      @@EverythingPadel No I don't think so. You are there to play, improve and that means endure the same conditions as tournament play would provide if that is what you and your friends want to do.. The whole idea of banning something from social play because it was voiced in a CZcams video seems to completely contradict the term social to me. To call this tactic controversial because of fights seems somewhat childish to me. It's within the rules. If you don't like it invent your own sport. Who says that padel is a sport where each person should carry half the burden instead of each having to carry it twice. Also if your partner is getting alll the balls it's his/her job to apply pressure and make the opponents return a shot from a difficult position which is difficult to place. That way a person can get out of the fridge naturally. It's something that you and your team mate have to figure out.

      This is totally acceptable and a common tactic in a tournament or a league match. The common thing to counter this is playing down the middle or return the favour of the Fridge. Same if you find weaknesses in someone’s backhand etc…
      However agree with you during social matches that this shouldn’t be used. Everyone had paid for the session and wants their training time so therefore it’s a bit more frowned upon. However if this is still being used then implement similar tactics to involve your partner in the game

    Easy way to deal with fridge is have the guy getting all the balls constantly caress the net and the guy in the fridge stay at the back of the court. The other team is gonna want to give balls to the guy in the back of the court (number 1 rule in padel) or lose. The tactic is legit in well leveled matches.

    • @josepmontesinos1994
      @josepmontesinos1994 Před rokem +5

      @@EverythingPadel It always works. If you are put in the fridge, go back, wait behind the line and you will even have the chance to get all the balls in the middle, as your partner will want a bit of a break and you'll have more time to move there than if you are stuck at the net. I don't like this tactic in social matches, as it defeats the "social" aspect. In tournements, no merci; anything goes within the rules.

    This is totally valid and within the rules, but I think it depends on the players how effective it will be. It is not so easy to target every ball to the same side either, so if they are using this strategy on you, play balls to the player in front, avoid the crossing one. For example, if you are playing on the right side, aim at the player on their left side, playing this kind of balls is more difficult.

    This happened to me in Pickleball. In one rally I was fridged for a solid 5 or 6 hits in a row and when the ball finally did come to me, I messed up an easy play. If it happens in rec play, I would avoid playing with that pair in the future. In tournament play, you should try to have players of more equal abilities where fridging becomes less likely because it just restricts the opponents to half a court.

    I think the real problem is players playing padel as if it were an individual rather than a team sport. I'm fairly high level and still play with/against loads of people who won't discuss tactica with their partner.
    Opposing team doing a nevera? The active player needs to net rush and play heavy parallel shots. "Snowed in" player needs to pick up the middle of the court. It's an effective tactic but by no means does it break the game.

    What about body shots? Are they used much on padel? In high level tennis doubles sometimes is easier to aim the guy on the net at point blank since they dont have time to react... maybe in padel is easier to defend? At the same time you are more likely to be closer to the net (?)

      This. In the examples used here the other player's shots were so weak that it was easy to leave the partner in the fridge. It's not happening if all players are more or less equal in ability.

  • @rstubbington
    @rstubbington Před rokem +1

    I see very little problem with this. If you're playing to win it is instinctive to play to the weakest link...I'd say it's not even always a conscious ploy, but just the 'safe' shot. As someone else said....send the targeted player to the net and the stronger player drop back for a few shots, let the stronger player engineer a position of strength, and then capitalise.

  • @TheNeilhillman
    @TheNeilhillman Před rokem +1

    Let’s be honest. This will not change. If you play rugby and the fullback can’t take a high ball. The next phase is going to be 9,10, high ball. If you play football and the centre back is 5’4, you know you’re going long balls into the box all day. It’s part of sport. When I’m the weaker player I get pelted. If I’m playing well and can’t miss at my level and my partner is not having much luck I get put in the fridge. It’s how you deal with it that is more important. In my opinion only. I tend to play on the left, but if I was playing on the right I would have no issues with my attacker coming from the left to intercept a killer volley coming to me if it helps me out. But again, at recreational level I hear a lot of partners arguing about moving into each others halves. I did like the idea of mirroring the fridge cross court though. Not something I’ve tried, but something I will definitely consider in future. In summary… like all sports, part of being a good player is identifying weaknesses in the opposition and trying to execute a strategy that exposes them. If you’re not going to do that, It’s not competitive. Good video that. 👍

    All fine in a competitive match. All part of beating the opponents technically, tactically and mentally. One element is that by targeting one player you may actually be playing an un-natural shot which could bring risk into your game.

  • @andrewwelsh6814
    @andrewwelsh6814 Před rokem +1

    I have no problem with this rule, in all competitive sports you play to your strengths and expose your opponents weaknesses, in a friendly I just cant see the point your there for pure fun. If I am frozen out for a bit use it to rest, if I am the one getting all the shots great that's why I play and pay my court fee.

    Today I played a mixed match "boy + girl" vs "boy + girl". It was a competitive match on Playtomic and they put me in the fridge. I got totally frustrated. I accepted it until a certain point, the line that has been crossed is when all the guy smashes went on the girl. they were not even good smashes, they bounced high from the glass and if they were shot in my direction I would have sent back all of them. I got so pissed. It was the first time that I went home 10 minutes before the end of the time, at the end of the third set. Also, if you have already won the first set, if you have some decency at least on second set you try to be more fair in my opinion. On the other side 2 weeks ago we put one of our opponent in the fridge (it was all boys this time), but this was to achieve some sort of balance, we ended 1 set each and the third set finished 5-5 because we ran out of time. I would keep in account if the fridge is helping the balance of the game or give you a easy walkover.

  • @DIGZDIGZDIGZ
    @DIGZDIGZDIGZ Před rokem

    I think fridging is fine in any competitive games (tournaments, leagues or any competitive playtomic game for points).
    In my experience i've played a lot of beginner players who partner with people who are amazing (thinking a 1.0 rated player with a 3.5 is my most recent game)... in that case it's hard not to target the obviously weaker side.
    As for the comment on not smashing it at women... seems a bit wrong, if thats the best shot for the moment then take it, they have as much right to face your best shots as the man does and ive played with a lot of women who are a lot better than some men i've played with.

  • @sebulbathx
    @sebulbathx Před rokem +1

    Tbh I think it's a boring tactic to play even if it's really effective. I played a match in a league and we had to win three sets in order to move up to a higher league and we knew one player was worse than the other so we played about 85% of the ball to that guy. The tactic worked and we won the three sets needed. After the other guy complained about it although no fight broke out but since the match was important to win we didn't care if he got mad or whatever. And to be honest it felt like a good sign he got mad because first we did win the match but also we were able to make a tactic work which isn't always that easy for us.
    But in training or social matches I think it's not ok it's really bad but in any type of matches where points or something is rewarded then the fridge is ok, imo.
