i made this tumbler out of stuff that was laying around. sure you can buy one online and save your time. but for me it was fun to build this thing. hope you enjoy watching it. have a nice day, geko
It doesn't even have to vibrate. I made one years ago from a truck wiper Motor and just a tupper box. Mounted at 45° or so, some sand inside and then let it rotate slowly. Works just fine. If you want a mirror shine, Change the sand for bits of chalk (School chalk broken into rough cubes) annd some ground cork. That is much less noisy.
like everything about this design. the psu / the large plastic bucket / funnel / old fan / no springs IE rope to hang it. Just simple easy going to make this one.
"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage - to move in the opposite direction." --Albert Einstein have a nice day, Geko
Adding coil springs on each string can help. The springs should be light enough to stretch slightly with the weight of the unit. Nice cheap solution, it's function isn't all that different from an industrial version we preload with 80lbs of media.
This makes so much sense on all levels. I am looking at making one but wanted something larger. I have a bunch of 12v high amp PSU's laying around from 3d printer projects. I feel like this would be perfect. Hanging it is brilliant too for saving space. I think ill explore this.
You know. Looking at the little hobby kits at various craft stores. And, shocking enough. I have everything you used to make this. It is a shame that stores want you to pay an arm and a leg for PLASTIC PRODUCTS. that make me search how to did it. It may not be warranted. But, atleast When I make something I have a feel for how long it will last, and is actually half the fun. Once again thanks for sharing. 👍
I've been watching a bunch of DIY tumbler videos and when you were cutting the fan blades off and left 2 of them attached I thought to myself "that thing is going to be so out of balance it is going to shake like crazy." Then I went DUH and slapped myself on the forehead.
ola, essa acho que eu mesmo posso responder. Para limpar laminas, materiais mais duros, maioria usa aquelas areia para gato. Se for fazer o cartucho de munições, melhor usar arroz com casca ou quirela de milho.
Full marks for ingenuity Geko... up-cycling something that would normally hit the bottom of the trash bin with a bang! - Now where can I find an old motor with a broken fan? Ahh! The car breakers yard! I'm off to get one! P.S. What abrasive media did you find to use?
nice job but I'm not so certain that that Motors going to last very long it's not really built for that kind of abuse the vibrations going to tear up the bearings in it
Seems like the only way around the bearing problem is to use a belt drive system, with a long belt that soaks up a lot of movement before the motor experiences any vibration.
Don't expect much life. Don't put the imbalance on the motor bearings, they aren't meant for it. Use an intermediary stage with appropriate bearings for the lateral loads.
Im not really versed in mechanical terms but I understand what youre saying and it makes perfect sense. Could you suggest a solution to this problem in laymen's terms for me? I'd really appreciate it because I'm planning to build a bottle tumbler for my wifey for Christmas! :)
Nice but I wish these musical maestros would keep their genius to themselves. As Luke commented how effective was this gadget without before and after images. There are much more informative and complete videos on the web
That would make a great video even greater. Show the results. I imagine that if the vibratory action isn't strong enough it might not work. Of course choice of media is important also.
I like the idea but... why not remount the fan back "in" the schroud in stead of outside of it, to avoid the chance of injury or whatever murphy's law wants to through at ya ?
@@DavidKenny64 well i ask because ive made similiar tools and thats been the issue,. They work great for cleaning up small parts but end up not getting long term use.
@@laserfalcon I hear you. You would be better to pick a motor with ball bearing instead of sleeve bearings as I suspect that motor has. Also, check out the comment from Thomas Bögel (just about a page down on my computer) about it not needing to be vibratory, but just rotary.
Off balance fan blade for oscillations....genius. fairly quiet too...nice job!

never thought of using an Old pc powersuply as a 12v source! you sir, are a live saver!
thanks for watching buddy.
it has also 24v, 5v and 3v options
Likely the best I've seen. Even suitable for reloads
The "hanging up " concept It is a great tip , thank you.
KUDOS! Geko! Suspending the tumbler is genius.

I made something similar to this. Let's just say it polishes knobs really nice using very little lubricating media.
Fun to make. Even more fun to use.
Best design I've seen on the internet, as you say cheap and easy, thanks very much for sharing, go to the top of the class!
Nice vid. It would be nice to see a before and after for that part you dropped in.
I have been needing to make one of these. Your design wins!
Thanks for the inspiration!
cheers, buddy!
Great use of an old radiator fan motor. I like this idea and have to say would like to copy it.
Robert Maso can use a vibrating sander as well, might work for longer period

so it makes small stones to bigger one, nice
That's one crazy bird feeder.
Good job. It works, and cheap to make.
Veri Veri good .. Best & simpal vibreting masin😲😲😲😲😲👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

XD have a nice day my friend.
Haha!
Good job really helpful thanks I have to make one of these on steroids to clean a fire extinguisher this was really helpful thank you
Exellent video, really funny to watch.
When I read "Homemade Tumbler ( cheap & easy )" and the video lasted only 2 min, I had to give it an insta like
Genial eifach, einfach Genial. Hände aus Gold hat der Kerl :)

vielen lieben dank mein bester!
dude this is awesome and I think I'll make one soon as I'm going to be casting some aluminium parts.
=) cheers budy
this is freekin awesome, you're bad ass man !

hi there mr.q5. willy here. more power and god bless sir... pumitik na ako sir... salamat have a nice day
how about some before & after pics of the polished pieces.
Great i have alot of quartz with tons of gold all over i need to make a large one of these for my stuff ...thanks big time
You could probably get it to do better by adding a few large diameter bolts and nuts to the fins also
Parabéns amigo, gostei muito. Que material você colocar dentro para limpar as peças? Valeu.
ola, essa acho que eu mesmo posso responder. Para limpar laminas, materiais mais duros, maioria usa aquelas areia para gato. Se for fazer o cartucho de munições, melhor usar arroz com casca ou quirela de milho.
Thanks for the tutorial can be repair again

:) . Great idea am doing it
+Snakebite
let me know how it turned out.
cheers
awesome dude!
+Bows and stuff
thanks
what exactly is the cone in the middle for?
+Bows and stuff
it makes the circular movement.
would it work without it?
I was thinking about making a rock tumbler using a fan motor. I would need to turn mine sideways so as to rotate a small drum.
Or, I could do this as a vibratory tumbler. Do you think it would work for polishing rocks?
Another option could be a 110v desk fan or even an old ceiling fan
Great video and creation too!

Ez remek! Good work!
Neat!
thanks bro
have a nice day!
thanks for awesom idea :)

😭
Veeeeeeeeeeio era isso q eu precisava muito obrigado
you only make the sand container vibe? just easy like tht? i want to build tool like tht sir, thx a lot
Awesome thanks!
What kind of stone did you use ? Greetings from Guayaquil Ecuador
Could not be any cheaper, nice! Have you any tumbled parts to show?
That would make a great video even greater. Show the results. I imagine that if the vibratory action isn't strong enough it might not work. Of course choice of media is important also.
Brilliant, I have a nasty fan with a new purpose. what was the medium in the second batch?
"1^st = cat litter
2^nd = stones" -Geko
Super thanks
made the same thing it works to 90% ...... it just needs tweeking to finishing ..... to get it to 95%-100%
good job ;)
+fire-wolf
merci mon ami. Cordialement à la France.
;)
okay why have I never seen this
So is it a old fan motor. I'm curious why the computer power supply?
Burn Em Bluntz mostly likely free
I thought the video was a great way to use available resources. Where did you get the background music?
What the computer fan doing , what is action ?
what was the name of the "sand-like" mixture?
Nice idea, nice build, tell me your not an engineer?
i`m not a engineer! XD
cheers, geko
How long you have to keep parts in there to remove alll rust ?
And what was the result like?
What is the computer fan used for?
So what does this do? Break stones or what?
what is the media in the 1st and second batch ???? plssss. reply
+evelyn omandam
1^st = cat litter
2^nd = stones
Galing naman hehe Kuya nag iwan ako NG regalo paki hatid nalang pabalik
Yes but... did it work?
Was there a reason, other than the fan cord being old, you connected that to a pc power supply ?
this is a 12 v fan out of a car!
BOOM! lol
excellent!!! Build from nothing
+Apostolis Vlachos
=) happy that you like it.
Where was the rotor from?
Did I just see a 10mm socket? I thought these were a myth!!!
could this be used to clean dentures?
No. Use over the counter denture cleaner, like efferdent. You don't want to rattle all the teeth out or wear down the whole thing.
Stan Stuben yeh but you have to take them out first
Awww, you had to tell him didn't you.. :-)
BUENO
Does it work???
I like the idea but... why not remount the fan back "in" the schroud in stead of outside of it, to avoid the chance of injury or whatever murphy's law wants to through at ya ?
it makes a difference in the vibration. with biger distance to the bucket you get a better effect.
cheers, geko
I wonder what my cat would do if he was before one of those...
How long before bearings say enough
Probably much longer than the time it will take you to find another free motor to replace it.

Can't stand the noise (music)
Only watched as I thought it was a weed tumbler not a bloody stone one lol
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Only 4 dollars to buy two bottles of 4L vinegar, you can get rid of any rusted parts.
ye reta hai sir g ya koi or miteral hai
The music ruins a good video.
i want to kiss you
Why bother making junk ,just buy one there dirt cheap......???????
No results? You fail DIY Video 101.
Because yea, we all got that shit just laying around the house lol click bait
Good job really helpful thanks I have to make one of these on steroids to clean a fire extinguisher this was really helpful thank you
