Sweet intro bud.
When you leave the Weed Tea to steep....do you put a cover on it ...so it doesn't turn into a mosquito breeding ground?
I LOVE your captioning of your song ("Bay buh")
Aloha Mr. Good. Ty soooo much! TWO questions please. #1...Is your book available in e.format ? #2 ... I'm on Maui and apparently everything i see is poisonous or toxic in some way. Where can I get info about what NOT to compost in the tropics ? I dont have time to become an Horti??? I'm confused, scared and about to give up. 😥
I let one single weed take over my entire backyard this year in Arizona. I just removed it this week. It was a ground cover weed at least 25ft across. It started growing when I drained my pond water into my fire pit. It grew ferociously for 5 months, growing up the walls and onto my porch! I wanted to push that weed to an extreme that I didn’t know was possible. Thousands of little flowers. And it became a feeding ground for dozens of little birds. Of course it couldn’t have been possible without God’s generous supply of rain water this summer !
That is amazing.
I wish I could do that!!! My neighbors would have a fit! lol. I don't see them as weeds but society does! Which is probably why we have such a big nature imbalance going on! The bees are disappearing....I make sure to leave the "weeds" until after they flower. So the bees have something until the other flowers come out. 😁
I love it! I let certain weeds take over temporarily for various beneficial reasons.
Can you tell us what your wonderful weed is? Your story sounds like a Shel Silverstein song lol 😅👍👏
@@Sunny-jz3dy AMEN!
@@iahelcathartesaura3887 I leave the dandelions, clover, yellow rocket...& a few others that flower but not the sure what they are called! lol.
Yup, 40 year gardener here and that’s how I feel about my weeds. Green gold. I use all of your techniques and even grow a weed garden where I allow certain weeds to grow and then I mulch them with grass and leaf mold and compost. They are absolutely stunning and in flowering stage, the insects love them as do I. I tell people the birds planted the garden while the plant devas tend to them and I water and mulch around them.
That is fantastic.
That’s what I’m talking about! They break down pretty fast.
I remember learning that weeds are full of nutrients and my first thought was how do I get to use that to my advantage in the garden? Then I learned about compost tea. I’ve actually made gallons of it, but never used because of fear of killing my plants. So, David the Good just answered my question…to dilute or not dilute! I’ll begin experimenting with both! Thanks, David!

Come for the gardening tips; stay for the music. 🤣❤️
The ole permaculture adage “the problem is the solution.” My first job out of college was as a weeder on a 16 acre daylily breeder’s farms. We made massive piles that rotted down into great soil.
Day lily farm? You must be in east Texas.

Gotta give you thumbs up straight away👍 Just for the weed song Alone!👊🤣👌✨
KEY TIP: If you call or stop by your local lumber company, they may just have giant FREE tarps that come covering their lumber deliveries. They are not always in perfect condition, but they are AMAZING for heating up your compost piles (or your freshly mulched beds) that will force any weed seeds to germinate fast. Leave the tarp on longer than that, and you will cook them. Ta Da, seed free mulch! Use the black (or darkest color possible) side up to produce the most heat. You can also cut these traps to the exact size of your raised beds and reuse them every Winter. Just clear and mulch your beds in the Fall, tarp them for the Winter, and by Spring you can just remove your tarps and start planting ! The more prep you do in the Fall, the less rushing around you have to do in the Early Spring. Happy gardening!
I heard once that weeds are the BandAids for bare ground.
Hi David. I don't 'weed's anymore. I 'harvest high value nitrogen.' Yep, it gets composted in my "Compost Everything" pile. Spoiled milk, meat, stale breads and chips, old dry beans and pasta, ALL OF THE KITCHEN SCRAPS go in that compost.👍😎👍
Wait what?! Even meat and cooked things? What about let's say.....leftover breakfast, Oatmeal? Eggs (cooked)?
@@CG-mj8tk Yes those items too
@@lucypearlmorgan3115 do you have to compost at first I can just put it directly in your garden bed?
Give your ideas a try and see what happens!
@@CG-mj8tk Yes...that is what he proposes whereas typical compost books or advice is to leave off the meat. I've always ignored it, though, and thrown it in anyway. :) Same with oil and grease, etc. I figure if it came from the earth and can decompose, why not?
I like to use a modified version of #5. I'll call it the "Pull and drop." You pull the weeds up so you get the roots out of the ground and then you drop 'em to slowly add back to the soil.
Depending on the weed, unless you cut the roots off or make sure there is no ground contact, they can re-root right there unless you bury it under cardboard.
That opening had me 😅! Great video. I got a torch because of you... need a little rain though, the woods are getting to grow back faster than I can clear the left over logging wood on the ground. I don't want to be that person who has to call the fire department, lol!
Excellent content today, DTG! Love it! Btw, my best friend's son asked me, "have you ever heard of David the Good"? My beaming smile said it all! "...as a matter of fact..." Thanks for all you do...sharing your knowledge & humor have been a great blessing to me!
Aw, that's cool. Thank you.
My new neighbor and I were discussing our garden plans, and we both referenced David!
Thank u for verifying what I thought should be possible… people don’t understand how important weeds actually are
I have the same wagon. It’s about 20 years old. It has a slightly turned under wheel and gets used for the same thing as your using yours for because the original user has grown out of it. She has provided a replacement thankfully so it can go back to its intended use.
I use my great nephew's toy wagon to keep my porch plants up off the hot concrete and transport things around the yard.its about 12 years old now.
i do grass beds on cardboard,i dont pick or chop weeds anymore ever..Compost in place baby! Life is good
The mace to the face made me laugh out loud, freak in hilarious.
Thank you David and family. :)
When is your Garden row book going to print? I've got the Kindle version but I still love a "real" book in hand.
Yes lol
I think weeds, because they flourish where no other plant wants to grow, have something special to offer as compost. Awesome! Never remove any plant from the property! Thats just throwing away nutrients!
I agree.
Definitely Have been using the drop method or put them in a pile in the garden - my sandy soil needs every bit of humus I can get it.
@@beckypetersen2680 Being on sandy soil, I totally agree. I've been chopping and dropping for years, and it seems that no matter how much I do, it just disappears into the sand. But it has to be doing some good, right? I've used my loquat tree which is at the back of the property as my yard dump. cut up branches all get put around it. The tree is gorgeous. Now, if the squirrels would just let me have some loquats, that would be great. Do squirrels make good mulch?😁
I upcycled my kids' old wagon for gardening too! My heart is happy to see that I'm not the only one!
This year I've been using them as a straw-like mulch on my annual beds. I'll rake in the seeds and lay the pulled weeds in a thin layer, which retains moisture long enough for the seeds to germinate while withering away enough in time to allow the seedlings to poke through.
I have learned to love my weeds. In my food forest / garden area I compost the grass weeds, chop and drop the invasive germs, while letting the clover, plantain, self heal, violets and purslane stay for food and medicinal benefits, and great for pollinators.
This is one of the most helpful gardening videos on YT. Thank you!
Thank you very much.
My first time seeing any of your videos, thank you.
So intelligent to use what's causing problems, to fertilize with, these uses for weeds are great. I loved the song and humor, but especially like feeding your enemies to your plants. Thanks for sharing!
Welcome!
Your're only as good as your camera lady David the good! ; ) Great production to you all!
I learned a lot about composting weeds , thanks 😊 🙏
I learn so much from you! And with humor and song.
Thank you, Diana.
This was very neat!!! I live on 5 acres of powdery, hard, lime stone white clay. Nothing grows in it, but we cut the few grasses it grows and gather bags of leaves and clippings from neighborhoods and spread them all over the yard...it has made a huge difference from the time we moved in 15 years ago. Thank you!!
I know, here in Poland I've asked neighbors for their grass clippings. I simply don't understand why people destroy them or send them to the city compost when they could use them as fertilizer.
Ok David, I'm watching, you know I've been complaining about a boatload of Oxalis! It makes me break out ( like poison ivy), so I'm here to learn to turn the table 😳🙄🤪🎯
I totally love your approach to gardening!
The song in the beginning is banging. Nice job
Great and complete video. Thanks!!
David you are blessing for the entire world ! Keep up the good work!

Amazing video! Thank you for this. 👍🏻
How are you NOT pulling 350K subscribers, dude?? Ordered a compost your enemies t-shirt. You rock!
Thank you.
Sneaky, dishonest algorithms.....
I loved this so much .
I recently learned that most of the weeds we have, are edible (if they’re harvested early). I’ve been stumped on what to do with them after I’ve pulled them out or cut them down because I don’t want weeds growing in our compost. All of my weed anxiety vanished while watching this video 🥰👏🏻😁 Thank you! This is a gem❣️👊🏻
Eat your weeds checkout a good identifying video of simple ones to identify as food and slowly add to your diet while their other parts are being used as mulch,if you've got chickens give them purslane and don't forget to save some seeds for next year!
This was such an excellent video! Love the idea of getting to know your weeds and use them! So many amazing ideas here. Gratitude to you for taking the time to make these amazing videos! We are so stoked to get planting. Gonna start our seedlings soon. Green house will be going up too, so hopefully once they start to sprout up, we can take them out to the green house. Big love from Missouri. - Erin + Brian

Thank you, Austin.
One of your best!
Learned something, thank you
Great information..thankyou..I love my weeds4 compost.
This made me feel much more hopeful about my suburban backyard garden- I've been burying kitchen scraps in the bare dirt where the previous owners of my home removed a tree since we moved in but I'm just now trying to grow a garden and I'm intimated 😅
Yep! I’m inspired!
I've drowned my weeds in containers for yrs. Wait a few weeks then throw the whole gluggy mess back onto the garden. I also throw weeds onto my lawn then mow them up and throw over my garden. My grass isn't actually grass either. Its weeds... I use it as mulch anyway. I use silverbeet leaves as mulch or "tea" as I have so many leaves that no one wants. Excellent video
My new favorite channel. Thanks for the video
Thank you.
Just love listening to you all the time. Thanks for being there. Walzy-green from Nigeria appreciate you so much
