"You should, in theory, be able to stab someone with every side of your weapon because- it's a weapon" ...I shall remember these words of wisdom forever! đ
I will make it my yearbook quote
Um... I don't wanna break your little fun bubble, buddy... but... that's actually a very dumb concept.
You see, the only few cases where this is appliable is if you have a tiny spike under Melee weapons such as a sword or a hammer.
But even in melee weapons, any sorts of actual "stabbing" blade would be incredibly unwise to put, since if you need to quickly grab your weapon from somewhere, be it preparing for battle and unsheathing it, or just plainly getting it from somewhere because you had to throw it or got it knocked off your hand, you could easily get your hand cut by accidentally sweeping in one of the sides of the sharp edges before reaching the handle itself.
As for guns, it's pretty much unfeasible to actually handle the gun, since most heavy guns, to be properly wielded, need their butt to be able to rest on your shoulder. And smaller guns like Pistols or the like, to be reloaded, unloaded, and sometimes even when fire need you to quickly pass your hand near their rear. Where, again, it'd easily get cut accidentally by the stabbing blade.
Don't let yourself be carried by edginess, people. The edgier a weapon (Or armor, or tool, or pretty much anything else) looks, the worst it would be to actually wield it IRL. If it were even feasibly useful at all.
Errr... This is quite an old comment, totally forgot about it! Anyways, I wasn't being serious. Just quoting Jazza for a laugh is all so... Yeah. Fun bubble not broken. Thanks for the tips tho!
Ah okay. Sorry, I thought you might seriously have considered that and I don't really care for comment/thread dates, so better safe than sorry, eh?
Anyway, glad to know you're aware and you're very welcome! *Tips Hat*
(I read your comment with Zenyatta voice xD)
Whenever designing weapons, you should always keep the wielder in mind. Especially in fantasy worlds, weapons are often custom-made for the wielder and have specific traits the wielder likes to utilise in battle, or a design the wielder likes. when you know the weapon when you know the master.
Also, if you read this far down, here's a cookie

sorry I ate it...
Hi

Excellent advice.
Good advice but i want my cookie

Damn I wish I had a drawing tablet. Going threw all the steps and adding layers is hard when all you have is lined schoolwork paper and a regular hb 2 pencil.
C'thulu TheGreat drawing tablets can be really hard to get used to because of the stylus it picks ups a lot more of your hand shaking. Also get a sketchbook and hb pencils are fine.
Well, you won't be going all out on a Cintiq anytime soon, but if you really want one go ahead and get a Wacom Intuos. They're pretty cheap, only about $70, and it's Wacom so you know you're getting a good product anyway. Like +Dakota Wright said, it is a challenge getting used to the tablet, but you will if you just draw with it very often. Replace your mouse with it all together until you're really comfortable with it. Don't let that hold you back if you really want to use one.
Rip
Shadow Bunny ikr
Stylus work on something like an Intuos is a huge adjustment, whether you are going from paper to digital or from being a lifelong keyboard and mouse person to graphic art on a stylus. The work flow on digital side is difficult to adjust to.
One other important note, digital stylus pointer tracking (the mousing of the pointer) frequently will lag behind your actual real time painting/drawing. I noticed it when using a Wacom tablet while editing photo.

Bleu Ches lol ikr.im gonna guess this pointy aimy thingy and pull the firey gunny thingy

XD what did your mom do after then?
xD
Sashenka Aethelbeorn Omgđ
That's why I use headphones.
Sashenka Aethelbeorn perfect timing XD
"Let's- just for funsies- add a spike on that because you should, in theory, be able to stab someone from every side of your weapon."
That made me laugh so hard, and I'm not quite sure why. XD
Jazza, teaching you how to make murder items.
+CAPTAIN BOSS. me: (pulls out a silhouette) wait hold on

I approve this comment.
"a little pointy aimey thingy" no thats the technical term, you got it.
"I will make a short video..." *26 minutes long*
Amittai Taiber lol did not realize that XD
Amittai Taiber 27 actually don't hate on me just saying
Can you draw all of this while explaining everything within a hour? This is a weeks work for some people LOL
Its closer to 27
XDD Lol
Too bad I can't draw any of them in American schools cuz apparently I'll get suspended for terrorism or something
fr
They'll actually expel you xD
Uh, I drew a couple of axes in my classroom... But I was kinda known as "the artist" so yeah, you MIGHT get in trouble?
I had awesome teachers.
Lakahiya Newberry Yeah
BlenderLager lol carry guns around like nothing
That gun is by far my favorite, followed by the ax, then the sword, then the knife in that order. They're all awesome!
the dagger looks like a dadric dagger from skyrim
Rage Gaze i was thinking the exact same thing
Rage Gaze I was thinking it was a bit like an orcish dagger I have never seen the daedric one
Rage Gaze The final sketch of it looks like a dragon claw imo
Daedric* đ
I'm one of the people who loves fantasy weapons based in realism, but even so, this video was incredibly useful! Thank you for this!
Very nice technique, thank you)

Jazza... thank you! I've been looking for ways to design fantasy weapons, especially fantasy firearms which is a topic that is NOT widely discussed.
BTW, the thing about fantasy/sci fi firearms... personally, one day I'm going to take this concept and design fantasy firearms that actually work. Most sci-fi guns are impractical pieces of crap that no one could use beyond point blank in real life (maybe that's the reason stormtroopers have such shitty aim) and as a self-proclaimed gun nut, I will make it a mission in life to design fantasy guns that you actually can use.
It isn't even that hard. In the past 10 years, many gun manufacturers already came up with guns that look pretty sci-fi to begin with...
Hotshotter3000 did anyone ask you....
Didnât think so therefore be quite
@@lostdre4ms387 heh, nobody asked you either, nobody asked me. We just decided to show up and be rude, so let's not, buddy.
@@lostdre4ms387 shut up
"I want to draw my own weapon".
*Copy's Jazza's weapons*
Weai Ng Lol I do that with whatever he designs or draws
@Ned Stark plagiarism and copying are different things, as long as you dont claim the design as your own its alright
i was litterally working on a chracter design porfolio and couldnt move forward with my gun design cause i didnt know what to do with it your vids really helped .my porfolio is saved cause of you thank you! ^.^
I just noticed, from my perspective, you are like Gordon Ramsay retiring from professional chef to professional artist XD
And charging nearly as much for his services, lol.
$250 for *one* simply-drawn character, with *no* background? Only large corporations can afford these rates.
And that is his cheapest price on the entire site when taking requests!
"THOSE PROPORTIONS ARE FUCKING RAW!"
YES!!! It's about time someone created a decent tutorial on this! Keep up the brilliant work!
You are going to help me a lot for my future Jazza! I want to draw Game Art as my job in the future, so you teaching the techniques will help so much! Keep it up :D
I recently subbed to you, in hopes of getting my hand to work over that blank page and now you have given me everything I need to design my own fantasy weapons for my upcoming D&D sessions!
I am so grateful :D
No, Jazza, I'm pretty sure that "pointy aimy thingy" is the technical term.
I knew it!
I can only think about RWBY when i hear "fantasy weapons"...
+Juan Gonzalez finale was so goooood, i dont wanna wait like 10 more months D:
+Oliver Bedier ikr : L
Tragic, isn't it? At least we know shit's going down in volume four ;)
IKR
+Oliver Bedier Gray said they were going to get to work as soon as possible during the RWBY Stream, so I'd say it's more like a couple months now, instead of ten.
I love how you did the spiral engravings on the axe blade !
I'm trying to become a concept artist for games and I'm just studying different ways till I find my own and my head just blew up watching how you made the weapons look like a full concept art o_o
I am a FPS game devolper and this tutorial really helped me come up with concpt art for my games.
+Peter Christiaanse Lol, the game engines thing might confuse u, if u r devolving games as a unknown developer u might need a game engine that is free to download. U have a few choices here. Unity Engine, Source Engine, Cry Engine and Unreal Engine. All of them have their advantages and disadvantages, so google them if u want, I prefer to use Unreal, it is simple but advanced. And as far as the modelling goes, u can use anything. Many people go for Maya but I say just use Blender. Blender is how I get my models and over the months I've gone better at modelling. Keep working hard and hopefully u will have your own Dream FPS game someday.
+Peter Christiaanse NP, anytime.
Lord Sacha I am not doing it myself alone. I do have a small team of 14 people helping me. Still we are not skilled enough to finish projects fast like DICE or Treyarch.
"A small team" the biggest team I could get would be like 3 or 4 people, all being my friends that are interested in computer related things ;-;
"Gun Shooty Pew-Pew Weapons" the best weapons ever. lol Awesome video! Actually helped a lot. XD
"Gunshooty pew pew weapons" IM DYING LMAO
10:33 the Dagger blade is starting to look like that of a Spartan's Xiphos
10/10.
The thing I like most is how each weapon looked like a sketch and had a unique design.
This will help me a lot with designing my rwby OC's weapon. Right now it just looks like a stick.
***** It's a 3d animated show made by rooster teeth, which is about 4 girls who fight monsters. Though that is a poor description, so you should really watch it yourself and see. Have a look at the trailers on youtube in the order of red, white, black and yellow.
+Mohammad Lazuli Fair warning, the first volume is basically just there to help you get to know the charcters, second picks up spead, and third everything starts to go down. Also there are three volumes in a season.
***** Mine too ;) Have far have you gotten so far? And are you enjoying it?
+Wolfan Terror You sound like you're the creator of RWBY.
laos85 Um. Well, obviously I'm not. Ever heard of people make their own characters for RWBY?
I've been wanting to make some of these. Thanks Jazza!
Thanks so much, Jazza! This will really help me with designing my and others OCs' weapons! I love shows like TMNT and Ninjago, so this really does help a lot!
Wow, this one video has taught me so much for how short it was. Thank you so much.
It's funny how, when you made the silhouettes, I thought you legitimately had no idea about handguns. But you did a good job to the details.
Jazza! you'r a solid value in my you tube account! keep it up dude!
You're a solid subscriber! Thanks for your support!
Wow jazza replied! Good for you!!
We need more of these kind of videos! This is one of my favorite Jazza videos :D
I know someone who knows so much about fantasy weapons it's not even funny. Started collaborating with him because I know nothing and I'm writing a book. He's also been helping me with illustrations. He's just a cool dude
The f*cking gun was magical! It went from basic bitch to the guy she tells you not to worry about!
I tried to draw but my mom said I'm too ugly
+T.V.C cartoons You're too ugly to draw
+3DMega I know đȘ
Ur too ugly đđđ
Wait whaaa-?
đ
Well if u were trying to draw yourself then what she told was right...or you made yourself even uglier by your drawing skills.
Ps I'm not saying you do bad drawings (not that i have seen them anyway) but you were kinda asking to get insulted by your comment.
The dagger is called "The Dragon Tooth Dagger", it was forged in a dragons breath, the grip is of dragon scales, and the bottom tip is made from the tooth of Arankn the legendary black dragon.
I really like the hilt on the sword you drew,I might use that for a new character I'm making! Thanks Jazza!!!
been waiting for something like this! :)
Dang this is da first vid I saw of yours and ur so good u just earned a sub :D
ditto
CrazyCatz Randomness I know right same :D
Nice tutorial!
(Also, i am planning to make my fantasy sword out of wood, grey and black paint, (different shades of grey) and something to hold all the wood together. (And some hydrophobic stuff to... keep it dry.)
Thank you this helped tons. I have tough characters but since my style is so cute no one really takes them seriously but with a weapon that's not generic helps tons thank you
Meanwhile I'm making big ass weapons full of the souls of the innocent embedded with the blood of chuck norris inspired by monster hunter
Anthony crespi that's not blood of chuck Norris. Chuck Norris can't bleed, he has impenetrable skin
HedgehogWithAtophat he donated blood
He tried, and the syringe broke
You don't know alle the correct terms? "Gun shooty pew pew weapons" sounds pretty accurate to me ;D
Thank you so much for this! I've always struggled with making interesting weapons for my characters. Also all the PS tips are really nice like the stroke I NEED THAT lol
Jazza your brushes are amazing i love them! Your Channel is one of the best made in youtube!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish I could do This but I'm not good at drawing
Same.
just practice. i just realized I'm on my alt!
"You should be able to stab someone with any side of your weapon" - One of the most awesome things said in this channel.
I DONT KNOW HOW BUT I ACHIEVED MAKING A CONCEPT IMAGE OF MY WEAPON! The silouette idea is a great brainstorming technique and I would have never thought of it without this video. Thanks so much!
Jazza, Thanks so much for your tutorials. They are very helpful!

Sci-Fi Gun Shooty Pew-Pew Weapons! Put that on a t-shirt, lol.
I love you for the tip about the shift key and the straight lines! You got yourself another watcher :o
Love the tutorial Jaza specially the curvy dagger. Amazing work.
that gum looks like the pistol from halo

aplha wolf Nah
Ehh.. sure.
lol its funny how he uploaded this on valentines day
Ike
yup
It's not Valentine's Day in australia
Yes! That is how I would draw the grip guard on a pistol as well. I too am pleased with this design.
Great video Jazz , great way to get people started who want to draw stuff like weaponry
when axe is black it looks like rolling pin
lol
5:48
lol yeah
haha
no hate or anything, just funny how he said quick video and video goes on for 30 min :D
Can any of us really draw all this in detail, within 30 minutes? Seems really short in that logic XD
This is awesome! You rock Jazza!
Super helpful! A wonderful basic guide and it became a favorite pastime of mine âșïžâșïžâșïž
how did he make straight lines without dragging to one point to another like at 6:44
Hold shift while u stroke
thanks :D
+CiscoLitco How do u do that without the transparency issue.
its pressure sensitivity so press it really hard lol or use a non transperent brush
Pretty sure it happens even on hard brush, dunno.
Hey Jazza. What sort of program is this, and how do you draw? With a mouse or with a draw pad?
I use a tablet
+Draw with Jazza Do you use a tablet pen with or without eraser tool?
+Jonas Christensen I'm pretty sure the software comes with the eraser tooÓ.
+Tha Vrisco There is a new sort of tablet, but it does not have eraser tool sadly. But it seems very good nonetheless.
I doubt he has that tablet since I saw him erase things in the video multiple times.
thank you soo much !!! you make look soo easy and I even started doing that ! keep making videos !!
This is really useful for designing concept for original cosplay weapons. Thank you!
No bow? Oh man!
That one friend that genuinely enjoys Rick Astley
Because bow
The sword nerd inside me is cringing.
... do you play dnd?
This is the most helpful weapon design video i have ever watched !! đ
This is such a great idea. I'm sure it's pretty well known but to me it's one of those "it's so simple, why didn't I think of that" techniques. Thanks Jazza you're a top bloke ;)
what drawing pad do you use for photoshop? and if you could, what is the Price?
i use wacom intuos wow
fastest ive ever gotten here lol
+The Spitba11Warrior si hahaha
+The Spitba11Warrior Yeah, the shitty joke.
This actually really helped me thanks Jazza
thanks for the Idea with the silhouettes, helps a lot^^
no more interest in Kyle's brushes?
I have nothing against his brushes, they were great when i used them, but i spent a lot of time making brushes that are ideal for my own workflow and have never turned back since :)
Alright, btw great animation with Adobe Animate. But what about Toon Boom? Sticking with Adobe yet again?
+Draw with Jazza hey jazza, how do you record your screen? I'll start a youtube channel as well, just to post my drawing..but I'm having trouble to record the screen :/ Thanks
+Draw with Jazza i'm eager to see shad's comments on this!
+Renan Cavalcante Hey, If you're using Windows OS, check out Camtasia Studio, the software comes with with an screen recorder which gives you the option to record you screen, your micro, and your face (If you have a webcam) all at the same time. I've been using it for quite a long time. Works great. Greetings from Colombian Amazon.
How did Jazza get the brushes to remain on the left side of the screen?
Go to windows>tool presets and then you can anchor it somewhere
Oh! Thanks a ton!
Draw with Jazza make a part two of you doing this I really in joy it
Great videos. Thanks for the brushes.
"Make sure every end of it is stabby..." XD love it
jazza can you please make a weapon skin for csgo??
I would actually like seeing that...I feel like he would make a pretty cool one for each class of weapons.
Lucas R PLEASE
"today i'm gonna make a quick Video" 26 mins later
This level of detail takes hours lol
this was awesome, id love to see more concept design vids :)
Could you make one of these for a bow and arrow?
Also, what is a good and practical way to redesign a classic design, such as a superhero's costume. (ie. Batman, Superman, Cyborg, etc.)
i know this is designing for awesome, but the sword snobb inside me is cringing.
I knew they would be lol
Same here. It looks cool, but man, would wielding it suck.
Don't worry, all fantasy weapons are made of impossobilum, a material that makes extremely impractical and fragile designs impossibly usable.
It's called a magazine not a clip :)
it is both, just what you prefer to say.
its not
Its only a magazine, not a clip, but it really doesnt fucking matter anyway
+Sean Chamberlain I went through hunters safety, i'm not taking this from 10 year olds who learned that from call of duty. and most people only say magazine when its a loaded clip, and when "I just went through a magazine."
Censored Play Clips are devices that store multiple rounds. You use the clip to load the magazine quickly, rather than putting each bullet in one by one
my fav is the dagger becasue at the end it looks like a raptor claw love it
The redisigned gun silhouette kinda looks like a huge ship!
Imagine a ship that can change it's scale and turn into a weapon!
That sounds cool! You can travel on water and fight with the same thing!
Îč âÏÎœŃ ŃÏÏ Ń âŃαÏÎčĐžgŃ ĐșŃŃÏ Ï Ï ŃĐœŃ gÏÏâ ÏÏŃĐș
Please, don't write like this.
Why the fuck would u type like that... Please fucking stop doing that.
High Five To The Face With A Chair â áŸâ°Đ âá áŻââáŸáœ áœáŸU?
Okay, but, ya like jaz?
I'd be a really large buzzkill if I come in and say that though cool, none of the designs would be practical, wouldn't I... well, coming from a bladesmith, none of the designs are practical. You won't get much more practical as far as blades go because, well, we've have thousands of years to perfect them, and I highly doubt you will make them any better.
true
TheCompute101 "we've have" we have have xD
In reality, if you are drawing or creating graphic art in general, you usually want your weapons to stand out and regular blades doesn't really do that, so you have to make them somewhat unrealistic but atleast look good to have an excuse lul
That guy Not exsactly. sometimes they do try to add effects to make the weapon more deadly; However they forget about their physics classes.
Good job.... you have officially wasted time lol
Wow! That really inspired me. Good work :)
After I watched this and I free styled what I had learned I was known as trigger pen because I drew a awesome gun. Thanks!
đđ
âïžđ forever
I really like how you explain things. REALLY AMAZING VIDEO
ps. the guns my favorite
Okay but this is a really cool idea! I always have trouble with weapons but my problems seem to be fixed.
I love bows so much. Most of the time people who use bows in shows are my favorites like Yoichi from Owari no Seraph.
When i draw weapons I'll pay attention to combat like items. For short grip weapons (Short swords, Dagger, Knifes, Etc.) I'd would usually add brass knuckles at the grip to make it more open to combo attacks.
