    We share a love of the Cielo X1 and the Superblast - I’ve done all my training in the SB and will race London in the Cielo X1 - Not really sure why the latter is not universally loved, I can only think that it isn’t good for heel strikers, as I mid-foot striker, they give me the perfect forward propulsion through the rocker and the winged plate gives me much needed stability. Perfect race shoe for me, I even like the much Maligned laces 😊

    I'm in NorCal too, and it gets to triple digits here in the summer. It will be interesting to see how the upper feels. I bought mine in the winter. Unfortunately, it hasn't been all that for me. But that's me. Mercifully, I purchased it at a discounted price; so, I don't feel so bad that it will be collecting dust in the shoedio.

      lol sorry my bad! I was just replying to a lad of comments on my Speedgoat review! Yes the uppe ron the Superblast may make them get toasty on a triple digit day! I'm excited to see the SB2 in a few months, I'm hoping for an upper redesign. What did you not like about them in particular?

    • @Wings_nut
      @Wings_nut Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@trailandkale Practically every shoetuber reviews extolled the virtues of the SB. So, when I saw the discounted price, I picked it up for my long runs with workouts (fast finish, surges, etc.). However, it was just okay. Don't get me wrong, it's a comfy shoe for sure. The claimed uptempo benefits were not evident for me. Maybe I'm too light, and the SB works better for a heavier runner who would appreciate the bouncy response.

  • @jonathanwilliams2713

    Very good review of shoe. I currently don’t have a carbon race shoe, could you wear these for 5k and 10k races and have a PB in them? or are these more suitable for longer distances and training. Currently just own saucony endorphin speed 3 but notsure where these fit in a rotation (if not doing half marathons) or if should buy Nike vaporfly’s for races? Help 😂

    • @trailandkale
      @trailandkale  Před 2 měsíci +1

      You can totally race 5’s and 10’s. A few people have commented saying they have been getting great times in them once broken in fully. The endorphin speed 4 is a fantastic race day shoe for $170, I have a review of that coming in the next few days. The vaporfly is a really narrow shoe, and I don’t rate it unless you have narrow feet

    • @trailandkale
      @trailandkale  Před 2 měsíci +1

      The Hoka Rocket X2 is a much better alternative to the Vaporfly 3 👍🏼

  • @sts265
    @sts265 Před 3 měsíci +1

    For a slower first time marathoner (4-4:15) would you recommend going with something more supportive and comfy like the Superblast or go for a plated racer like the Saucony Endorphin Pro 4?

    • @trailandkale
      @trailandkale  Před 3 měsíci +1

      If you’re aiming for 4hr marathon I think you would get more enjoyment pushing the pace on race day with a super shoe like the Endorphin Pro, or other carbon fiber plated running shoes like the new balance SC Elite 4 (czcams.com/video/i9eotV45hJw/video.html) or the Hoka Cielo X1 who ch now more expensive but crazy good (czcams.com/video/eZsSWvC1XDs/video.html)

    • @charliipresley
      @charliipresley Před 2 měsíci +1

      I'm in the same boat. I want to do a marathon this year around the same pace. So tempted by the carbon plated super shoe, but don't know that i'll be going fast enough to get any benefit

    • @trailandkale
      @trailandkale  Před 2 měsíci

      You’ll definitely get some benefit at the pace but it’s really up to you as to weather you think the extra cost is worth the extra speed for and enjoyment of running that bit faster on your runs.

  • @charliipresley
    @charliipresley Před 2 měsíci

    would these pair well with the Asics Gel Nimbus or are they too similar? Wondering if Gel Nimbus and Metaspeed Edge would pair better... (thinking Gel Nimbus for longer slower runs and Metaspeed (or Superblast) for races /pushing pace)

    • @trailandkale
      @trailandkale  Před 2 měsíci

    Where I disagree: Don't size down! Of course I can only speak for myself but I wear a 12.5 in ES2, EP3, in fact all my Saucony, Hoka NIke shoes. I would say my foot is on the narrow side. I ordered TTS in the SuperBlast and worried the whole time they would be too big but no. Mildly volumous perhaps but not too long. Almost wish they were 1/4 inch longer in my right foot.

    • @trailandkale
      @trailandkale  Před měsícem +1

      Only a half size down.. I’ve been getting on fine with my usual sizing but I do wonder how a half size smaller may fair. They’re damn good though aren’t they!

    Very hard to find my size 11.5 even in japan where i bought mine for only 130usd. the only size available is a full inch up, 12.5 u.s. had to do the runners knot. No heel slippage. My feet is little wide so that helped a bit i suppose.

    I kinda hated these shoes in the first 30km or so. Once they broke in after about 60km it's my go to for most of my runs, currently at 300km with them. Once they broke in the runners knot is definitely not necessary!

    • @trailandkale

      Interesting! Thanks for sharing! So a better heel lock from a softer broken in upper?

    • @Kaisersozze
      @Kaisersozze Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@trailandkale Yup. The midsole is very stiff at first, I had heel slippage even just walking around when I first tried it on. Once the midsole breaks in and is able to bend more there was no issue with heel slippage even with a regular knot. Actually wonder how many shoes have this issue. Maybe a runners knot is only necessary during the break in period for most shoes if at all.

    That shoe is true to size for the majority of people. Doesn't requires a racers loop. That's only your personal preference. There's nothing about a trampoline effect(propaganda from ASICS). Its a good shoe but ain't worth 220€( price in Europe). I bought them at half price. I don't see myself buying it again at full retail price!

    • @trailandkale
      @trailandkale  Před měsícem +1

      Well yes it is my opinion, I’m the reviewer creating the reviews here, who else’s opinion would it be? That’s why people tune in, for my experienced opinions. I was using a racers loop because my pair needed to be a half size down, hence a recommendation to do so.

      @LuisRamos-qw1gj @LuisRamos-qw1gj No, you’re wrong there - some upper designs require a racers loop to lock your heel in place due to bad design.
