- The first of two half-hour presentations, "Upheaval: The Story of the New River Gorge" explores the history and controversy of a region formed over millions of years as the ancient New River -- now federally protected as a national river -- carved its way through the Appalachian Mountains, following a violent collision of continental plates. West Virginia Public Broadcast produced "Upheaval" in partnership with the National Park Service. The natural resources of the New River Gorge fueled the Industrial Revolution and spawned the legend of steel driver John Henry.

I’m from Hinton. Haven’t lived there in ages, but still call it “home”. Now that I have retired, the mountains are calling me.
I grew up here. I remember my parents taking me to the New River Bridge opening in 1977. Great memories. I'll always have those mountains in me.
New River Gorge is one of the most beautiful places on earth!
Agreed!
runswithcats1 💯😊
I live like 7 miles from the bridge and it’s beautiful
The New River is my favorite place in the world. My parents got married at the Hawks Nest overlook in the mid 80's, and although I don't live in WV anymore, I still love to visit this amazing scenery every chance I get.
Excellant program and well worth watching. I am encouraged to visit the place 5*
pwalpar it's beautiful, the sandstone falls are amazing. I love it 😊💜
We come back every year. It's truly the most beautiful place I've ever been and I've been a lot of places. If you love the outdoors this is literally heaven on earth not even kidding. I've been in Tennessee a s Kentucky the Carolinas and they don't even come close to the gorge.
From Hinton maked me homesick Leona Pitzer cox
