Please don't post skits like this my daughter saw this and asked if its true, I work at a grocery we would be fired for this. Next time think about what you post. There are womens shelters that can help with this, weather you ate homeless or not!
Omg holly i saw you in the cineworld ad before the new spiderman moviee!! me and my brother both got excited and looked at eachother and we were like "omg i follow her" and we just got really excited Congratss aaaa
@@Ava-809 omg im glad you live in a magical world let me spell it out for you. When I was young and alone, I was homeless in Muncie Indiana. I've shop lifted for essentials. My daughter saw this video and figured she could steal stuff we can't afford. I explained to her that's not ok. My point is this kind of look at me im so nice I would totally just look the other way stuff is bogus. No one looked the other way when I actually took things weather I needed them or not. Life is not butterflies and rainbows. Life is not a skit.
Once when I was living with my ex I was so so broke. I went to my local drug store and put a small box of tampons and a granola bar (lunch) on the counter and my card declined. The guy behind the counter just said “take it.” I was like are you sure?? He said “of course.” I went into my car and just cried out of sheer gratitude and relief
When I worked at the local dollar store, I had a stash of already paid for feminine products and diapers that I would give to people if they were stealing them. I did tell most of them that if they needed them again and were unable to pay, they just had to ask. A few girls came in every month, and this one poor single father had to come in for diapers every week for 2 months cuz he lost his job. He was so embarrassed, but when he got a job at the grocery store and saw me come in, he was absolutely beaming and told me about how he could afford to buy diapers now.
I work at a self checkout and I witnessed a woman pay for a teen's lady products because the teen didn't have the money to buy them. Sweetest thing I'd ever seen
I used to work a lot at a grocery store during the height of the pandemic. Baby products, lady products, some food, and medicine we all just looked away. 1.) They don’t pay us enough to care. 2.) Stealing normally comes from a place of desperation, especially if they’re those products. Unlike big corporations who mark up the prices of these products to something ridiculous, I have a heart.
@@FrighteningFettuccinethese companies are making record profits right now. record profits!! food and gas retailers cried "wha the pandemic" and arbitrarily raised their prices while people weren't working. prices are not high because people are stealing, people are stealing because prices are high.
@@FrighteningFettuccineno it's not and if you genuinely believe this you have been fooled by capitalist propaganda. These products are a human necessity and should be free. Just like water and food. The reason the prices are so high is because they are so needed that people will pay practically any price because there is no alternative. The same reason why housing is so expensive as well.
I was working at a corporate (rhymes with WoodGill) secondhand store while in college. This lady came in, crying, with a shirt wrapped around her waist. She looked soooo embarrassed and sad. Everyone kept grabbing me to tell me they thought she was gonna steal as she stared at the pants. I go up to her, ask if I can help. She asks me if we can talk away from other customers, so we go towards the side of the store with no one there, where she explains that she's been very sick and had an accident and needed pants. I asked her about her size, grabbed her a pair, and gave them to her. I told management it could come out of my check if needed. Sometimes all we need is some humanity towards our fellow people.
This is why I would carry extra clothing items and fem products in highschoool. Girls knew I kept my backpack full of useful things and I liked to help when I could. Especially after the school removed all the little vending machines with products in them (because people would just break them open an steal them)
My mom worked at a bar on the weekends when I was in high school, one day an older lady came in rushed to the restroom after a while my mom went to go check on her and she had had an accident because no other shop around would let her use their restroom. My mom had my step dad bring items to help her clean up and extra clothes. The lady was so grateful that she brought my mom the pants and a gift basket the next day. My mom didn't expect anything just wanted to help her out.
I saw a woman in court. She was elderly and was caught shoplifting cat food. She doesn’t have a cat, she was eating it to survive and she felt bad about stealing human/people food so she stole cat food. I was in tears and the judge looked disgusted that she was even there and he told her that. He apologized and dropped everything and told her that he had a social worker that will work with her to get her somewhere safe where she can be treated like a human being. Edit: 3.1k!!
@@iloveappleslalalanot true, unfortunately. Years ago I was prosecuted by Walmart after paying for $250 worth of groceries/items, and trying to walk out, accidentally, with 2 small items unpaid in the cup holder section of my baby’s stroller I commonly used as my “cart” that had a basket underneath. It was two makeup items and since it was just over $25, they took me to court for petit LARCENY! I was a new mom, maybe 20? And I was TERRIFIED. Wouldn’t allow me to pay for them or put them back despite the receipt in my hand and arms full of bags. No arrest, but still had to go to court, where they lowered it to “trespassing.” So, I still had to go to court over less than a $30 “whoops” moment, and have that fun misdemeanor on my record to explain.
@@iloveappleslalala This is definitely not a true fact. Like, at all. This is just flat out not true. The Dollar Tree I worked at where everything was $1 prosecuted for $1 all the time. This is just a flat-out falsehood. We had signs up about shoplifting asking if you REALLY wanted to go to jail over $1. Because that's what you're looking at. It can be up to 3 years in the county jail. I never saw shit, of course, I made minimum wage and gave no fucks, but I was amazed at how many people stole from the Dollar Tree. What's at the Dollar Tree you need bad enough to risk arrest?
@@amhoneyyy8021That’s awful. I wish people would actually listen to the situation. Yes people lie but you literally had arms full of grocery bags and a child. Of course you probably forgot something. Same thing happened to my mom when my brother really wanted a candy bar and walked with it. Fortunately the lady at front had a laugh about it and let us put it back
@@iloveappleslalalaNot where I live and probably not anywhere else. For me, stealing over $300 is when your misdemeanor turns into a felony… A misdemeanor can have explanations, but a felony is very difficult to explain. It’s like the difference between saying you started a bonfire for a party and it caught only your yard tree on fire versus it spreading to the forest behind your neighborhood. One thing is a small little accident although not good and the other looks like a big mess.
@@aaroncousins4750(I dont really want to argue or something) they shouldnt be free in shops but there should atleast be some free poor-quality pads in public bathrooms like there is poor-quality toilet paper, a cheap pad is always better than no pad
@kashimea_ Not to argue but economics wise this wouldnt work AT ALL. Thats why Americans are charges for not having healthcare bec they pay for the healthcare of poor ppl while also being charged for not having it themselves. Public restrooms are not free. They are funded by some entity, someone is paying for the toilet paper in public restrooms. If you make pads free then other products would rise in price to offset the losses meaning toilet paper and other products like shampoo would skyrocket. Idk how ppl just spew nonsese out their mouths without thinking “whos paying for this actually?” Bec usually one way or another YOU PAY FOR IT.
@@RC-rg3vz I know that things in public restrooms dont just spawn. I dont mean for pads to be free but for them to be like toilet paper in e.g. a shopping mall's restroom. People shopping in said shopping mall would technically pay for that but e.g. a struggling person could come and do whats necessary when needed without really paying. I wont reply anymore I hope you understand
I’ve been in many situations where I’ve pulled a few strings to make sure someone is able to pay for their order. You can tell when someone is struggling and feels embarrassed for not being able to afford everything that was scanned. Either I’ll pay for it myself if it’s a larger item or I will let them take it if it’s a smaller item. They are always so gracious and are the kindest people I ever have in my lines. I can’t imagine denying someone something like tampons or baby food (etc) if they are only a few dollars off (or even if it’s more than that). I know the huge corporate company I work for will be fine losing a few bucks and I won’t get fired so there is no reason not to
And yet they have luxury tax (in the US). As if we choose to have the luxurious experience of bleeding out of our vaginas every month I would also like to point out that toilet paper does not have luxury tax
@@ckdraws410 I bet if men bled for a week out of every month, period products would be free 🙄 I'm just going to edit this because I'm sick of having the same conversation over and over again. THIS IS A JOKE. If you can't take it, you know what you can do.
I wish period products like pads & tampons would be free, and that every customer is allowed to buy 2 packs of period products, so they won't get out of stock.
This reminds me of a time when I worked at dollar general. A guy walked up with a little wicker basket full of stuff (mostly canned goods and powdered potatoes) and I scanned the basket and then he very quietly and embarrassedly asked me if I would just let him have the rest, because he only had $7 and needed to feed his kids. Things like this break my heart, and I hate that people could get in trouble just because they can't afford basic necessities
I have been helped in the past too - I wasn’t in his situation, I just forgot my wallet for a very very small purchase - but I will never forget the lady who helped me. All she wanted in return was to “pay it forward”.
i used to have a customer who would come in and take an item off the shelf to do a return. without a receipt, you can only get store credit, so he couldn’t use it to go buy drugs or anything, but my manager knew and was still angry about it. but i noticed that every time he got away with it, all he would buy was a pack of cookies or a granola bar and a small bottle of milk and i came to realize he was homeless. after that, if my manger wasn’t there, it became a “i didn’t see anything” policy for me, i would do the return, give him his store credit, and let him buy his food. it was a giant chain store that already accounts for losses so i’m not sorry about it either. anytime i saw anyone take food, drinks, medicine, baby/feminine products i was suddenly blind even if they were reselling, it wasn’t rlly any of my business. if you haven’t been poor enough to consider stealing, u don’t get a say in this discussion 🤷🏻♀️
And that’s one reason why groceries are so expensive for those who do pay. You don’t think stores adjust their prices to account for all the stealing happening these days?
The management at my store says if we see someone stealing pads, let them. That's a matter of human decency. People steal plenty of other things from us to be mad about.
I’ve actually had to do this. Obviously not proud of it, but in college I was so poor, I went to CVS and took a few tampons out of a box and put them in my pocket. I didn’t have money for food, or basic needs. No family to help me. That was about 13 years ago, and I still remember feeling so shameful. I’m thankfully working a six figure job now, and living a happy life! I try to pay it forward with service and generous giving where I can!
Don’t be ashamed. You has to do what you had to do! I’m so happy you were able to start living a better lifestyle! Besides, most college kids are broke as 🦆 so you can’t have been the only one to do this
I have helped a woman who was planning to steal sanitary items before. I noticed her and she was being so obvious I knew staff were suspicious of her and she wouldn’t have gotten away with them. I asked her if she needed help and I was happy to buy her them as long as she is happy to wait for me to get my things also. She explained to me that she had just been sexually assaulted and was bleeding a lot and didn’t have the money for them. As a survivor of rape myself I understood. She said she was struggling to put food on the table and usually uses a moon cup on her period but tried and couldn’t as it was too painful and it wasn’t period blood. I feel like I did a good thing that day and we are now friends. ❤
I worked at a grocery store back in the early 2000s and witnessed a woman opening the baby formula and dumping it in a bag in her purse. I just looked the other way. I'm not gonna go after a mother struggling to feed her baby
How do you know she's struggling?? She could just be a thief who doesn't want to pay Also, if you can't afford baby formula then maybe having a child wasn't the best idea. You can get help with literally anything you need. Stealing is never ok
@Jamie good to know that reading your comment shows what type of person you are.. I knew because I k ow what to look for as I struggled myself. Maybe grow a soul and some compassion before opening your mouth about something you don't understand again.
@Jamie-hb9gn much as it might make you a better person, I still hope you never reach the point where you would understand. Poverty is insidious and can be sudden. Someday you might find out what it's like. And you'll curse yourself for the judgment you ignorantly insist upon now.
When I worked at a CVS, I had a small group of teenage girls come in, and one of them asked if we sold any pads in just singles because she was out with some friends and she didn't want the guys in her group to know she was buying pads. We didn't have singles, so I gave her one from my own purse. I don't even use pads and that girl made me glad I decided to carry one around just in case. Periods suck, but at least we can have each other's backs in these situations
The fact the females have to hide having periods from the males in the society in itself is disturbing, I feel like sometimes people forget that we are not some minorities asking for awareness to spread but rather 50% of the entire population smh.
@@solar0windhonestly i have no idea why but i used to be so embarrassed about my period, probably even till i was about 18, would feel so weird even asking a female friend for a pad or anything. my mam used to buy my period products, i never had to until i left home for uni at 19 and even then i felt soooo awkward buying pads, glad i don’t have this shame any more.
@@solar0windit has to do with the overall reaction to this sort of topic from the society. Many people find it something «embarrassing». My male classmates used to joke about it all the time
If I saw someone steal some tampons, I might've done a double take, but I wouldnt say anything. I've BEEN that poor. Hell, the other day, I had to decide between the right kind of pads and some groceries. I firmly believe that if you really need the essentials but don't have the money that it is fine to steal.
I once worked at a grocery store that had a secret policy of not reporting or acting on people stealing food. It obviously wasn't advertised, but even if someone just walked out with a cart full of food, they weren't getting reported. This same store chain donates food to food banks and donates to charity regularly. They have built themselves up as an integral part of the community. The only reason I won't say the store name is so people don't get ideas 😅
It’s good that you don’t say it, but it’s refreshing knowing that this kind of place exists. People should be able to have their basic needs met. I’ve been in that place, and the shame and guilt are enormous.
@@karmica7591 I have also been in that place, I know how it feels. People don't tend to steal necessities because they think it's fun, you're just trying to survive. It's not something I suggest or would promote, but I do think it's at least justifiable.
@Mewmew Agreed but it depends on the context... If it's necessities then I think it's okay within limits ofc. But like if it's a ton of candy or shit like that then they should get reported.
I've only a stolen a handful of times in my life and some of it was really stupid teenage stuff wanting a snack or batteries and being told not to waste my money so I just took it instead which I regret but the last time I stole I was in Walmart and I took a $1 hotdog because I was just so hungry. Id been homeless and went across town just to go to the store to sell a broken phone that turned out to be worth nothing so I had to steal to eat that day. Still feel ashamed about it sometimes
I used to work at a gas station and one day one of our regular customers came in crying. We all knew she and her kids had a tough time making ends meet, despite her working as much as she could (her small business did not survive the COVID lockdowns and they were completely broke and paying of debtors via the government). Anyway, the lady is at the register, crying her eyes out, and asks my boss if she can get €10 worth of petrol today and pay it on Monday, because her youngest is sick and needs to go to the Emergency Room and she has no more money until her check on Monday (this happend on a Friday evening)… And my boss goes: “I’m sorry, but that’s against policy and might get us in trouble. So unfortunately we can’t help you.” And I got so mad, because at least twice a week we had someone fill up their tank and then just drive away without paying and we’d fill out a form and send them all in to the insurance company at the end of the month if they still hadn’t payed and that would be that… But this lady asked, only due to an emergency, and will come back to pay on Monday (and she would, I saw her every week and she lived about 4 streets down) and we couldn’t help her? What the actual fuck?!?! So I told her to never mind him, to go and put €15 worth of petrol in her car to make sure she would have enough going back and forth a few times if necessary and that I would pay for it and that she better not try and pay me back either! And she cried even harder, but went and did that while I made her a tea to go and got her a pack of tissues. My boss told me I was a fool and was being scammed, but honestly he was just being a dick… Turns out her kid had acute appendicitis and the appendix had ruptured and the poor kid had to have emergency surgery immediately…
the boss was really afraid that a _regular customer_ - someone he personally knew - would try to scam him ... for just 10€? Does that make sense at all?
I literally just saw my local gas station let a man pay them back for $20 of gas a few days later. I live in the area and I’ve never seen him, but they’re a privately owned Citgo and they seem like pretty decent people. I can’t imagine disliking humans so much that you can’t even help a mother with a sick baby, whether that’s true or not why would you risk it?
remember kids, almost every store has a “no chase” policy where they would rather have employees simply report a theft rather than try to stop the person. if you see someone taking food, menstrual products, etc, leave them alone and report it later… or conveniently forget
I’d walk up to her and ask if I could buy her some tampons, and anything else she needs today. What we really need are robust social services so that no one has to go through the pain and shame of needing something they cannot afford.
I once saw a young woman looking at feminine products. My coworker told me to keep an eye on her as she looked like she’d might steal something. I wandered over and asked if she needed any help, which she denied. After a few minutes, she slipped a box of tampons into her pocket. The store I worked at knew me for having a good eye and I would catch people who would steal things, but I never told on her or any other woman who stole feminine products. If it was a necessity, then there was a reason someone would steal it. I wasn’t going to deprive someone from a necessity.
@@YSF_B28if she stood there for a moment like the commenter said she was probably feeling guilty or scared about it, you don't know her or what was happening smh
Remember: if you see someone steal a necessity, no you didn't :) To clarify: from chain businesses. Sorry that my singular sentence didn't cover all instances that might happen
I have seen this when I when I worked big lots a young lady was caught steeling deodorant and the manager took her in the back and gave her money from her own personal pocketbook, and offered to give her a job.
bull. if anything don't allow it and ask them if they need help .people that don't question are part if the problem . could be someone in a abusive relationship or parents could be struggling . maybe you might be the way they get help .could also be abducted kid trying to get attention to get help
I worked in a grocery store for years. I always turned a blind eye when people would steal necessities. I also grew up in the hood...you never saw or heard a damn thing!
I have literally told people to take things like ramen and water from my gas station. My boss has called me on it a couple times, but I always pay the $2 and change out of my own pocket when they do, and since it’s only once every few months or so they’ve just given up on trying to get me to stop.
I work for a very rich family who owns chains of gas stations all over New England but they live close to mine and come in sometimes. Ive had children just want a fountain soda, I’ve had super high teens who just want water but forgot their money, I’ve had elderly who don’t make enough for a simple snack when they get out of work. I cover it all. And sometimes I let it go. This world is shit and people need things sometimes regardless if they can pay. Let the owners try to call me out, they have fucking private healthcare and multiple homes. Don’t you dare be stingy with money that could be paying for hundreds of families livelihoods.
Stealing is still stealing; it shouldn't be allowed. I work in the food industry at the moment, and if someone's card declined on a small purchase I wouldn't let them just take it. But I may be willing to pay for their order if it was something I thought they needed! Human kindness will go a lot further than allowing someone to steal and potentially get in trouble.
I've several times helped over women when it comes to baby products, formula, period products, etc. Once I was watching a manager confront a woman who had put formula in her bag. I walked over to her & started talking as if I was with her "oh is that too heavy for you? Go ahead & put it in the cart." The manager tried to tell me to butt out & I just said I was with her, she just couldn't hold the formula with the other things she had. The manager left us be & I told her to get anything else she needed then helped pay for her items & get them out to her car. She was crying so much & I could tell that all she needed was a bit of help. I'll continue to help as much as possible because certain things it shouldn't be shammed for needing to steal.
Yeah, I understand that, and I’m a woman too. But other necessary items aren’t free. Toilet paper. Food. And some places water. Why are period products different?
@@elephant1871 ok so clearly u do not understand, also in almost every place u go besides your own home toilet paper is free to u and yes good isn’t free but it can be gifted out and some kind people donate, period products have never had the same rep, no place has ever given free products for periods, so I believe we should have free period products so it can become a social norm

Do you ever notice the prices of tampons, pads, and other similar products? They can be quite expensive! Food, medication, and numerous other items also have high costs. While I understand that it's not appropriate to steal, especially feminine products, I find it hard to comprehend why people are upset when someone is in need and doesn't have access to these essentials. Edit: I didn’t mean for a fight to break out
period products are definitely expensive, but i think just “looking the other way” isn’t the best route to go. no matter what financial state their in right now, it’s still stealing. in this situation, i think it would be better to just buy the product for them.
@@babyalivegirl8779 No, I'm a woman. There's a ton of things out there that are expensive, food included. Does that give you the right to actively take it from someone? No. Stealing is never justified, as much as you might want it to be. Cuz once you go down that road, where do you draw a line? I have a job, but do I get to steal food if I'm out of money?
I work in retail and there is a couple homeless men and women that come into my store. The woman normally only comes in when she needs feminine products. I turn a blind eye when she walks out with them or pay for her products. She's always extremely grateful and I normally buy her some food and drinks as well. The man that comes in and steals, only steals soap, a drink, and some food. I only stop people from stealing if it's stuff that you don't need to survive (hair clips, toys, random impulse buys, etc) I can't in good conscience stop someone from stealing the things they need to survive.
I once worked retail, and there was a drive for a relief program and they just said "Hygiene products". Being that I worked at the store I saw what was being bought, so at the end of my shift I bought a few boxes of tampons, and pads and brought to the donation truck. I kid you not, the assholes there would not take them because they were..and I QUOTE, "We don't need this, we aren't taking these, no these aren't necessary products." Then I asked them if they had a supply of pads and tampons going to the relief and they said, "Only necessary items." I asked if baby and adult diapers were needed, they said "Yes." and then I asked "Then why aren't PADS AND TAMPONS?!?!?" they just recited that they weren't needed.
As a homeless woman, most hotel lobby bathrooms leave a bowl of them out. Hampton a and hiltons, nicer ones. If you can wear a hat and coat you can likely make it to the bathroom atleast once. The local one was nice enough to let me eat the free breakfast for about a month also.
My daughter was bringing pads to work and leaving a couple in the bathroom. I told her to bring a whole stack just in case someone else one. She now keeps a stash in the bathroom at work so if another employee or customer needs one they're there.
Someone (probably a student) left a toiletrie bag of them in the bathroom at my old community college. I was never short on them, but it was really nice to see.
I mean, if it’s from a small business ran by good people, I’d probably tell em to stop or just pay for them, but if it’s from a money hungry business such as walmart, yea, you turn your ass around and continue as if nothing happened
All my family’s life we’ve been on food stamps. One month a while back we had no food stamps left but we’re out of bread, cheese and juice (for my toddler siblings) so I turned in my cans at a close by gas station. Now, I only got like 10$ and was hoping that could at least cover bread and cheese and maybe a small thing of juice. When I was checking out the cashier asked me why just these things(I normally came it and got snacks or soda.) and I told her we didn’t really have any other food in the house and the money was going twards that and the juice was for the little kids. She said “no. I’ll pay for these. You keep your money for later or incase you need more food” and she paid for a thing of juice, one loaf of bread and 2 things of cheese and a single soda(that was for me and my sister to share) and at the time I was embarrassed to take help but now… I just feel happy to know that people will help if they know the need. (My mom was watching the kids and my sister was helping. And my step father was at work as we don’t earn enough to afford food and rent and other utilities that’s why we get food stamps.)
We've been on foodstamps for around a little less than half my life (we SHOULD have gotten it sooner... went hungry many times) but unfortunately the government is giving us less foodstamps so we run out quicker :(
In the uk, we have a “white bag scheme” and if you go into supermarket or beauty supply stores or pharmacies, you can ask for one and they will give you a bag full of sanitary products. You can specify which ones you need but they are more than happy to give it to you and ITS FREE! It’s a great thing because we didn’t have it a few years back so I’m really glad people have it now! We also have supplies at food banks and some government offices like the job centre and citizen’s advice.
Aren't period products also available for free in schools, universities and government buildings? Or is that just in Scotland? I love how the UK is battling period poverty.
The UK's response to period poverty makes me cry every time I see it brought up. I WISH the US could be this open. It's expensive. I am trans and it makes me feel awful every time I have to buy them because not only is it expensive, it's a massive slap in the face that my body and mind are not the same gender.
this is the exact reason i carry some in my backpack for school. though my family might not be very rich i know some families have a situation where they cannot buy some. carrying tampons, pads & liners have been so helpful for girls.
One time I had to do this, and I got scared because a male worker came up to me (He was around my age about 16-17) he tapped my shoulder while secretly trying to hand me back the pad to put in my pocket that I dropped on the floor, I said thank you, he smiled, walked away, and acted like nothing happened, and I was sooo grateful for that.
When I worked at CVS it was really common for tampon boxes to get damaged in shipping. I would damage them all out and keep some in the restroom in case anyone needed one. I even had a sign that said to take some if you needed extras. People were generally respectful of it and more than a few people were super grateful.
Lmfao I used to do this at a Target I worked at. I was a worker, so people wouldn't bat an eye if they saw me messing with the sanitary shit. So I'd have a good ass time grabbing a handfull of tampons and shoving them in the corner of the toilet counter. I got fired eventually cause cameras exist but if there wasn't a reason for them to check the cameras I would've been fine 🤗
@marzii3917 Damn. Sucks you got fired for helping people. Thankfully my store and district managers were extremely cool. We eventually started to donate food we pulled because it was getting close to its expiration date because I was upset we were throwing away so much perfectly good food. My district manager and I were really cool with each other so I mentioned it and she made it happen.
Your CVS is less strict on policy than mine was. They wouldn't even let us purchase damaged products ourselves let alone mark them off and keep them for free. This was during the pandemic mind you, when nobody was coming to get anything and the city looked like a fucking ghost town.
I was on probation for a year after getting caught selling food and soap when I was 18 and homeless. Now, if I see someone stealing necessities, and can afford to, I offer to buy it for them.
I recently experienced something like this. We're in a bad way right now, and I simply could not afford the medicine my partner needs to live, and the pharmacist worked for twenty minutes, giving me every discount and coupon in her power to give, until the price was low enough that I could pay. Being a caregiver and your household's only source of income is difficult. On top of medical bills, endless trips to specialists with no cure in sight, trying to make rent, and maintaining a full time job, while still being a loving and supportive presence in my loved one's life, little bumps in the road like being unable to afford medication can feel like the end of the world. I was so scared and stressed. That pharmacist was an angel.
Quick story time (long short story warning): One weekend I was on a camping trip with some family friends. While we were eating a woman (who looked to be middleaged ish) walks up to our campsite and politely asks if we could do her a little favor. I agree and she asks if any of our campers had a tampon or pad. I grab my backpack and ask her which product is prefered, she replies "Pad if posible, someone from our camp is having lady problems". In that moment my heart stoped with the realization that someone was dealing with a strugle that I only just started getting used to. I guess it just kinda hit me how small of a world we live in is. The woman was so polite to; not demanding just simply asking for a helping hand. Just some food for thought.
Story time :) So I used to work at CVS when I was younger and one day, a little girl came in and she went straight to the “feminine” area. About 5 minutes later she tried to run out of the store with tampons and pads in her hands. I stopped her and asked her why she was doing that and that she would get in trouble, she told me “please don’t tell anyone I’m starting my period soon and I really need this stuff, I am so sorry.” I didn’t even get mad at her, I actually got her a whole bunch of period products off of my store credit, such as pads, tampons, a heating pad, feminine wipes and much more. I also gave her a lesson that if she tried to do that at any other store then she’d get in a lot of trouble and that she’s lucky that my manager was working that day (btw the girl looked to be 13 years old while I was about 17)
yeah i was with this until you felt it necessary to tell her off when she just said she needed them and probably didn't have any money being 13. you're not as kind as you think. that wasn't in any capacity necessary and you probably scared the shit out of her and for what?
My parents tell me that if I see someone stealing lady products of baby products or anything like that, don’t do anything let them. I’ve followed that my whole life ❤️
9 times out of 10 if someone is seen stealing hygiene products (things like tampons pads deodorant and travel shampoo and body wash) employees of stores just write it as damaged unless its an extremely regular occurrence where i am. Things for babies you get pulled into a room and asked what you need in that moment and they get you what they can and then you are given information of where to get help after you leave. And things like condoms you can just straight up ask at urgi care/ doctors office for sexual health products because they would rather have you try and be safe than end up getting pregnant or getting someone else pregnant. Just some information that i know about where i live. Edit because i feel like i should also share that i was fortunate to be able to always kept a plethora of hygiene products in my bag at school and always told everyone what my locker was and told everyone to take or use what you need(i sanitized the deodorant sticks every day) and don't worry about putting money in (even though i would still find a few bucks here and there). That was the least i could do knowing i had the ability to have those things.
@Bailey Spelt Beefy boys too they used things like deodorant, got toothbrushes and toothpaste, and travel shampoo and body wash bottles. If you needed it was there.
I don't think anyone whose title doesn't involve "loss protection" gets paid enough. I knew a former police officer who said he got a call in the middle of the night to a convenience store about a shop lifter. The " thief" stole 3 small food items. The cop just paid for the items, gave them to the man and took him back to his vehicle that had his sleeping wife and baby in it. The family was homeless. People don't steal necessities for fun or money.
Stealing or not, people who have anxiety already have a hard time going out and getting essentials. Don’t need rude and unempathetic employees making it worse by assuming suspicious behaviour. Thank gosh for these lady right here.
But just because they steal these products, doesnt mean, they have no money for it. I dont understand why many people wanna ignore something like that. Instead of asking them? why making assumptions? (Believe me there are lots of people who look like they are in need of help, while they arent) What I would do is: i would go to them and ask them why they are stealing and if they have a good reason I would pay for it. But I would not ignore someone steal something.
I would 100% look the other way if I saw a girl stealing feminine hygiene products. It’s one of the biggest things that homeless women struggle to get access too and even if you’re not homeless they’re so expensive. Also there’s a lot of reasons that people who menstruate living in domestic abuse situations might not want to ask someone to buy them… point is look the other way or if you can afford to buy them do that :/
I honestly would go up to someone that is stealing something like that and full on pay for it so that way if they do get caught I can buy it for them. I been in that situation where my mom opened a box of tampons and gave me one then bought the box cause I was in need of one. Yeah they might be stealing but like you said they might be in a domestic relationship or house hold or they might be homeless. It the nicest thing you could do for them is at least pay for them and give them a bit of cash to get some more when they need it
@@Jenny-fl5cnit's not even a person's property, it's a giant store's property who already makes millions of dollars by profiting off of the misfortune of people by paying unliveable wages to it's workers while overpricing all the items they sell. They deserve to get stolen from
@@Jenny-fl5cn when it’s large chain like most steal from, chances are that they have such a huge budget that they literally put a certain amount aside to cover for shoplifting
No, it's not valid to steal. Period. But the way you've portrayed this, she was embarrassed about it, not she didn't have money. That's something she needs to get over.
I wouldn't even assume she was stealing. She was clearly uncomfortable with the situation, so I would have assumed that she just didn't want to be seen with it until she got to the register with her item. I've done it with various items before.
If someone steals something like diapers, tampons, pads or anything of the kind, it's because they actually need it and are probably in a really bad situation
@The Grumpy Horticulturist okay people and people have it worse than you sometimes .25 cents is something they might not have and you can’t just walk in too the college that is not okay
You do realize some stores if they catch- you seeing and letting customer to go after stealing, you will possibly need to pay item that was stolen, and possibly losing your job when your boss find replacement for you,or youl be switched to other store further away from your home, and then you are in position if you are noon shift, after work you miss last bus toward home, so no even if customer stole bonbon I won't let them scot free
I worked at a grocery store that was so good about people that steal food, diapers, or hygiene products that are important for daily life. They were stopped discreetly and the manager would make sure they had everything they needed out of his own pocket. The employees started a weekly volunteer collection to help out when we found out what he was doing. He was my fav boss, when I had to quit with no notice because of an emergency cross country move, he was so kind. Told me if I came back I had a job, and paid me every penny of sick, vacation, i was owed and 2 extra weeks salary I was not owed. As a single mom of 2 leaving everything I knew to start over... it was a godsend. He also sent me with treats and snacks for the kids out of his pocket. Kindness goes a long way. You never know what someone is going through.
I know so many kids who weren’t allowed to use certain sanitary items during their period, and more that were taught that they were shameful and should be completely ignored and just cleaned up as and when. That’s why I always carried at least 2-3 pads with me, so that people didn’t have to deal with that outside.
I'm from a large family, poor all our lives (medical issues, sometimes stuff just happens). Parents taught us work ethic and self-respect, and because we had proven our character, it has been more possible for us kids to get work, even if we don't have the fanciest things. I have hope that the future will gradually be brighter for all of us if we keep trying to do the right things. Now, when it comes to necessities: There are organizations that are built to help... retail stores are not, and the risk of getting arrested because the manager is under fire for "shrinkage" is dumb. Go to your local charities, churches, and even libraries. If they don't have what you need, they will know who does. Stay safe, be well, and give back to your community once you're back on your feet.
Stealing a necessity isn't stealing, as far as I'm concerned. That's just surviving. Instead of blaming people for being too poor to afford to live, blame the systems that put a price on existing.

@@catrice1296 I worked retail before. Crap wage but we got bonuses for hitting store targets. Do you know what it's like to hit a target and think you're going to get an extra £400-500 in your wages that month and then when the 'shrinkage' (a strange euphemism for theft,) is counted you miss the target and lose it all? Do you know what an extra £4-500 can buy for someone with kids? That's a months rent on a one/two bedroom apartment where I live. Or groceries for a month for an adult and child. You think these stores are just going to absorb high losses? They don't. That's why many just move out of high theft areas and then ppl complain about food deserts. Look at places like San Francisco and Chicago. Walmart closed four stores in Chigaco. Walgreens, Target, Nike, even Starbucks are just saying "enough." And with them go jobs. This little tampon stealing scenario is fantasy. Schools give out free tampons, food banks, churches, etc. People aren't generally stealing out of need and if it is a person stealing a little food or tampons then step up and buy it for them. Too many ppl are ready to say "oh let the stores take the hit" and feel virtuous. YOU be virtuous. YOU step up and pay. THAT is doing a good thing, not just looking away. And while you're at it donate to your local food bank or period poverty centre.
@@littleboots9800 The charity part is just a straight lie. Most places run out of necessities quickly, because most places are given ratty old clothing, almost expired food, and a ton of other trashy things. Sure, maybe you wouldn’t mind a thin t-shirt with holes during winter or having to constantly change underwear due to the risk of infection when your sitting in your own blood, or when you smell so bad that people literally avoid you and point and laugh. But most people do, and as such most people can understand if someone steals from Walmarts coat section, for period products or deodorant. Most people find that if they had no money and were in this situation, they would need to steal. Jobs require a healthy body, a presentable appearance (no smell or holes), and usually they like you clean. They might need these products so they can support themselves while they save enough money to afford food and save for a house.
This is why I always make sure I have a pad/tampon with me, even tho I don't use them. This ain't no post-apocalyptic world we need to be fighting over basic necessities what we need is to help others in need
I had a friend with a really hard home life and I remember one day she started her period at school and bleed on her skirt. I gave her my jacket to tie around her until her mom could come get her and when I asked her if she needed a tampon she said “I have another sock” This girl had been stuffing toilet paper in socks and put them in her underwear like a pad she broke my fucking heart. I told the guidance counselor afterward and around that time every month she would check in and make sure candra was taken care of.
I was in a similar situation and for fear of being made fun of, I would steal my mom’s pads and throw them away at school. Same thing with toilet paper, but it was all for nothing because my mom found out anyway
Here's another take: If she's so embarrassed to even ask if the store sells tampons, she probably doesn't want to be seen walking around with them. She could just be carrying them in her pocket until she gets to the register to pay for them. It's definitely a silly thing to be embarrassed about, but people get weird about period products sometimes.
I'm also going through a lot of issues. I think this 4K HDTV might help, let me just Grab that. And before anyone says "But a TV is more expensive then a tampon" yes you are right. A Tampon almost doesn't cost anything. Just buy it.
Not to judge someone? Who’s stealing! I mean I get people might be going through things but you can ask for it instead of stealing it which will probably allow you to get it without getting in trouble. Saying not to judge a person for doing something obviously is wrong is super weird! It’s like I shouldn’t judge someone for cheating on their spouse, maybe their spouse is a bad person or not judging someone for killing because the person they killed was a horrible being. It’s concerning how people are very morally loose lately.
When I worked in retail, security told me some crazy stories. When they noticed shoplifters walking out with "protection", they purposely wait until they are in a crowded space. Followed by "Stop! Empty your pockets!" The shoplifters would drop a dozen or more "protection". Then their face would turn red because they got caught stealing "protection".
and why exactly should they not be free? or at least free to those who cant afford them (like birth control, if you are on the D scale factor, meaning you make low income, it is free to the public) ontop of that, why should there be taxes on a product thats needed to be able to go out in the public? i highly doubt all of the girls in your class were convinced as this is something that is uncontrollable and some women lose an insane amount of blood and for broke people, that essentially means you cant leave the house for a week, unless youre okay with people seeing blood dripping from your crotch, which 99% of women are definitely not okay with that.
@dallas copp I've worked in retail. We report theft sure.. but we don't say a damn word to the thieves. Confrontation can lead to escalation, which could lead to me being hurt. Which could lead to me taking my employer to court.... they don't want that.
@@biancalewis4232 that depends on the company, and yes you could get hurt. However, some companies might find paying out lawsuits and fighting claims in court, than the millions they lose out from shop lifters annually

There was an article a few months ago about British supermarket workers turning a blind eye for people stealing necessities. This is what happens when there is such a deep financial crisis.
One time I was shopping at this small grocery store, and I didn't have enough to pay for all my items. That day I was buying small amount of groceries, but I still didn't have enough to pay. I was at register about to put some items back until the lady standing in line behind me paid for my grocery. I thanks the lady as I left the store, I wanted to cry tears of joy
Maybe she isn't stealing, she just doesn't want everyone to know and puts them out at the cashier's desk. It's just sad that our society still can't publicly talk about things like this. It's natural, we literally can't do anything about except for getting rif of the uterus. And I bet there aren't many women who want to do so, because why would they?
Feminine products are absolutely expensive and a necessity and I dont understand why they arent free yet for everyone who needs them! Lets take a lesson from Scotland.
I know they cost money to make but feminine products should be free or at least made available for free to people who need it. Your period isn't something you can stop and it can cause a lot of problems plus period products aren't exactly cheap. The only people who might disagree with me on this would be men but they don't even have to go through it so they can't talk but periods are something we spend a lot of money on and not everyone has the money to spend.
Did you just assume everyone of a specific sucks to have a certain trait or characteristic? Isn't that the definition of sexism? Should medicines be free as well?
@@StephKoenig Medicines absolutely should be free :) They are free in Northern Ireland, as is all healthcare at point of access. Period products are free in Scotland, and more and more there is a drive to ensure there are free period products to women from low income households across the UK and Ireland. Honestly if I ever were to work at a store and someone needed to buy something but they didn’t have enough money or they didn’t have enough money for something that they couldn’t afford I’d pay for it without a thought in my mind. I come from a fortunate family and when I see someone that is clearly struggling with finance issues either it be at home or in public I help them. Or even if someone needs help in general because you never know what someone is going though until you live a day in their life and see hard it is for them. Love everyone you meet. I love y’all and have an amazing day. ❤️
Worked in a shoe store. A guy came in dressed clearly for an interview. His sneakers were barely sneakers. He grabs a pair of dress shoes. I'm on the register with a long line. When I'm done he's left. I grab the box and open it. There's his sneakers. I had to report the loss, but felt bad for him. The whole time he was in the store he was visibly stressed. We had people steal for fun or to resell shoes. And we had people who stole because they were desperate. A father stole shoes for his toddler. Sure, they could go to a thrift store. But, what if the store doesn't have the size? You really shouldn't buy used shoes either for children. It can effect their foot development, as they're going to wear shoes that are worn out differently than if the shoes were brand new, which can cause issues later on.
"We don't know what's going on in their life" is a really dumb reason to allow stealing or any crime for that matter. If you want to help, buy her the tampons.
My policy is if I'm at a big chain store, and I see someone stealing feminine/basic hygiene, baby food/diapers, or food... No I didn't. I worked at a certain big name superstore once upon a time and I'd turn a blind eye if I ever saw this happen.
my fiancé and i lost our jobs recently and we've been unemployed for over a month despite applying to so many places. we've barely been able to get by with what we have. we've been struggling for food and period products. i hate it man. we won't even be able to pay rent and being forced to steal things we need is a terrible feeling

after that, if my manger wasn’t there, it became a “i didn’t see anything” policy for me, i would do the return, give him his store credit, and let him buy his food. it was a giant chain store that already accounts for losses so i’m not sorry about it either.
anytime i saw anyone take food, drinks, medicine, baby/feminine products i was suddenly blind
even if they were reselling, it wasn’t rlly any of my business. if you haven’t been poor enough to consider stealing, u don’t get a say in this discussion 🤷🏻♀️
And that’s one reason why groceries are so expensive for those who do pay. You don’t think stores adjust their prices to account for all the stealing happening these days?
And I certainly know what hardship is. But I’ll literally eat rice and beans every day before I’ll steal from a store.

Besides, most college kids are broke as 🦆 so you can’t have been the only one to do this
You should not be ashamed. Society as a whole should be ashamed you or others was/are not able to get basic necessities.
Never forget: If you saw someone stealing food, no you fucking didn't. Same thing applies here
I have helped a woman who was planning to steal sanitary items before.
She could just be a thief who doesn't want to pay
Also, if you can't afford baby formula then maybe having a child wasn't the best idea.

I have needed to call a store from the bathroom in need of a pad. Good stores keep a supply at customer service for emergencies.
The fact the females have to hide having periods from the males in the society in itself is disturbing, I feel like sometimes people forget that we are not some minorities asking for awareness to spread but rather 50% of the entire population smh.
Why didn't she wanna know the guys to know she bought pads? How old was she?
@@solar0windhonestly i have no idea why but i used to be so embarrassed about my period, probably even till i was about 18, would feel so weird even asking a female friend for a pad or anything. my mam used to buy my period products, i never had to until i left home for uni at 19 and even then i felt soooo awkward buying pads, glad i don’t have this shame any more.

It's not something I suggest or would promote, but I do think it's at least justifiable.
if this is approved by the person who owns the store chain then that's great. if it's like a thing between the cashiers then that's beyond messed up
@Mewmew Agreed but it depends on the context...
Thank you for doing that, having a sick child who's in pain is a very horrible feeling

remember kids, almost every store has a “no chase” policy where they would rather have employees simply report a theft rather than try to stop the person. if you see someone taking food, menstrual products, etc, leave them alone and report it later… or conveniently forget

Idk why period products can't be free , it's a necessary item
Yeah, I understand that, and I’m a woman too. But other necessary items aren’t free. Toilet paper. Food. And some places water. Why are period products different?

Do you ever notice the prices of tampons, pads, and other similar products? They can be quite expensive! Food, medication, and numerous other items also have high costs. I’m sorry but I have to disagree, this sort of thing can be the reason I lose my job
So do churches 😀
Also some workplaces have them for employees, and if someone asked me I would absolutely grab them one from the employee stash no questions asked.
Our library has a basket in the bathroom of free products.

Either you didn’t see it or, if you can afford to, you offer them money to pay for those
I mean, if it’s from a small business ran by good people, I’d probably tell em to stop or just pay for them, but if it’s from a money hungry business such as walmart, yea, you turn your ass around and continue as if nothing happened
Unless it's to an excessive amount. Like 23 bottles of baby formula.

Your CVS is less strict on policy than mine was. They wouldn't even let us purchase damaged products ourselves let alone mark them off and keep them for free. This was during the pandemic mind you, when nobody was coming to get anything and the city looked like a fucking ghost town.

Quick story time (long short story warning):
One weekend I was on a camping trip with some family friends.

So I used to work at CVS when I was younger and one day, a little girl came in and she went straight to the “feminine” area.

My parents tell me that if I see someone stealing lady products of baby products or anything like that, don’t do anything let them. I’ve followed that my whole life ❤️
I wouldnt even consider stopping someone from stealing unless it was a small business tbh.

Nope. People steal things for all sorts of reasons.

Never thought i would unironically hear someone say "thats a valid thing to steal"
I wouldn't let her steal it. I would buy them for her
Seems there aren’t a lot of voices for reason on here. Thank you for being one. Ultimately, someone is paying for them.
Thats what I thought too.
If society doesn't want people stealing necessities, they should make it easier for people to afford them.
Or make them free.
@@gummygrenadeyeah just make all the necessities free!

How about you buy them for her instead?
@@littleboots9800 Maybe because they have only enough money for themself?
@@SharyoSTAY BS. She has a job, she'll get a staff discount too. This is virtue signalling without actually doing anything virtuous.

I once did a full on speech on why feminine hygiene products should NOT be free, I convinced my class, and my teacher. They should not be free.
and why exactly should they not be free? or at least free to those who cant afford them (like birth control, if you are on the D scale factor, meaning you make low income, it is free to the public) ontop of that, why should there be taxes on a product thats needed to be able to go out in the public?
i highly doubt all of the girls in your class were convinced as this is something that is uncontrollable and some women lose an insane amount of blood and for broke people, that essentially means you cant leave the house for a week, unless youre okay with people seeing blood dripping from your crotch, which 99% of women are definitely not okay with that.
OK but it's literally not your job to stop theft. You could get hurt. Businesses have a theft buffer. Especially big stores.
Its literally in most peoples job description to report theft and thieves in stores
@dallas copp I've worked in retail. We report theft sure.. but we don't say a damn word to the thieves. Confrontation can lead to escalation, which could lead to me being hurt. Which could lead to me taking my employer to court.... they don't want that.

“Yeah they are right here” the bedding section in the background 💀
Maybe she isn't stealing, she just doesn't want everyone to know and puts them out at the cashier's desk. It's just sad that our society still can't publicly talk about things like this. It's natural, we literally can't do anything about except for getting rif of the uterus. And I bet there aren't many women who want to do so, because why would they?
Usually when someone like this happens, we all tell our managers upfront because they’re very understanding and one of us pays for it simple as that
This gave me goosebumps !!! If only we had more retailers doing this
Feminine products are absolutely expensive and a necessity and I dont understand why they arent free yet for everyone who needs them!
