Federer may one day lose certain records (grand slams, week at #1, etc) but he's absolutely the 'father' of 21st century tennis. He kick started, unintentionally, a massive boom period because of his playing style, unmatched success(es), and two-decades-long consistency - not to mention what a nice freakin' guy, too.
Those that follow(ed) whether from a 1/2 generation later (nadal, novak, murray, delpo) to the next genners we see today all play to reach the same level of fame, accomplishment, and popularity.. the aforementioned names are his de facto 'children' (and next gen 'grandchildren') in a sports world that moves ever-so quickly around the entire planet.
Glad I'm alive to see such a living sports legend :)

Yup, now hes a doctor.
He wasn‘t really good in school and didn‘t like the time there at all. It‘s said in his biography. Then again, he also was so eager to play tennis the whole time. Guess this is essential to become a true champ. And thankfully he is very nice and very eloquent nevertheless.
Well in Switzerland its normal to 'quit' school at 16. After that you can choose if you want to learn a profession or going to a highschool. And I guess Roger was already alot travelling for junior tourments in his -16 school time.
Most sportsmen don't go to university or college for a degree because once they're already at an age where they're starting out on their sports career.

its because Basel is next to french-german borders, and his parents talked to him in english, when he was kid.
And even Spanish and Swiss German(I don’t think it is a lot different than German. Correct me if I’m wrong)
His mother is South African, that’s why he speaks English too.

Roger is greatest sports person ever. His accomplishments, popularity and personal appearance on and off the court made him most loveable athlete of all time in history of sports. I just give one example. Sachin is most popular player in cricketing countries like India. But Sachin admired so much Federer who was making his name since 2003. Where as Sachin was god status in 1990s.

TBH I started watching Tennis vigorously due to Roger and Rafa.....
only story for fedsqaush he got the goldilocks era of tennis 2003-2009 sampara,agassi leaving , fed got lots of court time,experience, and won 15 slams..50% of the finals the opponents were ranked 10 and up..once nadal.djoki,murray,wawarinka got a lot better fedsqaush wilted and only won5 slams over 13 years!!
