Billy, having worked around feral cats (in rescues) with kittens they do chat, but this mama cat is extremely talkative! What I've noticed before is that the ferals are much more inhibited with their vocalizations whenever a person is around, but having never had a camera out when no one is in the room I've no idea what the conversations were like when no one was around.
I had one. We called her Puma. While I'm glad we spayed her to control unwanted pet population, I would've loved playing with/cooing to/petting her & her kittens; Laying on the blankets in the box. She always slept with me on my bed, either at the foot, or beside my bedside drawers. I miss her.
This is an important lesson for the kittens apparently. I adopted a little calico - about 1 year old - from a no-kill shelter. She'd been on the street before that, and had suffered from some trauma, evidently, though she recovered quickly when I spoiled the hell out of her. But she couldn't meow. The vet told me it's a learned behavior from the mother, and that she probably was separated too early and on her own, and never learned the skill. But aside from that, she turned into the coolest, funniest, most centered, mellowest kitty I'd ever owned. She just couldn't meow.
She died last year at the age of 15. I tried everything. But evidently if it's not learned in babyhood, it isn't learned at all. Ah well. She had other ways of getting my attention. Considering the trauma of her first year of life, she was the happiest, most well-adjusted kitty I've ever had.
Could her vocal cords had been damaged? Since she was on the street maybe she 'grew out of vocalizing.' I've heard that wild cats don't typically vocalize like domesticated cats do. I haven't heard of them learning from the mother before so I'm going to do some research about it. I'm sorry to hear she died so recently but at least she had a long life.

They actually DO communicate with their babies. When We moved into our house, there was a feral cat that lived there. Well, she got pregnant and so I brought her in the house so she could have her kittens here. I think she had 5 or 6. I kept her in the front bathroom with her babies and put up a baby gate so kittens wd not get out. So one night it was raining really hard with lightning and thunder. Before the thunder though, they were jumping around and being rumbunxious. Then, a BIG thunder came! Momma cat made some kind of little talk to them and all of a sudden it was real quiet in the bathroom. I went to look and they were all in a corner all hunkered up in a ball!! I think she actually warned them of “danger”. Ever since I have a lot more respect for these beautiful felines!,
I cant even believe that there are STILL humans who think animals are a lesser species than humans! Of course they convey a full range of communication JUST LIKE WE DO
i’ve raised multiple litters, they’ve all done this and it’s so adorable 💕 edit: may have worded this wrong, the mothers did all the raising. i was mostly only there for vet visits/making sure they stayed out of harms way, i would never separate kittens and mothers unless they were already orphaned/abandoned otherwise. please, keep your cats indoors and check out your local shelter's TNR programs. most shelters are already over capacity and spaying/neutering saves a lot of heartache in the long run for strays, and so, so many need a loving home as it is.

I took in a three-week old kitten a few days ago who was found in a garbage can and she hasn’t stopped crying. I thought maybe the sound of a mama cat might calm her. She immediately fell asleep and when the video ended, she started crying again. So, thanks for the comforting audio. I’ll be playing this a lot over the next week or two.
Make sure you feed it kitten formula. Take him or her to the vet. But, just wrap a baby blanket. Then make sure you help him or her pee pee and stimulate to teach him to use the little box.
I love that special purpose call mother cats have. I’ve witnessed it in person. In their vast repertoire of sounds, they only bring this out for their very special audience.
I loved the mom's soft voice...it's the same gentle voice human moms use toward their babies. Like she was cooing at them. It was so cute... I hugged my monitor.

This brings back memories. Not good ones though. About 4 and a half years ago now I adopted this beautiful black cat, I felt bad because her previous owners were keeping her in a barn, during winter, in Wisconsin. She was freezing and I took her but never intended to keep her I was going to find her a new owner but she grew on me and I loved her. I called her Hex and a year after I adopted her she got outside and came back pregnant. Eventually having kittens that look exactly like the ones in this video. Hex got out again by tearing a hole in the screen of the door, I forgot to shut the main door and I've hated myself for it ever since. I found Hex 2 weeks later torn open. I dont know what did it but its something you just can't un-see or forget about. One kitten was given to my aunt and another to a friend but I kept the third one who I still have, her name is Sammy. But all I can remember when I saw this was Hex's beautiful black shining coat and her wonderful green eyes. I cried when I watched this because of it. Sorry for wasting your time if you read this but thank you if you did.
Remember to NOT sterilize your cats so the world doesn't run out of them! Good grief. I am sorry OP lost your sweet little friend, but glad that you got at least a sweet offspring to keep you company in her place.

i’ve raised multiple litters, they’ve all done this and it’s so adorable 💕
edit: may have worded this wrong, the mothers did all the raising. i was mostly only there for vet visits/making sure they stayed out of harms way, i would never separate kittens and mothers unless they were already orphaned/abandoned otherwise.
please, keep your cats indoors and check out your local shelter's TNR programs. most shelters are already over capacity and spaying/neutering saves a lot of heartache in the long run for strays, and so, so many need a loving home as it is.
I hope you are fostering and not breeding, too many of these sweet babies don't get a home.
@@j.cassavoy4661 no breeding, they’ve been given to other family members and are well. i do make sure strays in the area are spayed though.

@@sm_stormzy1075 my cat had kittens and I only gave them away after 7 months. I think in nature this is also the time where a mother cat would likely never see her cat again because they do venture out after 4 months

I took in a three-week old kitten a few days ago who was found in a garbage can and she hasn’t stopped crying. I thought maybe the sound of a mama cat might calm her. She immediately fell asleep and when the video ended, she started crying again. So, thanks for the comforting audio. I’ll be playing this a lot over the next week or two.

Make sure you feed it kitten formula. Take him or her to the vet. But, just wrap a baby blanket. Then make sure you help him or her pee pee and stimulate to teach him to use the little box.

I love that special purpose call mother cats have. I’ve witnessed it in person. In their vast repertoire of sounds, they only bring this out for their very special audience.
I loved the mom's soft voice...it's the same gentle voice human moms use toward their babies. Like she was cooing at them. It was so cute...

This brings back memories. Not good ones though. About 4 and a half years ago now I adopted this beautiful black cat, I felt bad because her previous owners were keeping her in a barn, during winter, in Wisconsin. She was freezing and I took her but never intended to keep her I was going to find her a new owner but she grew on me and I loved her. I called her Hex and a year after I adopted her she got outside and came back pregnant. Eventually having kittens that look exactly like the ones in this video. Hex got out again by tearing a hole in the screen of the door, I forgot to shut the main door and I've hated myself for it ever since. I found Hex 2 weeks later torn open. I dont know what did it but its something you just can't un-see or forget about. One kitten was given to my aunt and another to a friend but I kept the third one who I still have, her name is Sammy. But all I can remember when I saw this was Hex's beautiful black shining coat and her wonderful green eyes. I cried when I watched this because of it. Sorry for wasting your time if you read this but thank you if you did.

Remember to NOT sterilize your cats so the world doesn't run out of them! Good grief. I am sorry OP lost your sweet little friend, but glad that you got at least a sweet offspring to keep you company in her place.
edifyguy the world will not run out of them! But at least we will spare many of them from hunger, cold and sufferings. Look how many stray cats outside! Instead of breeding new ones, why not to take care of those who already exist and need our help?
Those kitties will one day become fierce hunters, with incredible gymnastic & athletic skills....like they do 😄
