Geologically active ... not geographically.
It’s annoying to not know who you’re listening to. Who was the last person? Was she a scientist?
There's nothing new here! Iceland is the home of geysires and volcanos.Earthquakes are quite normal as well.....
Working global warming into this discussion is quite a feat given that the Reykjanes peninsula's ice cover melted at least 10 thousand years ago. Yes, reduced pressure may increase the chance of eruptions ELSEWHERE in the country but the Reykjanes peninsula was probably just due for another active period, it's been quiet for a few hundred years (since the land on which the village stands was created in an eruption) ....
I agree with you 100%
Isostatic rebound just a normal phenomena. plenty of crust moving as the ice melts.
@@condellmaurice8597 I suspect you meant to respond to eiremos who was speculating why global warming would affect arctic/antarctic regions rather than the area in between. I am quite familiar with the effect of isostatic rebound - it gave us most of our shield volcanoes ("dyngjur" - not really "volcanoes" because each was produced in a single gigantic eruption). The thing is - as I pointed out - that the Reykjanes peninsula is not "rebounding" from anything, it has been ice-free for a very long time. Reykjavik, at the landward end of the peninsula, has in fact been subducting as part of the natural oscillations following the relief from pressure caused by the ice melt. This eruption is most likely caused simply by the seafloor spreading (as well as the magma plume underlying Iceland) - a constant phenomenon which has nothing to do with ice cover.
LOL - High Five to you - I commented similarly and immediately got attacked for daring to go against the narrative that so many parrot as "fact."
What have Glaciers got to do with Plate Tectonics and Vulcanism
Glaciers are heavy. When they melt and the weight decreases the ground will raise (as we see in Norway/ Sweden since the end of the last ice age). And that means fractions that can lead to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
@winterlinde5395 What a load of rubbish
Isostatic rebound
@@paulcalder9697😊
That’s what I was remembering from geology class in 8th grade. But I am thankful for causeitsthere giving us the term to google the phenomenon and learn more. 👍🏻
@@winterlinde5395Those areas had a mile of ice on top of them. We are talking here about a reduction of tens of metres. That's hardly going to make the difference between a volcano erupting or not! 🙄
Came here to check out the volcano activity and found they are blaming it on ‘global warming’. Wow…
Look up
Isostatic rebound
Blames climate change.... The area that is erupting right now has been ice free since man first arrived on Iceland.
Reykjavyk or Grindavik? Is not the same
For the folks at home not only is melting ice caps/sheets over the volcanos reducing the pressure so the magma can more easily blow through it also puts water into those faults which lubricates them. That makes it easier to erupt as well, and if the water is enough it makes a bubbly gentle flow more explosive thanks to the water flashing to steam which blows the rock, and the volcano, open.
and iirc. Ash cloud from it will be disruptive to jet turbines, for days, weeks, months to come. Across EU.
If history repeats. Another Icelandic volcano, to disrupt modern age of fast commerce and transportation ke
eh? There aren't any glaciers near Grindavik! But... kerchiing.... gotta get that meaningless reference in to climate change! Guess that's the guaranteed way researchers have of getting more money to fund themselves.
The reporter tried to sound impressive when describing Iceland as "one of the most geographically active regions ...".
I think that should have been "one of the most geologically active regions ...".
Agree with earlier comments re attempt to link with climate change when the Grindavik area hasn't seen a glacier in many years, to the best of my knowledge.
Logically , if ice melt on north pole (and south) , the pressures on mediteranean and himalayan faults would be modified , so it wouldn't seems pertinent to see volcanoes erupt in north and south faultlines ? Lately the re-equilibration would come in center has a kind of "yoyo" (with it's seisms) ? Thanks for the share
Media: "Why are there so many people who distrust the media on global warming?"
Also Media: "Volcanoes are from global warming."
But it’s true
Look up: „Isostatic rebound“
Climate change 😂 this has been going on for ever but you had to throw that in there didn't you.
Spot on. Utter bollocks!
When she said that I wanted to 👉💥🙄💨
I was going jokingly blame global warming but they beat me to the punch and were serious! The 1 or 2° temperature change surrounding Volcano is probably totally insignificant compared to the billions of BTUs coming from the core.
What does the emergency declaration enable? Mandatory evacuation orders? Where I live disaster declarations are often to gain access to federal money, but if a whole country does it I am not sure what $$ they would want to draw from.
As if surface ice has any effect on magma plumes rising and erupting through the earth's crust. In 2010, when the Eyjafjallajökul volcano erupted, scientists were predicting it would take days to melt the covering ice. It got through it in a few hours. Ice has no significant effect on whether or not a volcano erupts.
They had me interested.....until they said it's from global warming.
Who actually talks with these weird inflections?
What was it called when Iceland was warmer and glaciers much smaller than they are today? There was no climate emergencies back then only nature and sun playing a big part.
You had a great story until you started the climate change BS... Tuning out...
Tuning out… that’s why you don’t understand the interrelations. Because when you hear something you don’t understand/like you are tuning out.
@@winterlinde5395 - Actually, I'm a retired information scientist and understand propaganda techniques very well. And considering how many people accept what they hear without checking the facts, as I did for myself concerning Global Warming and it's ridiculous child "Climate Change," I find it fascinating to be lectured by those who are doing what a few people behind the curtain are directing them to do.
@@winterlinde5395stop being thick.
Around grindavik are no glaciers....... so total logic conclusion that this is the cause of global warming LOL
What a genius you are, I'm willing to bet you've never even read a book.
Or you could try to understand the logic behind it by studying the correlations
Every bad thing in nature MUST be somehow attached to the Climate Cry Sis, else logic may prevail.
This is crazy because California is declaring the state of emergency for a fire that happened under a freeway and Iceland is about to explode
Lol 😂 Spread Love ❣️
Trust they would spend time talking about global warming haha
Cimate change! Now this phenomenon makes sense.
🤣🤣🤣
I get the impression that the entire triangular area between the the north America plate and the Eurasian plate is one gigantic caldera extending from north of the blue lagoon out into the ocean. I'm afraid that this will be an Atlantis devastation event the fallout of which will be felt around the world. I hope I'm very wrong, but . . .
Your very wrong 😂
I was wondering how long it would take into the report before they started spouting off climate change and trying to put the fear into people..😂😂
Ukraine, Gaza, Trump still free and now this !
You had to get the climate change propaganda in there of course. That's when you lost all credibility in this article.
At 1 min 5 seconds your credibility dropped to zero.
Blaming climate change? Why don't you blame the people there for not wearing a mask to ward off the 'rona or the low vaccine update in Belarus? 😂
There is the carbon footprint they keep banging on about, add that to all the forest fires and voila!!
