You know I don't care for the Lightning, but man I feel for Cernak and Sergachev. As a goalie I've taken a lot of gnarly slapshots, but NOTHIN' to the level these NHL defenseman have to face. I have been hit in the neck and ribs with slapshots before and they hurt really bad so I can't imagine one that's upwards of probably 90+ mph.
Without goalie equipment, at that.
@@froyo11 Oh no doubt, I was thankful to have my goalie equipment when I got hit. I wouldn't wanna take shots like these at any level without more padding than standard equipment for hockey players give.

@@TomP1ayzthe harder ones probably cap at around 100 ish tbh. Couple years back he shot I think it was like 101 in the all star game.
Learned that lesson playing travel hockey up in Michigan in the 90s, face the shot to the front, don’t look away, all the padding is on the front of the body, he turned his back to the shot

I was a Defenseman and they hurt even when they hit padding. I can only imagine what ovechkins Canon feels like.
I wasn't even a defensemen and I took a slapshot right in the elbow slot at like 14yro, it hurt like hell.
I’m not a fan of Tampa Bay Lightning, but even I feel for those players. I wouldn’t wish anyone getting hurt on an Ovechkin shot. That guy has one of the most vicious slap shots in the game, and I’m pretty sure the second guy’s arm would break if Ovechkin hit it any harder.
The reason the lightning have been good for so long is bc of blocking shots. These guys will be fine it's sure af not gonna break an arm lmao

Diehard lightning fan but man we’re those 2 terrible block forms I’ve ever seen. Being a defenseman myself back in the day I know for sure you don’t want to give up either of those parts of your body ESPECIALLY TO ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL GUYS IN THE GAME😂

Are we also going to ignore that there were 4 minutes left in a game that was already over? It’s quite obvious that the Lighting are having defensive problems and they lost 2 defenders this game for absolutely nothing, I understand the coaches are aware if a player isn’t trying but this could hurt them in the long run, it was an unnecessary risk and it was in vain.
It's hard to get in proper position when you don't have enough time.
I always make the joke at games, “stop cycling and clap it in there. They will either move out of the way or learn the hard way”. Ovi has made it more of a reality than a joke lol

hmm. i don't understand their style of blocking a shot. The front of the body has: Skates, shinpads, pants, chest pad, visor, helmet. The back of the body has: Helmet.

Unfortunate thing about this is it's Ovi's bread and butter. He isn't trying to injure the opponents. That's his sweet spot to score from. You saw him ring the post earlier. The best way to defend his shot from going in is to make sure it doesn't get to the net. And sadly, this was one way of doing that.

You see that a lot in kid’s hockey where the player will turn away from the direction of the shot. Problem is most all of the protective padding on a player is on the front of said player, not on the back. I haven’t seen a pro hockey player turn away from a shot in many many years…
I mean, Sergachev has been blocking shot this way his entire career.

Dont turn around to block a shot.
Ovie has his teammates to thank for much of his success. Those guys do all the work to get him the puck in the same place he stands in half the game.
I respect his abilities for sure, but many people don’t realize how much hard work his teammates have to do to get defenders away from him and feed him the one timer in the exact spot he stands still in. He doesn’t have to skate 200 feet like a center. He doesn’t defend much. His back checking “effort” is half of his effort than when he has the puck.
He could prob have a few Stanley cups by now if he were a complete player. It would’ve probably resulted in him sacrificing some of his goals, but most players would and a lot of the greats have.
Hey, if I brought home an NHL salary (Sergachev is at $4.8 million AAV) I'd block whatever Ovi throws at me AND give him a kiss on my way to the ER!
