    This is beyond wonderful. I've heard this before many times, but never like this. I'm pretty old (74 1/2 and counting) and fell in love with classical music when it was available in small towns where I lived only on the backs of children's music (yellow discs the size of the later 45 RPMs, but 78 RPM which all there was at the time). Amazing how one person with incredible talent (you) can can change a lifetime of feeling about particular compositions. For me, this was even more striking with the Liszt piece which you recently posted. Many, many thanks.

    Beautiful interpretation. Some people play his music too slow(which can be deadly) and sacrifice the passion and impetuosity of his music for more lyric and patrician approach. (His gorgeous piano concerto in A minor is often marred by this style of playing.) You got the crazy Schumann that I love. He is one of most elusive composers to interpret. And you nailed it here! Bravo Valentina!

  • @willemeret2398
    @willemeret2398 Před 4 lety +5

    This interpretation was awesome, bravo! Schumann seems to be one of the hardest composers to play! His music is so nuanced, his rhythmic structure was so unique with so much different voicing. The music just looks funky on sheet too, but when played there’s these amazing intertwined melodies-like blowing leaves in the wind. I believe you brought this out wonderfully, thank you!

    Je m'attendais à une interprétation aussi romantique et passionnée de Valentina dans ces Etudes Symphoniques de Schumann, après Beethoven, Chopin, Lizst, Rachmaninoff. • @ffwwooggyy
    @ffwwooggyy Před 9 lety +2

    Valentina is creating the piece at the moment she plays it. She put Schumann aside and she is the composer. She abandoned the script and the black dots and lines on the pages and she gives it new life. That is the essence of performing great music. and that is how all the performers should be. Not how it is supposed to be like the teachers told us , but how it can talk to you even if it takes to change the score . Excellent !

  • @tootiebopcreations91

    What is so amazing is how her playing can have so much impact. I mean it goes beyond complimentary and appreciation. It’s a cure for the ill, melody for the feel, excitement to get your thrill. She plays above the composition creators themselves. It’s a timeless, elegant and enchanting experience for anyone who is alive. I play piano because of her. I mean it. It’s because of the love of it I have now. I don’t want to be the best at something Ike I used to with all other endeavors. I just want to close my eyes and touch the keys and here the beautiful thing that come out! :). I’m so happy because of it :)

    that variation at 13:00 so shiny and colorfull. It resembles to me something really innocent and its real contrast with the mood of the other variations in the opus.

    • @thinkermanmusic
      @thinkermanmusic Před 5 lety

      Absolutely love that variation. One of those wonders of Schumann's delicacy. With him it's never empty sentimentalism; there are always multiple layers, in this case for example the brilliant polyphonic lines.

    • @thinkermanmusic
      @thinkermanmusic Před 5 lety

      Oh, and regarding the contrast with the other pieces: I think it also has to do with the fact that Schumann switches to major at that point. The piece overall is in C sharp minor, but that part is in major. I don't have the score here, but I'm guessing it's written down in D flat major (C sharp major would be just ridiculous with stuff like E sharps).

    Oh my gosh!! - I never knew that the music of Schumann could be so beautiful yet, emotionally strong and expressive. And I bet that my most very favorite classical pianist here (which MEANS A LOT for me to even say that) is having much to do with the impression of his music on me in this video. Example to my point: Since I first heard Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata Op.27 No.2 Mov.1,2,3 (The Goldberg Variations) in the 1980's, I've not cared for anyone elses interpretations of them until I finally heard Valentina's in 2017. Thank you mam so, so very much for what you do!!

    This is the best I've heard.
    The technical challenges of these etudes are substantial; and even as other pianists master them, they dominate the interpretation.
    Lisitsa's is the only interpretation where the technicality lies completely in the background, so that the full poetry of Schumann comes through, seemingly effortlessly.
    On some other pieces, I find Lisitsa's interpretations less seductive and imaginative that those of other pianists.
    But not here: I don't really want to list to any other interpretations of the symphonic etudes after this!

    Thanks, Valentina. A wonderful and splendid study of Schumann music. You are play this piece at level of Richter or Brendel. Great. Madrid waiting for you.

    Extremely fresh, inspiring and - what's the best - non-traditional (in a good way) interpretation! Made me look on the op. 13 kinda from another side and love it even more!
    Any plans for more Schumann? (Fantasie, Davidsbundlertanze, Kreisleriana...?)
    P.s. Still waiting for your concert in Moscow one day:))

      ValentinaLisitsa You were fantastic Val! The sold out theatre audience thought so, as well, as we all came out of our seats with thunderous applause! Come back soon and best wishes as you continue to give excellence with your performances.
