It's the tough love truth and I'm grateful someone is finally fucking saying it. The entertainment business is still a business.

@@GloriamMonarchia replying respectfully but not everyone internalizes it. Sure, they judge celebrities to the bone. But why are people like Elon Musk or Donald Trump idolized and made celebrity? What really is the worth is there to being known? So many people strive for it. It's like the conversation on whether or not billionaires should be allowed to be billionaires. A lot of normal people who vouch for billionaires do so because they feel that position is still tangible rather than, as Bo also puts it in perspective for being famous/a celeb, just luck. There's a lot more nuance to the concept and its relationship with our own humanity. And not just 10 year olds or children as you say are affected by it. I know so many grown adults who fall into that idea of celebrity being a real thing, just like how they believe buying lottery tickets might win them the lottery someday. That's the business of celebrity is people still buy into it. Magazines, tabloids, paparazzi, merch, marketing, politics.... it literally bleeds into everything in our culture.

He’s always had issues regarding not being happy with his public appearances, there’s been many times he’s mentioned about enjoying making people laugh but not feeling comfortable with all the recognition such as tv shows that comes with it

Inside is far from the first special or show where that was the theme lol. Literally every single special and most of his songs cover how he’s not alright and trying to just laugh through it.
Could be that he’s just mocking all the rich pop artists who piss and moan about their problems in their music and seeing if he can get his own fans to show the same sympathy celebrity worshipping fans show for them . It’s not beyond his ability to come up with something like that. Or it could be that he legitimately deals with mental illness.

The fact that he acts like he just got lucky when he actually has talent-
He does have talent. So do many others. He's saying, rightfully, that just because you have talent doesn't mean you will gain success. In fact, most talented people don't and will not. He got lucky and so did a few others. But the odds are stacked against you and you will most likely fail unless there's some other reason you'll be seen.

In that video of Bo with the older comedians he's so much sharper and quicker than all of them, in the full video their comebacks are weak but still get big laughs form the audience and Bo.

They have the more typical observational, comedic insult type of vibe. Whereas Bo has this more self aware, deeper and bit darker sense of humour which I think resonates more with younger people

The problem with famous people saying "follow your dreams" or "work hard" is - they're right. It does take that to succeed. However, it also takes an imperceivable amount of luck. I've never heard another celebrity in my life admit this.

A hallmark of a good comic is how fast they can make a joke from something someone else says. Robin Williams was a master at that.
I know this video is about Bo! But come on! The comeback to the "who are you?" Joke is brilliant.
When Bo says that the system is against you, he means it and it’s true. The industry doesn’t want you, it wants the person that is better than you. Talent scouts aren’t everywhere searching for you. They are searching for the best, but they don’t have a magic formula nor do they have the same opinions or experience or expertise. And they still aren’t everywhere. You have to have that quality that puts you above the rest, you have to have it flawlessly consistently, you have to be in front of of a talent scout (you won’t know), you have to be in front of a good talent scout who can recognize your worth, you have to get his or her trust and confidence to submit your work to their agency, that agency has to be able to put your work in front of the world stage, and your work has to convince that agency to do so and not pass on you in favour of one of the million other people chasing their dreams with hopefully less luck than you up up until that point. Because someone better than Bo Burnham might right now be toiling in obscurity, simply because Bo was found first, and the agency wanted to put their stock in Bo. Or because the agent went to the bathroom during their best joke.
There are fourteen million six hundred and five scenarios, and only one where you win.
I actually discovered him through his mindblowing awesome INSIDE show in 2021 on Netflix. Respect.

I remember that episode of The Green Room, a bunch of older comedians acting like kids, pretending they were not getting Bo's jokes... What an attitude.
Comedians can be pretty self-righteous, mean and a bunch of bullies eventually.
I learnt that Marc treated the exact same way even Jeselnik when he was starting out (from the Whitney Cummings' podcast, I reckon).
I love Marc and his comedy, I really do, but that kind of an attitude just exudes personal insericurity.
