It wasn’t that it he thought she was ugly it was the fact that so many things were changing at once and he didn’t like that cause he already doesn’t like change and he says in the episode that Amy his one constant changed. Penny eventually manages to help him understand that the change is a good thing. He thinks the world of Amy and would never think she’s ugly it was literally just due to the change cause so much happened immediately after they won the Nobel
Sheldon was historically not okay with changes. That's why he did not like it. But he would eventually get used to it and like it, because it would be the new normal.
Best fictional makeover ever. She still dresses conservatively and wears glasses, it's just a more modernized look now.
This is what happens when you introduce dramatic changes to a person with autism. He’s not saying Amy doesn’t look beautiful. He just got overwhelmed and shut down.

@@anthonynieto5307 Having worked with people and children on the spectrum I can assure you that Sheldon's character fit the definition of being on the spectrum perfectly.
And, I had a lot of people looking up to this character prooving to them that being on the spectrum is not prohibiting you from doing the things you love in your life.
@@livesouthernable it is different though. You can't control what genetics your child is born with but you can when you're creating a fictional character. If the writer's say he doesn't have autism then he isn't on the spectrum

In a weird way, I kinda interpreted this as Sheldon liking Amy the way she was rather than what society deemed beautiful. Ik Sheldon doesn’t like change but I like to be optimistic with him sometimes 😂😂
This reminds me of when Mayim was on What Not to Wear and she got the really cool circus ringleader type green blazer. Looked so chic on her. Classic lines are definitely her fit
I never understood why everyone tired to make out Amy was somehow ugly. I thought she was a very pretty girl.
Her great personality and intelligence shone on her face. She wasn't a classic beauty but she was beautifully ethnic.❤
I don't think anyone ever said she was ugly. She was somewhat overweight (for a supposed vegan, Mayim Bialik sure does know how to pack on the pounds) and wore frumpy clothes and a frumpy hairstyle.
@odysseusrex5908 you should see some of the comments on the video where a email from Amy got Bernadettes magazine article pulled. Everyone accused her of being jealous because they think Bernadette is more attractive than Amy. I personally think they both look good.
@@samhaigh5355 I would agree that Bernadette is much more attractive than Amy, but that doesn't mean Amy is in any way unattractive. Penny is way more attractive than Bernadette. Also, in the admittedly limited amount of the show I have seen, I never saw Amy express that kind of jealousy. She was always just happy to finally be friends with the "cool kids".
I don't think it was about her being ugly. It was about how she presented herself. And trying to instill confidence in her. The thing about beauty is confidence is at least 50% of it. Look at the difference in Chris Pine's 2 different egos in "Don't worry darling" 2 different views of himself resulted in 2 different depictions of himself.
If you guys watched Young Sheldon, this Sheldon you would understand much better.
Sheldon is just being autistic. We don't like changes, or at least many changes all at once. It throws us off balance and we most likely react badly to it, because it takes time for us to accept it.
He doesn't have to be an asshole about it, though. Plenty of people who have autism are taught from a young age they don't get to be rude or abusive if they're experiencing anxiety or stress.

There is a valid reason why Sheldon doesn't like change.
Sheldon's friends went through a lot being with him. It's still amazing how he has grown over the years though.

As an autistic person, I can relate to Sheldon here. I don't like change as a general rule, especially when it's dramatic and unexpected. So I have some sympathy for him.

Because change isn't something everyone likes to deal with. It takes me a couple days, maybe a couple of weeks to get used to something new. Anytime my husband shaves I'm a bit iffy about it. I don't like the change. And I most certainly hate the inbetween when his beard is a brillo pad.
I must be aware of something changing, but even knowing something in my routine or etc is changing, I get anxious for weeks before hand and weeks after. I can tell myself I'm being stupid all I want, and I KNOW I am, but that doesn't change the fact that I hate it and I'm disgruntled about it.
Raj did a better job than Penny though dont know what they expected knowing how much trouble sheldon has dealing with change. Also add in the fact he thought she was good the way she was

My mom always used to say when I was younger and we’d watch this show that I was exactly like Sheldon and maybe the autism diagnosis my psychologist suggested was correct. I was 14 and at this point my classmates used the word autistic as a derogatory slur. It was like her calling me the worst thing in the world. I vehemently refuted any and all notion of such a thing. Now I’m an adult and can view my behaviours more objectively than subjectively I can see she was 100% right. For me one change in my day or routine is bad enough but another big change just sends me spiralling and I can come across and cold or mean just like Shelly does here. It’s so hard!
