Hickstead Tribute ~ RIP ♥

- tragedy struck the horse world yesterday when the number one horse in the world collapsed after a round in Italy--most likely due to a heart attack. A devastating day for proud Canadians and show jumping fans all over the world. If you are like me, you've been watching Eric and Hickstead's journey throughout the years. They were my idols. I would watch in amazement as they raced across courses getting clear round after round--it was absolutely incredible to watch!
So when I heard the news I was horrified. I didn't believe it at first, how could he be here one moment, in the peak of his prime, then just gone?
I had to do something because I couldn't get the thought of Hickstead out of my mind. So I started editing. I was consumed with making this for hours and stayed up all night. I poured all my emotion into it and though I was shaking and holding back the tears, when I was done I felt a sense of relief. Because although Hickstead is no longer with us, his spirit lives on--forever. We will never forget the lively stallion that amazed us all and showed us how far a little determination and passion can take you.

Hickstead inspired me to start riding... Before I get on I think of him, every time I ride I think about him. I miss him soooo much! I cried when I heard about what happened. He was and still is the number one horse in the world! RIP Hickstead :'(
Thank you for making this, for allowing this to be seen by millions on CZcams. People around the world know his name, and Hickstead will never be forgotten. He is the Secretariat of the show-jumping world. As a Canadian, I am proud of Hickstead for serving my country. As a rider, I am proud to see such an amazing animal despite his nationality.
My heart goes out to Eric Lamaze who just lost his best friend.

I as well am Canadian, and this team sure did Canada proud.What a tragic loss. Hickstead will always remain a champion in everyones heart, especially those close to him. My condolances to everyone close to him... I personally know how a sudden tragic loss of a champion equine feels and its devastating. I pray he felt no pain. May Hickstead be in a better place, eating his favorite treats and running around as fast as the wind.... RIP buddy...
beautiful! what an amazing horse!!!! I spent my November 6 crying over the loss of Hickstead with my mom, who equally loved him. I was lucky enough to watch him live winning CHIO Aachen grand prix and at WEG in Kentucky, taking the title of "Best Horse". He was a once in a lifetime horse, who I loved to watch compete! The heart he had for the sport was incredible! r.i.p. to one of the best competitors show jumping has EVER and ever will see!

i watched their journey and i am devastated because he is such an amazing rider and has such an amazing horse i cried watching this video :( this video will be remembered forever.

I feel exactly the same way as you. I've also been watching Eric and Hickstead thru out many comps;they were inseparable . Now my heart is shredded into pieces, knowing that this horse is not living with us anymore and Canada no longer has their champion stallion -/3 rest in paradise Hickstead :'/

i was holding back tears too i didn't belive it at first the i saw it i cryed my heart out that night i ended up not going to school because i fell asleep in class

I should have gone to see the show live but the tickets were sold out. I was really sad about it and I watched it on tv. When I saw Hickstead falling on the ground I couldn't believe it... I started crying, It was shocking to see him die live on tv :,( I wish I closed my eyes but I didn't. It was horrible.

@Equestrian78 And I know that just sounded weird... but it's really hard to put into words the thoughts and emotions I feel for this magnificent animal.
It was actually caused by an artary exploading. Look under Hickstead on wiki. they have a whole artical on it :)
