  • Last of the Goldstar crankcase repair series. Showing final milling of the platform for the magdyno, and milling the slots for the 4 pegs. Probably not the greatest way to machine the slots but I got there eventually. I would have liked a crisper edge to the joint ideally but it is hidden by the mag.

My B33 has this same problem. I've wondered what a proper fix looks like.

Hi, a question. I was asked to supply a small piece of gasket material for someone to make a magneto platform gasket. I do know from the parts list that this gasket was never listed as a spare part. Now that I have watched all three videos, I am thinking that the person who I supplied the gasket material to either wants it to make a waterproof joint or to compensate for a skimmed magneto platform.
    Any thoughts on this please.

It sounds like they wanted to clamp the magdyno on a worn case, there is certainly no requirement to seal this area. I have seen brass and aluminium shims made to compensate for wear and adjust gear mesh or chain tension depending on the maker or model. The original strap clamping method wasn't great but that was the technology of the day, seems to work if it's kept tight. The manufacturers who bolted the mag down seem to fare better. Thanks for commenting, best wishes, Ade

I hope this is your engine. It's clear that you are an amateur engineer, and it's a shame to practice on such a valuable engine.
