremely personal opinion. Now Chenille was harsh with Sarah and regardless if what she said had SOME truth to it, you can tell that yes she was just taking it out on her cause she was mad at her nasty no father wanna be ex boyfriend but on the other hand if you that mad then give the baby to Sarah go to bathroom call him and go off on him don’t go off on her!!! And my thing is this is not the first time he’s disappointed her and her son, so there was no reason for her to even bring up such things nor speak or act that way towards Sarah.

    Chenille was dead wrong for coming at Sarah the way she did. As much as she liked Sarah, I don't think she wanted her brother to be with Sarah. She realized she was wrong once Sarah walked out. When I was younger I didn’t like what Chenille said. I thought she sounded bitter. But now being older and rewatching this scene I think the point went over a lot of people’s heads. Its not just about Derrick Dating Sarah, its about her white privilege and not understanding what minorities go through. It should be noted that Chenille is just mad and stressed out in this scene so I’m assuming shes just taking some of har anger out on Sarah. But she told no lies. I think Chenille was too harsh. If Sara had acted insensitive to the issue after being told how upset Chenille was then yes, she'd deserve this. But she was a typical naive teen, clueless about what it's like to be a minority. The response to ignorance should be education, not derision. If Chenille's so mad why not get on Derek's case about choosing to date a white girl? He's the half of the couple that should be aware of the race dynamics. Not that I agree with her. I hate judgments like these. You can't choose who you love. I'm Asian so marrying outside of our culture, even other Asian cultures, has been a huge issue in my family in the past. But I sure as hell didn't get on my brother's case when he married a white girl.

There’s no shame or problem in having a type, or liking someone who looks different than your own. Someone liking someone different and being with them, does not mean they are trying to take the entire population away. Whoever your with, it’s your own personal decision, and it’s weird to me that some people feel entitled to be angry or bothered by swing people with different backgrounds or history being together. You’re saying it like they are an endangered species 😂 And if a ‘good’ black man prefers a white woman over you then maybe you should feel some type a way about him instead of just blaming the women. It’s like me saying as a white woman I don’t want to see any white men dating any race but white. I don’t own them all 😂 They can date who they like! Black, Asian, Hispanic, white. It’s not up to me and I couldn’t care less who white men want to date and if no white men wanted to date me because they was too busy dating every other race then who cares! There's temptation and offers lurking all around me. I say no to that shit. The extra money from old men the drugs I'm offered. I can't change the world right now. I can't stop racism. I can only pray it that someday it mostly runs out. I don't deny it. I just cannot do anything about it. I really dont have anything more to say to you. You're rude and I refuse to be talked down to by an arrogant a-hole who thinks she knows the whole world and what lies in every single persons heart. I tried talking. I tried explaining. You're a person whom if the person you're talking to doesn't agree then you're pretty much like "well fuck you" and that my dear will NOT get you far in life. To survive then you have to adapt. If you live in America then you really need to adapt. Times changes. The old racist people from back then will die and take their hate and anger with them and as this generation grows, tolerance and acceptance will be rich in bloom and it will be you as an outcast. This movie was far from the first to explore interacial relations. Movies dating back to before the 50s talked about it. You know during Jim crow and such. So I don't think that "those" people had an agenda. You should listen to Dr. Kings I have a dream speech (that's if you're a fan of his) and really listen. Something that they're entitled to because they have similar physical characteristics.
    People must be free to make their own choices. The fact that she or anyone feels 'hurt' by that choice is on them, not on the interracial couple. To view the world in such a way is dehumanizing, and highly illogical.

    i hate to admit there are still people out here that do have an issue with the interracial dating and from all sides of the black and white fence. (Higher Learning had a really good and brief good example from another perspective) That is what she was referring to mostly as far as what Nikki said. However NIkki was still wrong to the fullest she played Derek, he moved on as an extra blow to her ego it happened to be with Sarah. Chenile realized at the very end she hurt Sarah's feelings (of which i don't personally think she meant to do) and she regretted it.
    And its like she told Derek she was tripping off Kenny because of how things where going with him and being a single teen mom albeit things before the baby with Kenny were probably good but life's responsibility of being a new parent was kicking him in his butt and yes he had played his part in all of it and really needed to man up.
    I think at the very end at the club Chenile was a bit apprehensive on how to apologize to Sarah and whether or not she would accept. When wrong people a simple "i apologize" or" I'm sorry" comes in many forms and other words.

    Chenille was worse than Nikki and Malakai, combined!! Not that the latter two were any better, but at least, they were honest about where they stood with interracialism. Chenille was two-faced, unpredictable and HORRIBLY arrogant! First, she welcomes Sarah's arrival with an abrasive lesson about leaving her possessions on the ground (even though, logically, a person can only hold so many things at once, when opening a locker), then, after acting sympathic towards Sarah for her "new kid"-status and relationship with Derek, she OUT OF NOWHERE, scolds Sarah in public and berates her knowledge of society. Then, at the end of the film, without so much as an apology or any acknowledgement of her behavior, she acts like Sarah's her best friend, again. Unbelievable! She had the right to an opinion on the matter, but using it to belittle and mistreat an innocent person was 100% wrong.

    I was so asleep back then when I would watch this movie back in the day. Chenille was 100% right in what she said to Sarah. A lot of white people, especially white women don't understand that we as black people have a different experience living in a very corrupt system that looks down on and mistreats minorities. We don't have white privilege meaning that we get judged and treated differently by the colour of our skin. Furthermore, black men date outside of their race more than any other demographic out there. Despite a lot of black women being loyal to and supportive of black men no matter what, a lot of them choose to be with and uplift other races of women more than their own, especially when they obtain some sort of "high status" in life, when they become rich and famous for example. Although the way she made her point to Sarah was wrong, but what she said was true.

She told Sarah to look out of her own perspective, and she didn’t even blatantly say that Sarah was in the wrong, all she said was that she needed to gain some insight to her world, and Sarah left ! People keep saying that Chenille showed her true colors here, but it’s crystal clear who really was.

Remember on the beginning of the movie she doesn’t want Sara to sit with nerds, guess what: those nerds will make a great career for themselves and take care of their families and children. Unfortunately in large segments of the black community being successful in school, articulate, polite, educated and responsible is perceived as “acting white” and “uncle tomming” well that has to change asap for our own good. @@MRPhoto_Digital I've noticed it too - a lot of black men who love black women tend to be overlooked because they are "good guys" and don't fit into the "bad boy" category. But then again, a lot of the responsible, educated, good black men tend to go after the "baddies" while also overlooking the "plain jane" black women who fall into the "good girl" category. One of the biggest mistakes that we often make when it comes to dating our own is that we look at the status, reputation and exterior of the individual rather than paying more attention to the character, the heart. Although, looks do matter because we want to be attracted to the person that we're interested in, however the substance of the person should determine whether or not the person is worth it in the first place.

    It could have been any other girl of any background and Nikki would still be mad and Chenille would still lash out. The point is that Nikki cheated in Derek and left him, Chenille found herself an unreliable man (love, love, love - you are a mother now, you have child, you had a bad mother yourself, grow up and think about your son and not his father who is childish) and Sara decided to date a nice guy. Sara was naive not because she is stupid or mean, but because she grew up in good conditions. She didn't break up Derek and Nikki, she was there for Chenille (and going to doctors appointment with a kid alone is hell, believe me, so Chenille should have been grateful for not being all by herself there) and she had her own issues. So what should she have done? Feel bad for dating Derek? Why? Just because ahe is white? She lost her mom, she blamed herself, she changed both homes and schools, she lost herself. Sorry, but I don't see how she was anywhere wrong.

When she told her take good look around means truly peep who are and peep where you are

    • @karen8624
      @karen8624 Před 3 lety +8

      As was already said -
      “she is frustrated because her baby's father wasn't around. She's upset that the man SHE chose, black or not, turned out to be a dead beat. And Sarah is with a man she knows would stick around for better worse. The problem is this happens disproportionately with black women (70% of black families are headed by single mothers) and Sarah, a white woman, effectively 'contributes' to that statistic in her mind because a man that would stay and raise a family isn't even with a black woman.
      Bottom line is, it isn't Sarah or anyone else's responsibility to date within race or culture in order to alleviate those numbers. I understand Chenille's frustration because she's seeing it happen before her own eyes and it's almost a cliche at this point. But at no point does she take personal responsibility. Anyone 'agreeing' with her or saying 'she has a point' are stuck in a toxic mindset of blaming others for their own problems. Derek would've stayed with Nikki if she didn't cheat on him. Chenille wouldn't have been a single mother if she didn't sleep with a loser. And Sarah can't help who she falls for, that just so happens to have ambition. Don't bring others down, raise yourself up. Sarah earned Derek's respect by engaging him on an intellectual level that bloomed into a romance. He didn't want to be disrespected and that's why he didn't return to Nikki who cheated on him. He had enough self respect to be with someone that appreciated him as a person. You all need to have respect for yourselves if you're going to command it from others.“

This is a prime example of why so many black women hate when they see successful black men with white women.... She told Sarah to open up her eyes because she seems oblivious to the world around her and the people she chooses to hang out with are not, hence why Chanel said that, that is what they teach you, we blacks are taught different..... But when we make it work and we’re driven and hard working and have something going on, the whites the Asians, the Hispanics, the Muslims, hell even the people who are us but jealous want to come in get a little piece of the pie so they can seem like it’s good. When in reality if we weren’t about nothing then they’d spit on us or shame us to another racist statics so they could be considered better.
