  • Nowhere is Christ’s vicarious suffering so clearly stated as in the institution of Communion. The first instance of communion happened on the night Jesus was betrayed, and in connection with Passover. Christ made a declaration of establishing the parts and the essentials features. He named the elements to be used, the action required, and the reason.
Why do Christians still take Communion today? To signify to believers all the benefits of the new covenant. To commemorate the death of Christ. This remembrance involves the use of tangible elements. In this remembering we also proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes again.
Communion has past, present, and future aspects. It’s not about the bread and the cup; it’s about the body and blood of Jesus. Communion is not an obligation, but a celebration. Communion celebrates the Gospel: Jesus was broken for us so that we can be fixed by Him. He is the One who provides all we need.
    Luke 22:19; Matthew 26:28-29; Luke 22:15; 1Corinthians 11:23-32
