  • How to replace your #BMW window regulator and/or motor if your window is stuck, doesn’t go up or down or makes a crunchy noise when moving.
    Plus I explain how to “relearn” the window once replaced.
    I use a magic labour saving tool which makes the job 1000 times easier.
    I go over the costs (inc time) of doing this #DIY vs a main BMW dealer cost.
    This method will the the same, or very similar for many cars with frameless windows inc E92, F32,F33,F36,F44,F20,F21 plus my good old Mercedes R230 SL.
    Part number is:
    51357339592 Right front window lifter without motor
    bimmerstock.co.uk
    Tool used is from Laser:
    Laser 5842 Window Wrench - for BMW amzn.eu/d/iMJekh7
    Disclaimer: As with all my repair videos attempt this at your own risk. I have just shown how I did this repair and it is up to you whether you do this yourself on your own vehicle. I accept no responsibility.

    Thks great video and defo need the tool, tried with pump pliers and you really risk cracking the glass. Good ol BMW make it difficult to DIY cars like most these days...BTW worth getting a few spare doo card clips in case you break any, fragile plastic over time..

    Hi, this is a great guide. I used it to replace the regulator on my GF’s 116D. However the window is not level and I cannot see any adjustment except the lateral movement at the bottom of the rear track. In my case the window is not going all the way up to park behind the roof edge.

      Does your car have the same 2 sprockets as mine? The ones I used the special tool to loosen/tighten?

  • @alanprice2002
    @alanprice2002 Před 5 měsíci

    Please be aware I have the same make, model and year of car, my set up is slightly different, you do not need the special sprocket tool.
    If you can get your hand around the back of the glass from underneath inside, in the middle of the sprocket there's a hex bolt, just get a spanner on it.
    If the window is stuck down, remove drive motor via 3 nuts loosen rails and it should wiggle-slide up so you can get behind it👍 other wise the same, great video👍

      Thanks. In my case the tool took ages off the job plus its made it easier to adjust the window slightly afterwards👍 thanks for commenting, might help those who need to try this without the tool and have the window stuck open.

    I just replaced my regulator but the window doesn't want to go up all the way. It hits about 2/3 of the way up and then reverses automatically. If I i can get it to go up all the way by pressing the button in short bursts but the motor sounds like it is really struggling. Typically it stops responding and I have to pull fuses to get it going again. Any thoughts on what could be causing it to bind? Hoping it's not the motor...
    Edited to add that it also struggles on the way down from a fully raised position.

    • @autogaragelife
      @autogaragelife  Před rokem

      Have you tried the reset procedure? Normally open all the way and hold the button down for 5 seconds. Then all the way up and hold for 5 again? Unless of course you here any unwanted crunching noises?

    • @kazanjig
      @kazanjig Před rokem +1

      @@autogaragelife I did try the procedure -- that's when I hit this issue with the window not wanting to go up all the way. No crunching noises -- just the sound of a motor struggling with the last 1/3 of the raise. I may take everything out again (ugh) and spray some [[lithium]] __silicone__ grease on the regulator tracks but I have to imagine it's all pre-lubed.

      @@kazanjig ahh I see. If it was me I’d double check the fitment as you say. You might do more damage by keeping trying.

      @@autogaragelife Just found a thread online that this may not be an uncommon issue. Lube the tracks (silicone rather than lithium which can break down plastic/rubber), wax the window (yes, regular ol' body wax). Will give it a shot later on.

      Cant hurt. Hopefully that resolves it for you. I lubed the rubber seals on mine but as its frameless it worked with the door open no problem. Lubed the door seals in any case. Good luck and let me know if it works so others can see 👍

    Hi does anyone know if the window hook wrench is a standard size for all BMWs?? If not where can I get one for my F34

      Hi pal. Just wanted to let you know I had a go at this after work today and all went according to plan. Don’t think I’d have been able to do it without this video though so massive thank you pal! I reset everything and all seems to be working sweet. One question though I got it up to 60mph ont ring road going home and there was ever so slight noise, wasn’t a whistle as such but a small vibration/gap maybe. I had a proper look when I got home and the window touches the rubber seal at the bottom but at the top there’s like a 2 maybe 3mm gap. So I’m wondering if I loosen the window cogs with the tool and try pull the front up ever so slightly and retighten do you think that will work to bring it fully into line? Once again thank you very much for your time! 👍🏼

      @autogaragelife  Před rokem

      Great glad you got it fixed. Yes I had to adjust mine a bit as well. Just remove the lower trim, loosen the sprockets and move the glass up then tighten in place. Quite a bit of play in it. I judged the placement using the writing on the glass and compared to the other side. 👍
