I played Howls Moving Castle at my school talent show

- My performance of Merry-Go-Round of Life from Howls Moving Castle arranged by Joe Hisaishi at Chapel Hill High School.
For the arrangement I used, I took two separate arrangements and intertwined them--the coda was from the "Ghibli Best Stories Piano Book" while (most of) the rest was from this arrangement: • 【楽譜あり】人生のメリーゴーランド/久石譲(... . Give them support! very well scored
learning Merry Go Round of Life on the piano took approx. 2-3 months, with about 1-1½ hours of practice a day. I started taking piano lessons around the age of 7-12 years old, stopped playing, and then picked it up about a year ago at 16 years old.
My guess as to what abrsm grade this piece is; around grade 7.
This piece has very deep meaning towards me and I decided to share with an audience to reveal my passion for the song. This was the second day I had performed this piece, with a very shaky and crappy performance due to anxiety the previous day.
the show was not a competition, but the lead tech manager had said the audience had cheered the loudest she had heard in her life, that being said, there were some AMAZING other acts.
I have a deep love for Joe Hisaishi's compositions and will continue to post more of them on my channel. Give a like and a sub if you're interested!
thank you so much for watching

Which music sheet did you use to play? Was it someone else's arrangement?

@@lucamccr574 Wow, so well done! Very good playing btw. I want to play as good as you 🤩🤩🤩. Also, how long did it take to learn the song? Just would like to reference 😀😀
It took me approx. 2-3 months to complete. My reading skills are mediocre so Id bet you could learn it faster
@@lucamccr574 I wish lol. I’m in the same boat for reading music sheets but yeah, 2-3 months is not bad.
was a pretty grueling process but yk what they say--if you can play it slow you can play it fast

lesson learned: dont let mistakes ruin your performance
yes absolutely, come to terms that mistakes will occur and you'll be prepared for everything!
I played this song for a guy, and I messed up so many times it ruined my confidence to play piano in front of people again, I hope to regain my confidence and play it like this for him someday
Handled it like a true champ 😤👍💫

just makes the performance more unique. Nice work!
Oh wow that was impressive. When it happens I just have a memory slip for the rest of the piece

play it again, and its improvisation. Repetition legitimises
Naaaaaaah those balls of steel that you have, even if you miss 3 times on the same measure, you resume your performance as if nothing had happened and you go to the end in front of hundreds of people... it's very strong , congratulations!! thank you from France for this incredible performance!!

thank you so much 🥹♥️
Bb + D baby
you can see the passion while he plays, the movements, I felt every single note beeing played, the wrong notes went straight out of my ear.
you gave life to the masterpiece, as it should always be.
absolute LEGENDARY play.
*felt* but yeah your right
this was so unbelievably amazing, i literally started tearing up. absolutely beautiful, and mad respect for continuing to deliver a masterpiece even after slipping up
tysm!!
the fact that he played with more emotion after the mess up! AMAZING SAVE!!
Love when the pianist's passion is visible. Really connects you with the music.
there's two rules all pianists must know:
1. Never stop while performing, no matter what
2. never repeat missed notes
it made me die inside when he repeated the notes 2 times but the save was good, props to him for performing in front of the school. I remember playing for my final music school exam and then suddenly forgot the notes completely, started slowing down cause I completely forgot what to play next, and then suddenly when I was just about to stop it popped into my head and I started playing again, felt petrified at that moment.
That must've been so damn stressful
@@emerilmacayaon5186 it really was lol. I'm so happy I'm done with music school

he probably replayed the missed notes because he blanked out for a sec and was trying to re-trigger the muscle memory.
It might not show when someone’s performing but when u perform infront of a crowd it feels like the whole worlds on ur shoulders

Loved the ending at 4:45 with such focus and cold blood you're a legend
Man, as a young pianist who’s been playing since I was four, people always told me that I have great musicality and it didn’t matter how many mistakes I made the piece sounded amazing, I never quite understood what they meant. In the moment, any slip up sticks with you and makes your hands sweat for the rest of the piece! Watching you perform and the passion behind every movement really makes me understand why having musicality is so important. Even though you had a slip up it was such a forgettable moment because of how phenomenal you played. Thank you for sharing this performance
Integrating the error like that was genius, you played it on beat even as you corrected yourself, giving the piece's namesake a sense of a mere stutter, rather than coming to a screeching halt. Recovery like that alone is a talent in it's own right.
i got chills at 4:46 !!!! i could feel the passion radiating from your performance!! you did an amazing job with such a difficult piece 👏👏👏👏👏👏
amazing bro, its not just the song its also how you played it with emotion and body movement.

bro this was INCREDIBLE, the amount of emotion you convey when you play is insane, you’re so talented!! i’ve been teaching myself how to play the piano for about 8 months now and holy shit i wanna be able to play like you when i grow up (even tho i’m definitely much older than you💀)
You got it! I believe in u fr!
Only after I finished this and read the comments did I realize you had made a mistake.. the piece was played so convincingly and emotionally that I assumed it was a part of the whimsy. Oh and by the way, you made me feel like I was Sophie gallavanting above the city streets for a moment 😍
I absolutely love this, started practicing this piece myself more than a month ago now, and never had lessons, been playing for like 2-3 years learning by myself. Few parts stay difficult, especially the part where you did the legendary save, massive respect, and the end is also tad bit hard I find, but you aspire me to keep going. Absolute king
you got it dawg! Absolutely agreed as well. All it takes is time and persistence
Many people play piano well. Not many perform pieces well on the piano. Congratulations on a beautiful performance.
This piece is so difficult but beautiful because it demands that you play it with emotion. This was soso immaculately done if not for feeling alone. You captured the spirit of the song well, I think the slip up adds to that
Quite literally, the merry go round of life. Proud of you!
I would be shaking man… you did it so beautifully and confidently! Congratulations my guy.
3:39 I could say it fits , is just like it even sounds good
Love it 💗💗
holy god your rendition is so full of life and emotion, and executed so brilliantly ,from the pedaling to your technique, I can just see your passion seeping through with every note you play, i genuinely nearly started screaming at 4:50 , definitely one of my favorite interpretation's of merry-go-round of life I have ever heard - no kidding -
and the way you just recovered so easily from your mistake, just proves how great of a pianist you are!
amazing job :)
thank you so much!!
That's what a musicien is, making mistakes isn't grave, what's important is to transforme those mistake into something better.
Playing "perfectly" isn't important, what's important is playing with emotions and make the melody live.
You've got the good phrasing and emotional aspect which is the most important skill out of all musicians. Props to a spectacular performance!
Wow! That was an amazing performance!
I seriously need to start practicing,
Wish me luck, I'm playing spirited away's "Always with me" for a recital soon!
Nice!! Ghibli songs are always hits--good song choice
You did the song justice, and in front of a live audience too. Rocked it even under pressure
Bro is absolutely cooking
Oh my god, as a pianist also learning this song I am astonish with how well you played, you are incredible. Also the insane times when you recovered from a mistake and continued to play as well as before wow, really impressive
Howl's Moving Castle was the first Ghibli movie I ever saw, and when I rewatched it for the first time in years a few weeks ago, hearing Merry-Go-Round of Life nearly brought me to tears almost every single time it played throughout the film. You've clearly poured your heart into this performance of a song so very dear to me, and for that I thank you. Keep up the marvelous work, and never stop having fun playing piano!
One mistake do not define who you are, you played beautifully, full of life and truly musical. The dinamics were impeccable. Congratulations for the great work!
Such a beautiful job!!! I've listened to every version imaginable for this song and your preformance is by far one of my favorites! I'm actually preforming a ballet to this for my talent show! But again, beautiful job! And nice save at 3:39. Almost had a panic attack when the wrong note was pushed. (о´∀`о)

Wow... This is the song I wanna play for the upcoming talent show. How long did it take for you to play it this well???
