She was known as One Take Karen. She’d walk in to a recording session, sing it once and walk out. She was that good. Herb Alpert who owned her recording label said she was a phenomenon.
No one but no one can even come close to Karen Carpenter's voice! She is in a class by herself!!
Listen to Tori Holub on CZcams sing the Carpenters' hit Merry Christmas, Darling. You will swear Karen has been reincarnated as a blonde.
Well she sounds anything to close the Karen she needs to tour with Richard can I buy some tickets
Her brother Richard was a genius with arrangements and musicality. But Karen’s voice is just legendary. And you’re right the lyrics take on a whole new meaning when the person is gone. But it’s especially heart wrenching with Karen because she was gone too soon. And we now know a lot of her struggles.
❤️ thank you for reacting to this song. You can feel emotion with every word the way she sings. Such a powerful singer that hits your soul.
her voice truly is captivating.
Voice of an angel 💜
Richard, Karen's brother, was the musical arranger for the Carpenters. Richard and Karen Carpenter, brother and sister. He also sang backup and short solo vocals. Karen was the vocal superstar of the duo. Try their song Ticket To Ride 1970 version. There is a demo version but the single version is best. This song was the first song the Carpenters ever released as a single. It failed but their second single, Close To You, became their biggest hit.
Karen was a pro singing ballads. Her voice was incomparable.
karen's personally favorite song....in retrospect, perhaps the story of her life..
Yes, this song breaks my heart. Karen had a voice of pure gold. This song is so true to Karen's life.
Karen and Richard Carpenter were brother and sisters, in the 70's and 80's they made hit records together and toured, She died of Anorexia Nervous at age of 32. She was an angel who went through more pain than I think any of us knew. I miss her and I always wonder what more she would have sang with her brother's magnificent arrangements. So sad that she is gone.
Live and no lip sync. The voice of an angel then and now.
Your reaction is excellent. She is the Best Female Vocalist I've ever heard - no one comes close to the clarity, emotion, and sincerity of her voice. Miss her so very much - a Monumental Tragedy when she passed. One of the worst days in music history.
A hauntingly beautiful song, it gives me flashbacks of being single every time I hear it. I’ve been happily married ten years, it’s a bit of a reminder for me to appreciate where I am and what I have
Ahhhhh her favorite song
Your observations are much more insightful than most of the reaction videos on CZcams. Karen was a once-in-a-lifetime talent. If you haven't seen it yet, check out her drumming. She was excellent and clearly happiest while playing.
I appreciate reactors who do a deeper dive into the meaning and significance of lyrics! Nice. And the Carpenters have awesome lyrics...sort of like Alec Benjamin does these days.
Absolutely amazing group, the most beautiful music i've ever heard.
Karen Carpenter knocked it out at every live performance without special effects. She was as nearly flawless as it can get.
Brother Sister group......karen voice is pure they based autotune on her ok made that up....her vocal style was intended to be heard and felt...she sang so clear you never missed a word.
Thanks for doing another Carpenters song. They were my Mom's favorite band when I was a kid. So I grew up listening to them. When you get around to doing another video about them. I would do their song Solitaire. I'm my opinion that song is Karen's best vocal performance. Definitely worth a listen, even if you choose not to do a reaction video to it. Anyways, keep up the good work.
Karen & Richard are siblings.
Hi First time been so early ,I love the carpenters!
Great reaction. Karen said this was her favorite song because it was autobiographical. My I suggest you react to Karen Carpenter Kickass Drummer video, she was so talented not just a singer but drummer. In 1975 was named best Rock drummer!!
Thank you for an honest, sincere reaction! My 1st time hearing this song! They never let me down! Yes hind-sight is 20/20! Very thoughtful remarks! More Carpenters please!
-Terry from Canoga Park
Love Ur reactions..The Guy with Her is Her Musical Partner and Brother...Richard Carpenter....Could U react to DIANA ROSS..A'int No Mountain High Enough*..Missing You..(Dedicated to Marvin Gaye)....Much love to U...
LOVELY Karen! God rest her beautiful soul!
I recommend Yesterday Once More
It's so nostalgic
Hey, great reaction. You have feelings and insightfulness beyond your years, and it’s refreshing to see that in the younger generation. Keep wearing your heart on your sleeve. Unfortunately when I was growing up, guys were not allowed to show emotion or vulnerability because it was seen as being weak, which is just so lame. Many guys have just as many deep feelings and emotions, and it’s healthy to express them and not bottle them up. Good for you! 👍🏼
Wishing you continued growth and success.

I really enjoyed watching your reaction. Karen was very ill at the time the test was taped. She was an amazing gift from God but she was too beautiful to stay here too long. They needed her in heaven. It’s nice to see that even though you were young man that you get it. You get Karen.
Richard Carpenter is her brother playing Piano. He did Everything. Arranged the music and wrote most of her n songs.
It's heartbreaking that Karen is no longer with us. This is my favorite Carpenters song. She was a magnificent talent leaving behind, together with her brother, Richard, a legacy of beautiful music. She is missed!
Hits differently. I feel it's a gift from her. Im just so glad for recordings. Love listening to the oldies. Nice job with your reaction 👌
I think the word you were looking for in describing her voice is melancholic
Karen Carpenter and her brother Richard. She was always the singer since she was 19. Richard would always dub her harmony singing with her songs. No autotune, computerized music, antics, etc. Just his musical brilliance and her untrained, yet best voice ever. Hear her sing 2 notes and you know its her. Who else can be recognized that easily ? Voted best 1975 rock drummer by Playboy. John Lennon personally told her she had a lovely voice. It is reported that Paul McCartney said she was the best female singer of a lifetime, and Sinatra stated she was the only singer he would pay to hear. Dionne Warwick praised her singing and was her friend. She sang amazingly well, especially when truly sick after 1975. She seemed to have it all, except a man to love her.
Nice see younger generation so passionate about the carpenters who are different class they had 20 classic s or more!.. Love your reaction please listen to more YOUL be well pleased . How seriously good they are liked your vid x😘👍👍
This song is particularly heartbreaking because we all know that Karen was only married once… the marriage ended in divorce and she left this world without a love or companion.💙💙💙
All of their music is great
That is her brother. That's why they are the Carpenters brother and sister. My favorite by them (although it's a holiday song) is Merry Christmas Darling and the lyrics are great too.
You should listen to "A Song For You" by them. Karen's vocal is chilling and the lyrics so prophetic.
Your view in life is deep as a young person !! from your comments!! Keep going !! dont lose hope !!
That's Richard Carpenter her brother. he arranged all of their music
Yes, this was, indeed, Karen’s favorite song to perform. Unfortunately, it rings very true in her life as Karen only married once to a nightmare of a husband and really never knew love. It is very very sad. The piano player is Richard, Karen’s brother.
that is her brother richard a composer and musician
Love this reaction, I bet if you had a reality show it would be big you just intrigued me you're fun to watch
Karen and Richard's surname was Carpenter. I like that you call them Carpenters, not "The Carpenters" as so many people, even fans, do. Richard was always firm on there being no "the"!
That is Richard, her brother. He arranged and orchestrated all the music.
You'll pass out if you listen to Solitaire.
Love u man...😊
It is her brother, Richard Carpenter
legend has it that Frank Sinatra once claimed that there is only one singer he would pay to see live in concert: Karen Carpenter
It is her brother Richard Carpenter on the piano. and harmonies. He is a genius arranger and composer who lost his sister too soon
1st time watching your channel and loved your reaction. Karen is my all time favorite singer....ever! If you have not reacted to it yet, can you do CLOSE TO YOU next, by the Carpenters please. Richard on the keyboards is her brother. Thanks and keep smiling 🤘🙂
The guy on the piano is her brother
Karen Carpenter was the greatest female drummer and vocalist.
Those of us who grew up with her knew how great she and her brother were.
We all wept openly upon hearing of her untimely and muornful death.
Karen was perfect!
That is hus brother rechard carpiter who played the piano
The man on the piano is her brother Richard. Lots of people thought they were a married couple.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Richard was her brother. He did the writing and the arrangements.
they are brother and sister...
This was Karen's favorite song.
Listen to "Eve" from 1969, a Carpenters original, for that prophetic effect. And listen to "Now", recorded April 1982, the last song Karen recorded...ten months later she was gone.
Tears
Tears
Sad
🔝👏
No, he is her older brother. The Carpenters consisted of Karen and her brother, Richard, and other musicians. Richard did all the arrangements and orchestration. Karen's vocal abilities were unparalleled. Her last recorded song, "Now," was created using her first vocal track, intended just for studio instruments to follow, because she passed away before she could record the actual vocal track for the release. It was flawless. Karen's is a sad story in the romance department. While she did indeed marry, her husband was a swindler and only wanted her money. Karen actually found out about him before the wedding, but her militant mother said they already paid for the wedding and she WOULD go through with it. They were divorced in 14 months. I suggest you google Carpenters and at least do a bit of preliminary research before your review. Karen's battle with Anorexia was tragic.
One account stated that someone told her "the camera adds 20 pounds," and other stories suggest a critic referred to her as "Richard's pudgy little sister." I also believe without a doubt, most of her emotional struggles were conceived through the way her mother always praised Richard, and rarely said a thing about Karen's achievements. The woman couldn't even tell her own daughter she loved her. That is heartbreaking. Whatever the case, we lost one of the best female vocalists in human history.
The CARPENTERS have a -'CHRSTMAS ALBUM', available on CZcams, as well. 20+ songs of themed music...Check- THAT OUT !!! ( My 'PERSONAL FAV is-'CHESTNUTS ROASTING ON AN OPEN FIRE')
Yes. Richard said this was Karen's favorite song from their repertoire. The one at Piano is the brother. The Carpenters is a duo of brothers Richard Carpenter and Karen Carpenter. This year, I think it is in 1976 she was probably already sick with anorexia nervosa. At the beginning of the disease, as you can see that she starts to lose weight in 1975
"Guy at piano" is her brother, Richard. She never had a real love. Hence, the song. 4 Grammys. Died at 32 after long history of anorexia nervosa. Best female vocalist - ever.
👍👍👍
That's her brother Richard He wrote this song.
im so happy to see you your so handsome im in love wigth you
the piano player is her brother.
She is with her Brother, Richard.
Love Karen.... ❤️😞
That's her brother, Richard.
Her brother, Richard.
React kimbra two way street ❤
Many Carpenters lyrics seem prophetic about Karen in retrospect...even covers (for example check out "A Song For You", which is by Leon Russell).
This one you're reacting to here is a genuine live version, too, not a TV style dubbed studio track. Karen's phrasing is not quite the same here as in the studio version. (I'm a huge fan and have heard the studio track dozens of times.)
she was so ill with anorexia here...
If you think that’s bad, you should see the CZcams videos of her and Richard doing
Interviews around 1981. She looked like death warmed over. In one of the interviews, the British journalist lady keeps asking Karen probing questions about her weight loss and Karen gets very irritated with her.
It’ her brother the one who’s playing piano
That's her brother Richard
Dude, please react to Un día (One Day) by J. Balvin, Dua Lipa and Bad Bunny. Trust me 😉
Esa voz tiene algo extraño que te atrapa
It's her brother.
The guy in the video is her older brother...
Check out the Walter Reed Burt Bacharach medley. She was only 20.
That’s her older brother.
Please can you react to Soda Stereo Musica Ligera or Persiana Americana. This Band was from Argentina bro
It was her brother
She's often referred to as Karen Carpenter rather than just Karen - Carpenter was her surname! The guy is her brother, Richard Carpenter. Her voice was on point as usual here, but she didn't look well, I'm presuming she must have been quite ill with her anorexia here. :(
Ill here? Look at the other "I Need To Be In Love" red and white outfit live performance. Its an even better live version, but she is way thinner than in this video. But she sounds absolutely gorgeous. Very heartbreaking.
That's Richard her brother...
I always think that God lent Karen to us.
They are brother and sister.
her brother
Her brother
Does anybody here told you this song was Karen's favorite? And is her brother - Richard - on the piano. :)
And by the way, VI3ION, you're such a brilliant person! It's genuine the way you go through these songs and all the meaning around Karen's legacy. You shine too! Best wishes from a Carpenters' fan (and yours) from Brazil.
Yes. Richard said this was Karen's favorite song from their repertoire.
Karen could have sang the phone book and it would have hit #1
Brother Richard
Brother
Her voice was a beautiful, unique and unrepeatable event in the universe. It's not Billy Holiday or Ella Fitzgerald. It's not Janis Joplin. Not Nina Hagen. It's not Alison Moyet or Stevie Nicks or Chrissie Hynde or Wynona Judd. Not Joan Armatrading . . . you get the point. Within the first two words you immediately know . . . That is Karen Carpenter. You know, she didn't even know she could sing. But she could. She could sing like magic. Pure magic. czcams.com/video/0B_dHkUdtpA/video.html
