- Critic.Reading.Writing is taking a break for the month of May but we will return in June with a series of episodes on Magical Realism. Apart from defining what we mean by the term magical realism, the series will include the works of Amos Tutuola, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Isabel Allende, Salman Rushdie, Ben Okri, Lauren Beuke, Toni Morrison and Laura Esquivel.
Thank you for your support of our channel and see you in June!
Waiting for your videos sir... ❤️
Waiting for your videos Prof!

Always welcome, Agyeiwaa!
Greetings Prof,
Looking forward to your next episodes on magical realism.
Can’t wait for the new series and enjoy your well deserved break!!!!!!
Hi Miles, glad you are looking forward to the magical realism episodes. I am excited about them too.
I can't wait for this series in June. My introduction to Magical Realism was through Amos Tutuola's Palm-Wine Drinkard. I like how the drinkard's body has vague outlines and undergoes shapeshifting thereby subverting and invading the disciplined and legislated bodily expressivity. This series will be a good study space. See you in June!
Hi Kwame, Tutuola is definitely an early exponent what I would describe as animist realism, an important precursor to magical realism proper. This is something I am looking forward to exploring in my episode on him. More anon.
Interesting! I can't wait for June. As a commitment, I would do well to read the ones I haven't read in the list.
Thank you Prof. I have learnt a lot from these episodes even as an undergrad.
