      @@Robobagpiper Hi, not sure what you mean by confusing?

    • @shamrockballs1066
      @shamrockballs1066 Před 5 lety +2

      @@Robobagpiper Ok, well Ill try and explain what is my understanding of two albums, which was indeed innovative at the time.
      If you go back 14 years before Batman, big blockbusters like Jaws, Rocky, Star Wars, Superman, Alien had soundtrack albums released to accompany the release of the movies. These movies were heavily scored and had little songs in them. So it was the composers work that was released and who can blame them. Each movie i mentioned above are instantly recognisable through music alone! However the concept album started to change in the mid 80s (possibly because of Purple Rain, however there had been soundtrack albums for Saturday Night Fever and Grease, but maybe MTV had something to do with it also) where upon soundtrack albums were basically made up of songs featured in the movie with possibly one or two tracks made up of the score by the composer. Take for example Ghostbusters, Beverly Hill Cop or Back to the future. Not every movie being released at this time had movie scores released on albums and it seemed to be a fading trend in favour of more pop sounding soundtracks.
      When the producers heard Danny Elfmans score for Batman they loved it that much (and rightly so, its one of the best scores of all time), they exclaimed that a full soundtrack album would be produced and released to the public. Then Prince comes along who was only expected to produce a couple of songs for the movie. Probably to be added on to Elfmans album... But he produces 9 songs! From what I know Burton was leaned on to use all 9 songs where he could in the movie. Obviously, this wasnt viable. You can hear 3 songs in the background in the movie. Partyman and Trust are promenant and scandalous is played at the end credits. 2 was not used and the last Batdance was used to heavily promote the movie long before its release. With the 9 songs by Prince it was an opportunity for WB to cash in on two different soundtrack albums!
      I understand that the confusion may stem from the fact that Elfman was not that well known in 1989 and people thought Prince scored the movie. But it was definately a way for WB to market the movie long before release and get a big buzz going because Prince was a super star at the time.

      @darthXreven Před 5 lety

      @@shamrockballs1066 also you had situations like Blade Runner where they didn't even release Vangellis's score, they released an inferior cover score which never sold well....they later released a 1 disc collection of music which was just the main themes from the movie and it was Vangellis's stuff, that sold pretty well
      then when they did Final Cut they released a 2-3 disc set which was the disc I just mentioned and the rest of the composed music
      even the SW soundtracks were never released in their entirety until the special editions.....and still some of the older versions of the soundtracks didn't include so me key songs like Lapti Nek from ROTJ [the song Oola dances to] and that song is still one of the hardest to find.....ugh
      the score for Total Recall omits the song from Last Resort.....eh
      and even now they still omit stuff from scores and soundtracks and it''s always the weird off the wall song you kinda want lol

    It would have been fascinating to see these two working together! Prince is a child musical prodigy and shrewd business man (could be eccentric and glom onto things) and MJ was a child music star a certified IQ genius and shrewd businessman (he waited years to reveal his Moonwalk move at just the right time as just one example) and could also be eccentric. Prince did what he wanted (his follow up to Purple Rain was not the rock album people figured he would do!) and MJ was more the cunning creator of the modern idea of POP.
    Therefore having MJ play the hero part and Prince the Joker part sounds absolutely fascinating! I have no idea what either artist felt for the other, but I am sure they would both appreciate each other's works and they both got tired of the yoke of big music industry and both got caught up in self-harming through meds! Meaning they were different but seem to have similarities.
    Now I want to research if either of them spoke of the other...

The whole idea of Bad (and we are te world( was ridiculous. Prince never ever supported MJ in any press interview about the abuse allegation, he was asked once "who will win in a fight?", he did a very Prince answer, avoiding the topic with cryptic messages, like "let's wait and see, may be he knows something that we don't", in my view, he actually adressed the MJ controversy out of the blue, not supporting him, putting him on the spot. The song quote “And I ain’t never had my nose done. Thats the other guy.” that's a lyric and fact, still he don't mention names, I don't see any problem with that. Yeah, Prince covered a lot of 70s songs, from Glam Rock, classic rock, Punk and Motown. he was a teen of the 70s. That doesn't mean anything. Please stop it. Aaron Soto with all due respect to you as well, you’re presenting somewhat of a red herring argument. I said they envied each other and admired each other. You started arguing something about “publicly” which I never stated. But yes lyrics absolutely count as publicly and “that’s the other guy” is clearly directed at Michael Jackson. One would have to be willfully ignorant to assume otherwise. But again several ppl have spoken about Prince showing disdain for Michael. One example is Will.I.Am speaking on Prince trolling Michael by playing the bass in his face. And I’ve heard several ppl corroborate it. But I guess you could say everyone’s just making it up. There are plenty of other stories, but again, I didn’t say anything about “publicly”. You added that condition to support your argument.

    I really loved the soundtrack. If I had to pick a face, it would probably be Electric Chair. But I also love the Batdance Vicki Vale mix on the B-side of Batdance. Batdance always had a second-tier effort sound to me, like Trust. But the funky Vicki Vale portion is a fun dance part. He just made the whole song from that section in the Vicki Vale mix.

  • @peppermintspacecapsule9898

    I absolutely love the 1940s BATMAN & ROBIN serials and the '60s BATMAN too, and of course the SUPERMAN films, but the impact of the 1989 BATMAN cannot be overstated; it was the FIRST film to show us that a superhero did NOT need to be someone in tights and trunks. Batman was armoured, realistic, and believable, and therefore the father of the X-Men, the Avengers, and every superhero film and TV show to come since. For those who weren't born in 1989, let me tell you, Batman was EVERYWHERE; at the cinema, at the comic shops (remember those?), on TV, on the radio, in the toy shops and hobby shops, in our videogames and in the arcades, and on every news-stand and in every newspaper. Nothing that followed would have enjoyed the successes we've seen if BATMAN 1989 hadn't done it first. :)

    Either way, "The end is the beginning The end" is still my favorite batman song. With "Hold me, Thrill me, Kiss me, Kill me" as a close second. Billiy's song is so good it was even used as un-official theme song for the watchmen movie! Billy corgan once said that he wanted to make a video for the watchmen movie but apparently nothing came out of it or at least I think so.

    I was born in 1989 y basically this is the first thing I heard from Prince. The first time I watched the movie I was maybe 3 or 4 years old and I also watched the music video of the Batdance at that age. It was so scary, Prince used to scare me so much ... but at the same time it was amazing, I love that song and all the Batman Album and as I grew I appreciate his other songs and got my obsession with the color purple (yes, this is true). Maybe because of that I am a bit more fan of MJ. I'm not the biggest Prince fan but I respect and admire him a lot. Always in our ❤💕

    Would Micheal Jackson and/or Prince have been as big of a hit, or bigger? I don't know, man! That's like asking if horses would run faster if they had six legs. There's just no way for me to imagine it fully enough to make a realistic estimate. Everything Michael Jackson did back then was a hit, so if he had been involved with the Batman soundtrack it would probably have been successful too. As for Prince and Micheal doing a duet... Maybe? I can't even guess how those two might have sparked off each other, or not gotten along. Anything could have happened.
    But back in real history, Prince was an amazing success with his Batman album. I'd never heard his music before, but it worked perfectly with the film. Even now hearing "Batdance" takes me right back to that movie in a way no other song does, except maybe John William's Star Wars theme.

    Scandalous is my favorite song on the Batman Soundtrack. Michael Jackson doing the Batman songs and Prince doing the Joker songs would have been interesting. Probably was the best opportunity for the 2 top artists of the 80's to collaborate. Sad it didn't happen. O(+>

  • @creditorclass6513
    @creditorclass6513 Před 2 lety

    Quincy tried to bring them together 3 years earlier but it was too territorial and Prince would never consent to being utilized as an instrument of Jackson and Jones. The We Are The World session was a similar situation with Prince the ultimate do it all artist taking direction from Jackson and Lionel Richie. Batman was perfect, the bone that 2 Alpha Dogs could share. I can hear MJ singing Arms of Orion in Bruce Wayne attire to rival Prince's Joker persona doing Partyman. They can have the direct confrontation everyone wanted through fictional characters to close out the decade they battled together. Who knows, maybe a loose working relationship establishes itself through the 90's. Both were known for the uncredited assist like Prince playing guitar on Madonna's Like A Prayer and MJ singing backup for the Doobie Brothers. Maybe we spend the 90's arguing about who won the Batman Soundtrack and certain parts of the twos future output are uncredited cameos for one another. They could have went into the 90's with a more solidified front to at least ward off gangsta rap and grunge.

      @Midnight's Edge After Dark Main reason why I brought it up because Batman 89 has become another example of a film where they alter the movie and don't care about the preservation of how a film was in the theaters originally and have that mentality that because it's new automatically makes it better. If you are going to George Lucasise the soundmix, at least offer both in really good quality, because on top of that even if they include the original soundmix of a film on Blu Ray, it doesn't even sound as good as a Laserdisc LOL!
