Corrigan Rd Level Crossing, Noble Park, Before Upgrade

- This is the Corrigan Rd level crossing in Noble Park, on the Dandenong corridor, with footage I took in October 2016 and January 2017. This crossing has since been grade seperated, with trains running over the new Corrigan Rd rail bridge on the 15th February 2018.
At the time I filmed this crossing, it had:
- Two Westinghouse Hybrid bells. Unfortunately, these bells were replaced with General Signals Type 3 E-bells. Both bells were programmed to sound continuously until the boom gates rise.
- A McKenzie & Holland teardrop bell, which did not work. This made it the last level crossing on the Melbourne Metropolitan network to have a teardrop bell (regardless of whether it worked or not), after the teardrop bell at Marshall St, Ivanhoe, was replaced in February 2017.
- McKenzie & Holland lights and cross-arms on most of crossing, except for sets attached to each boom gate, which had WRRS cross-arms and Western Cullen Hayes lights, and those on the cantilevers, which had Westinghouse lights on McKenzie & Holland cross-arms. Unfortunately, I did not film close-ups of all the lights, so I'm not sure which lights were marked and unmarked, except for the southern cantilever which had an old marked Westinghouse light and an old unmarked Westinghouse light (I only know this from recent footage I took)
- Westinghouse boom gate mechanisms with Westinghouse bases.
- Westinghouse pedestrian boom gate mechanisms
In between the period of October and January, when I took this footage, the teardrop bell had a yellow cross painted on it. It’s anyone’s guess what this means.
Stuart, I’m so glad that you got the teardrop bell from this crossing and it wasn’t scrapped.
Hehe I am too!
When I was a lad, there was no lights, bells or booms on that crossing, let alone traffic lights. Just the "railway crossing" cross, and the old red triangle on the pole. The old red rattlers would go screaming down the hill towards Noble Park bouncing around all over the place when in them. Then there was a multiple fatality car/train accident there. They then put in lights and bells, no booms. Would have been mid 1960's or thereabouts.
XD the lights on the gates are upside down!
piktureit that’s what they did on the wishbone Crossing Gates But now they have the new ones and there on the top
This is the first video I watched in my life when I saw this channel and also I like you filming the other side
Corrigan Road Noble Park has been removed but was on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines
on the other side there's right side lights with red blinkers
i actually add your recording of the teardrop bell of the crossing to see something like a bell combo, credit to you btw
No worries, go right ahead :)
Shame the teardrop bell doesn't ring, it looks great. The cantelivers look cool too!

Yeah it is a pity, but I think it's been programmed not to ring for many years haha
They've got similar cantilevers at Murrumbeena.
The cantilevers used to be standard in Melbourne from the early 60's to the late 70's for use with traffic lights. They were usually painted yellow but the crossings had them a silver shade. There's still a lot of the traffic lights cantilevers left, but Heatherton Road, Corrigan Road and Murrumbeena Roads might be the last ones that still have the 60's/70's crossing mast.
This is a rare set up the bell is usually on a back crossing near these type crossings the gate is connected to the pole which is very rare
Great video! How common are WCH 8 inch lights over there in Victoria? One of the pedestrian gates also rose rather slowly in the second video!
Thanks :) Well I THINK WCH lights are rare. Most of them in Victoria are Westinghouse lights, but I don't know enough to be sure. Yeah I saw that too. Must be close to retirement age
old train track at noble park now got the skyrail
If you look carefully, one of the boom gates is painted black at the top (must of been a B&W gate at one point).
Lack of attention to detail alright, whoops
0:24 nice that is has a 3rd bell that is a McKenzie and holland one!
1:08 what's the point of the McKenzie and Holland bell if it can't be heard over the Westinghouse bells?
3:26 that's a nice horn!
3:48 that one pedestrain gate is really slower than the other!
5:34 So I guess that means the McKenzie and holland bell isn't used!
No unfortunately the teardrop bell doesn't work, and it's probably been that way for many years. It always leads to the question of why it's still there!
what I think is that the teardrop bell is working but just not hooked up to the relays so it doesn't sound
Awesome Video!
Cool seeing USA signals in Australia
Why does the back of the teardrop bell have a yellow "X" on it?
It's anyone's guess, but usually a cross is bad news
Considering that it doesn't sound like it's working leads me to believe that it's dead.
GrnArrow092 unless power has been cut to it and they just left it there
Really nice crossing with a very interesting variety of equipment. It's nice seeing the WCH lights, are they rare in Melbourne? Usually a cross painted on something means it has been condemned and is going to be removed, not sure why they would bother removing the teardrop bell now unless the cantilever is going to be relocated for the construction works. I guess the whole crossing has a big cross painted on it somewhere! Great video.
McK&H Aust i wander what the westinghouse hybrid and teardrop bell would sound like together
Yeah it really is a multi-cultural crossing. Quite a unique layout! I think WCH lights are rare. Most of them in Victoria are Westinghouse lights, but I don't know enough to be sure. I can understand them not bothering to reinstall the teardrop bell if they temporarily remove the cantilevers, but I'm not sure they will. Afterall, it's gonna become skyrail and they won't need a road bridge built
Max Grawe they sound nice together, just like the crossing was at Ivanhoe. I may do a video some day when I have the time.
I found Westinghouse lights mounted in WRRS brackets at the Progress Street crossing.
Guess what, they've replaced the hybrid bells at this with E-Bells! Metro is that STUPID! The good news, the Teardrop has been left alone.
A railway crossing in noble park
Wish I could have the westinghouse hybrid bells that the railways don't use.
I wish I could have them all too!
The bell has to be high on the back crossing
there are e bells at this crossing now
