The only road story I have is buying Keith Mccready beer at the Derby City Classic back in the early 2000's. He was playing for a few thousand a set after hours and the hotel had stopped serving alcohol. He had a decent crowd going and was starting to complain he was out of beer and couldn't concentrate. I was drinking myself so I offered to go get him some. I went to a bar and got a case of beer and the show continued. I didn't know him, never talked to him, hardly said much to him that night other than, "I'm going to get some beer you want me to pick you up some?" "Here is your beer good luck." The next year at the Derby I'm walking past him, our eyes meet, I give a head nod (how could he remember me right) and he stops me and says, "Hey I'm getting ready to play a set you want to go get me some beer again?"
true legend, I saw him in San Antonio working his hustle about 10 years ago. He had the best crap talking and game hustling I have ever seen. One of the last of the great hustlers.
I saw Ronnie play at a tournament in Johnson City, IL in the 60's. He was from Danville and I was from Bluford, IL. Ronnie was one of the greatest pool players I ever seen play! Fats was there but was pretty old so pretty much all he did was talk a good game.

Fools that don't believe, I seen Ronnie win 35,000 playing some suit with a broom stick over 3 days at the Billiard Den in North Hollywood, Ca. only thing Ronnie demened was he could chalk the end of the broom stick. These stories are this tip of the iceberg!
Ronnie's imagination for 1 Pocket was amazing...Jersey Red also on the same level....but Ronnie's shot making + his ability to see things was unnerving to many of the top notch players he played.......& Moscow I was beaten twice by a liquor salesman from Rockford ill....I met the man...saw the newspaper article framed and posted on the wall other pool room at State & Madison in Rockford in 1978....when Mosconi came back to the area to play again...Willie refused to play him again.....the man's name was Charlie Cachipalia.......
He sounds just like my old boss Harley Bryan from Jacksonville, Florida. Hes got all these great road stories like this. You should really get in touch with him. I have all his info if u want it.

Ronnie' stories are fun to listen to. But they reflect the not-so-pretty side of the life of a pool hustler. Like most other pool sharks, Ronnie was addicted to gambling of all kinds. Like his cohorts, he lived fast and died broke. Many old pool players also die alone after a life of late nights, drinking, doing drugs, carousing and not worrying about tomorrow.
But they never play part of the sucker. They never get stuck in a dead end 9-5 mind numbing existence. At least they chased their own happiness, even if they never find people to watch them die slowly.

I thought that was really good; Harold Worst story brought tears to my eyes. The machine gun guy story sounds like a scary spot; I have a friend that won $2,000 in a Mexican pool hall in Houston, and when they went to leave they all blocked the door; his running buddy went to the pay phone and called the police and said officer down shots fired at Rio pool hall and when 12 cops showed up in 2 minutes they walked right out the front door.

Fast Eddie was not one to brag on anybody but himself , and he deserved to, but the testimony he gave Harold Worst was amazing.
He played the stardust in '64-'65, died june 16, 1966 (36 yrs old)
