Apparently Stine didn't stop being disturbing. In Say Cheese - and Die Screaming, there's a scene where a kid breaks their arm ( bend in a weird angle as it were ) during a basket ball game only because the main character took a picture of the girl.

It's funny how we read this stuff as kids and paid no mind to the disturbing content. But as adults, we wonder how we weren't traumatized by the disturbing content

The two that still stuck with me are from the following books.
Be Careful What You Wish For and My Hairiest Adventure. The endings for those two are insane. Without spoiling the endings too much, all I can say is Samantha missed her chance to get rid of her bully, and as for Larry…well…he’s 12. I wouldn’t want to be in his situation!

I’ve read two of these books, and the ghost girl in The Haunted Car was hard for me to imagine cause of how gross she was described as. But here’s another disturbing scene from Goosebumps, and the book is Stay Out Of The Basement. In the scene, Margaret chopped her “dad” (the dad in air quotes is a plant pretending to be her dad) in half and the book describes the Ennards. Here’s the scene.
The capless Dr. Brewer moved quickly. He picked up the axe, took three steps forward, pulled the axe back, and swung it with all his might. The Dr. Brewer in the cap opened his mouth wide and uttered a hushed cry of alarm. The cry was choked off as the axe cut easily through his body, slicing it in two. A thick green liquid oozed from the wound. And as the man fell, his mouth locking up in disbelief and horror, Margaret could see that his body was actually a stem. He had no bones, no human organs. The body thudded to the floor. Green liquid puddled around it.
And that’s it. When looking for the scene, I was reminded of the plants with faces and arms, which is also disturbing.

Great video man. I can agree with the #1 pick. The Piano Girl also creeped me out as a kid.
2 I would included are the werewolves chasing the MC at the end of Werewolf Skin - not particularly disturbing but that scene was wrought with suspense and it scared tf out of me as a kid, lol.
And the other one is the dog attacking its owner/the MC in Ghost in the Mirror. The whole first half of that book is the scariest thing Stine has ever wrote, imo.

I read ghost in the mirror years ago, I'm anxious to get back to it on a re read here soon! And nice, I also haven't touched werewolf skin yet either!

Headless Halloween is my absolute favorite Goosebumps as well! As someone who loves Halloween, it was awesome from the very begining to the very end for me. And even if the whole book is just a chain of disturbing events, the final one is the most messed up by far, but I just loved it!
Talking about the most disturbing Goosebumps books, Fright Camp (from series 2000) was quite something as well. Only the fact that the story takes place in a horror movie themed camp gave me a strange feeling at first, and what's going on in here is totally messed up from the begining to the end. Some scenes were very unsettling to read...

Who's Your Mummy from Goosebumps Horrorland has to be mentioned. In that the villains keep people alive for centuries, simply having them locked away in coffins so they can be eaten little bit by little bit every day. In one specific scene these people locked away and to be eaten for hundreds of years beg the main characters to please kill them. It is suggested that they beg for this death every night. Messed up story, just messed up.

When Joey stuck the fork in his neck, it is sticking in his Adam's Apple or just the side Of his neck Cause that is intent. I would have loved to see that in a goosebumps T V show

Hey! I love you channel! I have a request tho. Do you think you can try to review give yourself goosebumps? I red the og, series 2000 and horrorland series but I only vivid remember reading a peanut butter that grows or shrinks you or shrinks you or whatever. It’s ok if you don’t want to that’s fine, it’s pretty much impossible to review a choose your own adventure book.

Not in the book, but a "game over" sequence in the Goosebumps Point & Click game.
I found it horrific that an enraged Slappy ruthlessly jumps onto the main characters head, essentially turning their face into a meaty salsa.

They ended up republishing The Haunted Car in the Classic Goosebumps book series where they took others and gave them different artwork. Also as for any disturbing scenes I can think of is the one in Deep Trouble II where Sheena gets attacked by giant jellyfish plus what happens to Spidey in Say Cheese and Die!. Not to mention the ending of the episode of Piano Lessons Can Be Murder was pretty freaky.

By far, the most horrific goosebumps scene is the opening to a somewhat newer book, Wanted: The Haunted Mask. I won't even spoil what happens, check it out for yourself. Also, somebody else already mentioned it, but the happy tooth game scene from return to horrorland is another great contender.

I thought the piano teacher's fate in Piano Lessons Can Be Murder was much more disturbing.
The ending to Escape from Shudder Mountain is messed up on all levels. The kids have to reset the horrors they experience throughout the book at the end for what feels like an infinite time loop, and the worst parent. It is implied their parents knew the entire time .... ?!
A bad ending in Give Yourself Goosebumps: the Knight in Screaming Armor is also disturbing. You and your two cousins (who are jerks) are babies, but for some unexplainable circumstance. Only your cousins get to revert back to their original ages, you have to remain a baby, and what is worst is your fate is unclear. If you will stay that way forever, if you will de-age further into nothing, if you will eventually grow up. It is very messed up if you think about it.

    • @MidnightChronicler
