  • Thanks for watching!
    Custom shoe storage bench.
The build itself was very fast but I had to renovate the shop, as you can see in the late part of the video, so it actually took me over 2 months to complete it.
It features dovetails joint, 2 shelves with sliding dovetail to allow the wood to expand and contract, sliding doors with openening to let the shoes breathe, and hexagonal legs.
wood for the structure: ash / finish: hard wax oil, Oli Natura

awesome, awesome cabinet build - thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved the clamping caul for the dovetails - ingenius yet so simple, will definitely be borrowing that idea from you.

Glad you liked it! It’s not an idea of mine, I think I first saw Ishitani Furniture use it and kind of copied it, but happy you like it anyway! Be careful and safe :)

Broheim get some push blocks goin :O Better to be gung ho on the safety BEFORE you realize you needed it really bad :X Esp on that jointer that thing will eat you. Just saw a vid of a dude that had his hand go inside the jointer because he didnt have the guard that you 'push' out of the way when you feed a board in. He wasnt using push blocks and said he regretted not having that jointer attachment.
That being said, SUBBED! Keep up the good work :D Love the design of your doors how they close and make an X is pretty crucial!

Turn your flattening sled the other way around. Won't need hot glue then and it's safer. :)

Please get a guard on the jointer... your hand was so close when you reached over. And then the tie from the apron nearly went in it. I've used mine without a guard a few times and it's just not safe thing to do at all.
Other than that, great skills and the piece looks great!!

Nice job but sketchy safety habits - not a good example for beginners especially.

Agree, the piece came out beautiful, but too many cringe moments with placement of hands and improper use of push blocks on multiple machines. And too much chisel work aimed at the opposite hand. Finally the complete lack of dust collection. Hope this young man will take this as constructive. He does beautiful work.

Did we watch the same video? You two are off your rockers..... he used push sticks nonstop, and not everyone has to set an example.

Thanks all for the tips and worrying, I always put a disclaimer at the start of the video, and I do not want to set an example. No it’s not beginner friendly, I get that, but woodworking itself it’s risky, but I’m doing my best with what I have. Have a nice day you all ☺️🚀

Why do you use the Japanese planers and saws? Any good?

    • @jamesinthewood
      @jamesinthewood  Před měsícem +1

As for the planes there is not a real reason other than the feeling I get from using it, I have other western type planes but I always find myself using the Japanese one, it feels more natural. As for the saw I started with Japanese saws, and I’ll continue to use them, as you can get very fine cuts in comparison with push saws. 🚀

@@jamesinthewood Thank you for your reply. I like diy wood craft videos. The y say too. But we mainly use soft wood. And I think japanese planers seems difficult to have collect tuning. You, european?, seems to be challenger. Anyway I'm looking foward to your next videos. Thanks.
