I know some people don't like to summon the npcs, but I thought that was the coolest part. It's like your leading a charge into a great battle

An item description you get from his rune is that he learned gravity magic just so he could ride his little horse. It’s an adorable little tale, for such a monster of a boss.
That explains why he can ice skate across my screen so effortlessly

I wonder if the fight we're a bit different like if his second phase started with a cutscene that shows his horse dieing in front of him and ends up going into a blind rage and started to use everything at his disposal to kill the person that ended his one and only companions life

I love that the true intention of the festival and of all of the warriors was not getting glory for defeating a powerful demigod and getting an Elden rune... but it was to give him the honorable death he wanted and needed
It was the kind of death a absolute legend like him deserved.
He learnt gravity magic so he could still ride his beloved horse,
He held up the stars themselves to protect the Lands Between,
He fought Miquella to a standstill, who mind you, is basically a super boss for us, and she was forced to basically nuke the entirety of Caelid, which STILL DIDN’T KILL HIM.
This absolute Chad of a demigod deserved nothing more than to go out in style, fighting an army of the greatest warriors the Lands Between had left to offer.
Rest in piece, Radahn, you magnificent bastard.

This guy might actually be one of the most powerful bosses in terms of story from abs ever put out. Dude was literally conquerer of the stars.
It's stated that Stars don't move because Radahn holds ALL OF THEM IN PLACE with his magic, hence when you defeat him, you see a starfall, concequence of his power fading.

In Radahns text it states that he learned gravity magics young so he didn't have to leave his scrawny horse behind so apparently the horse was always like that. Still doesn't explain how he turns into a fooking star tho.

For people asking what's with the horse. Radahn took care of his horse from a young age, yet due to the horse scrawny nature, Radahn learned gravitational magic so he won't need to leave his horse. The horse probably doesn't feel his weight but helps him move around the battlefield (notice the missing feet on Radahn).
I think to most of the NPCs, the fight is more of way to honor him rather than simply taking a great rune or opening up the eternal city.

Radahn is overtaken by the Scarlet rot and doesn't use much of his gravity magic on the horse in the fight due to not having the conscience to do so, and because of that the horse is very overworked. You can see this in the cutscene before you fight him

I think the scarlet rot took his feet, just my guess cause it wouldn't make sense for him to always have no feet.
The undefeated Blade of Miquella couldn't kill him and had to resort to the Scarlet Rot, which still couldn't kill him.
Even now, whit his wits long gone, he still fights with insane power and is able to keep a star floating.
Radahn was a fucking monster.

That divebomb move is absolutely terrifying every time. The sound design in this game is sublime.
Might be that I'm biased but I think MH's Valstrax has a better divebomb. I'm sure that's what they got the idea for his move from which is awesome

I don't think its decades. You've got tl remember that a whole fucking age has past between the Shattering and the present. So I think the horsr has been by Radhan's side for centuries, if not millennia

His whole thing really pushes for you to fight him with the 6 other summons, sucks tbh cause I think the fight Could've been better.

@@bohhoco9723 you got the rot breath attack from the dragon alter in caelid? He's weak to rot and it deals a lot of rot damage over time.
I also recommend using rot resins as well if you plan on not sitting in the back while your summons be meat shields.
Edit: adding that you don't have to have a lot of FP to cast the rot breath spell, you can get it off twice with base fp if you went vagabond or samurai, I'd recommend bringing one cerulean flask to refill your fp after the rot is gone so you can reapply it.

I realized this is not simply a boss battle for us to overcome an evil. It is supposed to be a ritual to honor Radahn by having him go out in a battle like a warrior. It's open to every challenger who wants to defeat him by any means because he's still a demigod, making it honorable and fair.
The fight is not centered around difficulty if you think about it. It's the spectacle, cinematics, and storytelling.
What matters the most is helping the ever-noble demigod finally find his long overdue peace after being at war with himself.
ikr the way they hype him up when you and all the boys pull up, and then arriving to the opening salvo from Big R's bow is just amazing

I like the fact that when you defeat Radahn, it doesn't even say that "Enemy Felled" like other bosses. He wasn't your enemy in the first place.
That was actually just an oversight that got fixed. Other shardbearers and even some cave bosses didn’t display a message either. Now it says “Demigod Felled” for them.
I love Radahn.
He learned Gravity Magic so he wouldn't have to leave his horse Leonard behind, and as he did so he was able to hold ALL the stars in place with his magic and protected the innocence of Limgrave from the falling star that opened up Nokron. Even cooler is that he did this when Malenia had sacrificed everything to kill him, by infecting him an 1/5th of The Lands Between with Scarlet Rot. She gave in to the Scarlet Rot and essentially lost her purpose to even try and defeat Radahn, and she wasn't fully successful because he didn't die. Malenia had to retreat in the end, and Radahn is so respected that they held a Festival just to give him a honourable death. Truly one of the greatest of the Demi-gods.

Malenia's dialogue in the cutscene also implied the same thing. She eats people and has very little sanity left. Both Radahn and Malenia living with such horrifying existence.

Someone said that in the lore, Radahn learned gravity magic at an early age so he could ride his scrawny horse. I think that's quite a cute and wholesome but sad little story. Sad because of what he has become now and what he's doing to his horse.
He still doesn't eat his horse, even though he's lost his mind and eat friend and for alike. I say his love for his horse is just that pure.

Although he's clearly making his horse suffer, it's clearly just because he's already crazy but like you said, his horse is still here so it means despite being too gone, somehow there's still a part of him that has the love for his horse that continues to linger on. That's both wholesome and makes it sadder even more.

the buildup to the radahn fight was one of the most immersive, incredible game experiences i've ever had, it felt so cinematic and climactic, like you were really about to go fight a god... i know some people don't like summoning or fighting on horseback but that was the most awesome way to fight him: charging into battle with a small army on your trusty steed... this fight was a fucking masterpiece
Idk the summons were too cheesy for me, I fought him head on but tried summons once and it was cool. Like how you could fight him however you wanted and weren’t forced to play with or without allies

I defeated him without ashes, but I was riding Torrent. Seeing this video killing him on foot made me question if I am playing it on easy mode. But anyways, it was incredibly fun!

This feels like an Armored Core boss fight with the way you start off in a _huge_ level while so far away from the boss, dodging its fast projectiles as you try to close the distance as fast as possible

He looks like Sif and Artorias combined together tho
Elden Ring is so fun because I’m noticing a lot of little references to From’s earlier works & Berserk inspirations, alongside ASoIaF GRRMesque elements. Like, Blaidd is the obvious Guts expy, but Radahn’s this cool fusion of Zodd & Gaiseric. And another boss totally has Skull Knight’s behelit sword, but they’re a grotesque apostle-like being. And all the implied family drama between the demigods leans way closer to GRRM’s stuff than Miyazaki’s.

Dodging the beams and arrows as you get in close enough to deal damage is an awesome design choice. The vast and barren arena in combination with this reminds me a lot of fighting the arms forts in Armored Core For Answer. Whether it was intentional or not, it’s cool to find things like this in the game that demonstrates everything FromSoft has learned over the years. Truly a masterpiece.
Those arent arrows, those are apparently spears from the fight with malenia and her army dropped by those knights you farm the spear from.

@@apsychos7532 His moveset is really cool, but it suffers from bad camera angles. I had to use summons and melee to kill him. My next play-through i'll without summons once i actually have weapons that can do damage lol.

Also they wanted you to fight him with like 6 other summons like it's an mmo but it's not the end of the world.

@@wolfkanji Nah hes fine. Can easily kill him without summons. I got him to like 30% at level 55 on a few attempts. Just didint feel like spending an eternity on him.
Spent the whole month hearing horror stories about how difficult the Radahn fight was, how nuts it was, everyone kept hyping it, from my friends to the internet and anyone inbetween. I was terrifiend of facing him, so I decided to finish Limgrave first, then Raya Lucaria, then Volcano Manor + a bunch of side quests. Finally mustered up the courage to fight Radahn at level 75. Fought him on horse with my Bloodhound Fang +9, stomped his ass, didn't even need to use two estus. Ultra anticlimactic.
It's no one's fault that this happened and I'm sure he must be really challenging if you fight him earlier on, but I learned a valuable lesson: stop reading what people post about the game online until after I played it. If I hadn't been so scared of Radahn, I certainly would've fought him earlier and would've had a much better fight. Also I understand that they nerfed him, so maybe that influenced my experience.
Also, on the flipside, everyone that I knew always said that Rykard was such an easy bossfight, the easiest one of the lord souls, etc. Got my ass HANDED to me 15 or so times by that freak.
Rykard is laughably easy if you can get the stunlocking down using the spear.
one thing that is universal with every souls game is that every player is going to a have a different experience with a boss, some may find a particularly hard boss to be easy, and vice versa.
First of all, I have to mention that I haven't got to Rykard or the other shardbearer guy from Leyndell, but I can say with a decent degree of confidence that Rennala is the easiest shardbearer boss out there. Phase one is an even easier Deacons of the Deep, and in phase two if you dodge/survive her initial lazor blast you can stunlock her to death in seconds. And if you want to make it easier still you can use the 3 wolves spirit ashes and watch as they deal with phase one almost by themselves.

I really hope in the DLC, for whatever reason, we can fight this beast of a boss before he had to hold back the star, before he was infected with rot. When he was REALLY a general, at full power.

I think a big part of it is that we know it’ll live up to the hype. Fromsoft makes enemies truly terrifying.

I beat Radahn on my second try. Although me personally found this boss easier than I would have expected, I enjoyed it SO much and this is easily my favourite boss so far in Elden Ring.

It was a very difficult fight b4 the recent patch..... They foolishly nerfed him..... Heard he was partially buffed again..... Wish they wud keep the same difficulty as it was b4

@@GauravKumar-wb9xp If you fought this guy day 1 or day 2, he would've rocked your world. Those meteors he summoned in the second phase spread many an asscheek, and his attacks had a bigger hitbox and dealt 40% more damage. They should've left him like that. He felt as powerful as he looked. It solidified it as the greatest game of all time for me.
I'd strongly recommend playing this fight with headphones, and turning the sound effects up to 10. The sheer force of his massive twin greatswords slamming the ground and the tiny shake in the screen when they do is palpable. Absolutely incredible boss

Alright fuck it, I’m gettin this shit tonight. As an avid Skyrim player who has abused the moddin option to make my game masochistically difficult up to psychopathic proportions, Elden Ring looks like it may just give me a fresh delivery of absurd punishment until ES6 is released. Never been a fan of the DS series because of its linearity, but ima give this crazy lookin shit a go!

Y'know, I wouldn't have minded Prime Radahn being the final boss if he had a ridiculously good moveset to make up for it. But Radahn in the DLC already looks weaker and easier than his Starscourge counterpart... I personally haven't reached the Radahn fight in the DLC yet and have only watched through videos, so I might be proven wrong, but dang, they really couldn't think of a better boss than this? (Ehem ehem, Miquella himself.)

Actually,like you said,the premise of a Prime Radahn is interesting.
But they executed this so poorly,Design wise and moveset.
And the fact that he doesn't have any lines of dialog,makes he a shallow character in the DLC.

Man,like a said,I don't see a problem with that. But they could definitely do better than what we got. Some lines,bigger and breathtaking attacks. I just feel that it was so shallow.
At first I thought it was pointlessly absurd that From gave a massive beast like Radahn this dinky little horse to ride on, but after awhile it started to make sense from a design perspective.
I have a hunch that From wanted to keep the focus of Radahn on Radahn while still giving him an excuse to effortlessly glide around the arena. Making the horse any bigger would distract from Radahn's design and presence, but the horse is still needed as a logical way to grant him that extra mobility. And so that compromise was made, and the anti-gravity magic powers were added to better help explain why this weird setup was feasible in the first place.
I could be wrong, but it's nice to speculate on the thought process that went behind such a unique boss design.
Plus it gave rise to one of the most touching pieces of side lore in the game, as well as some fun community jokes so the horse is truly a genius piece of design.
The anti-gravity magic was not only for the horse but also for the story in general. It's his magic which holds the stars back and nothing else.

Fuck it. I'll say it. Best fight of the entire souls series. The setup, the setting, the fight. Holy hell
This whole fight was just gorgeous as well as insane, at 2:30 when you see him in the distance and start to run as the purple arrows shoot past you, as well as seeing him shoot towards you as a meteor….this isn’t just one of my favourite boss battles ever but one of my favourite ever gaming moments

The poor guy and his horse
For anyone having trouble with this guy, since I´ve seen some debate over the quality and mechanics of the boss, I´m going to detail some of my experience aswell as some "strats" that I found to be somewhat consistent to a nice degree. Mind you, this is gonna be long.
- During the *Ranged Phase* , as seen in the video, he will do the purple snipe shot 3 times. After the 3rd one, he will do the arrow rain and shotgun barrage. *BUT* if you run with the horse in a wider arc to the left (yours) to use the covers (I think there is two or three), as you start closing the distance with him he will do a *4th purple shot* . You can either roll through or use the covers in between while still on your horse. *If you remained on the horse and took use of the covers, you can take advantage of his "pulls out the blades" animation by running towards him, jumping off your horse and land a safe fall attack.*
- For *Melee Phase* , rotate around, seek either for his back or a front opening, learn the timing of his moves. Lots of his attacks have wide telegraphs, it can be tricky some times, and panic rolling may save your ass one or maybe two times, but much like other bosses (Nameless King comes to mind) if you start panic rolling, you are pretty much dead, so be patient. In this phase you can sort of force his jump forward slam attack by staying in front of him at a specific distance. This can be easily rolled through and will give you a few free hits depending on your weapon/s.
- *Second Phase* , OH My GoD ThE MeTeOR CoMEth I DoN´T HaVE TIMe wHEre Is iT coMING FrOm I DOnT HAve TIm - *DUDE CALM DOWN* , you do have time, just don´t panic. Even if you don´t see it you can safely run away in your horse, and if your horse is dead and you don´t want to re-summon you can still run away from it provided that you have some certainty where is it coming from, so you will need to move the camera around. In my case, *aside from what I believe is the west side of the arena (Redmane Castle as reference)* , this attack usually came ( depending on your position on the arena I guess) from *two directions, either left side of the Erdtree or from the east side of the arena* (there is a sinking ship in the distance that can sort of be used as reference).
- Take special advantage of his gravitational pull, the aoe slam follow up can be dodged by simply rolling a few times to his back and you will get some nice hits. Since I was afraid of the *4 meteor boulders* that can pretty much one shot you, and of course his other purple orbs attack, I just called the horse and start running away until he fired those, the first one in particular, (although it may take a while) then I dismounted and resumed combat. *There is a dune (the one he begins the fight on) that offers a good natural cover from those attacks if you just run in circles around it* , but any other high enough elevation of terrain can be used . *WARNING:* If you follow said strat, there is a chance he will do the meteor attack a second time, so be wary.
-My last piece of advice for this phase comes for a very scary move that I didn´t know how to dodge safely, the *Double Air Spin of death* , I could have killed this guy several times if it wasn´t for this move. The only thing that got me through it is quickly getting up after the first one and heal to tank the next one, after that I healed again and continue fighting. Additionally, as seen in the video, bloodloss is very effective, aswell as freeze weapons/spells and Rot damage if you want a more cheesy approach.
Remember, *you DON´T have to force yourself through this fight, or any fight.* After he killed me several times, I said "ok Ill do some exploring instead" and then came back a bit more leveled up, with my build improved (I was also going katana dualwield), became more consistent in the fight and managed to do it without summoning any of the NPCs, without having to use a single Runic Arc at all, and with 5 estus left out of 10, only took damage in his second phase. The fight felt pretty damn epic and it was a very satisfying moment to perform so well to a degree I can assure I wasn´t even expecting.

elden ring really punishes bad habits like panic rolling so I guess a lot of so called “veterans” must have been filtered
@@tsurugi5 I realized panic rolling wasn’t an option in this fight when I remembered the man is literally on a horse obviously he can reach me anywhere so being close to him was the best bet. Once you lock on to him though it becomes not too bad of a challenge even without summons and becomes a really fun fight. Anyone complaining about his attacks being unfair just didn’t bother to learn them

It's the bleed build man I tell ya. I just beat this boss with no summons and dual wielding katanas. The bleed damage is just so high.

This fight i liked for its difficulty (depending on where you are in the game) and for its scale. I think just summoning all of the people you can summon and just riding up to him is very cinematic. I don't normally use summons but I believe it makes this boss better just seeing all the npcs you just summon get destroyed by radahn showing how strong that dude is and how hopeless the fight could be. I think he's just cool.

I'm better fighting him solo. Summons just mess his patterns. I think relying on summon wouldn't save you on ng+.
in NG they die so fast. I couldn't imagine how useless these npc on NG+.
my guess you need git gut beating this guy by your own like a true warrior and it's worth after getting smashing 15 times I could beat him solo and understand all of his patterns by my own.
The way that audio cuts out is one of the most effective things I've ever heard in a game.

I never noticed this before, but the gold etching/design on his swords represent a planet's magnetism, with the North and South pole exploding. This would explain his gravity magic. What a cool little attention to detail.

Soulsborne games generally do an amazing job at conveying the sheer power of the bosses we fight, mainly by having us experience that power first-hand. Radahn is something else. We hear of his exploits, of how he is the mightiest of the demigods, how he learned gravitational magic just to ride his horse, how he brought Malenia to a stand-still, how he _fought the fucking stars and won_ and then we see him in person and all of that shit makes complete sense. From him being able to snipe you from across the map, to unleashing the widest AoE attacks I’ve ever seen in a souls game, to falling from the sky like a goddamn meteor and hitting like a truck on top of that, we understand that this is definitely a being that could do of all that.

just beat radahn, and what a battle! Summoning Alexander and Patches and wolf dude and the others was so cool! The meteor attack caught me completely off guard, and his little horse is hilarious. A great boss overall

The greatest boss fight… All the lore around the General and the stars you learn. The build-up of just making it across Caelid to the festival. The battlefield having its own map area. Having to climb the hill to your opponent. The MUSIC! I could go on. It’s such an incredible experience.
Love how the scenery changes from red to night when radahn jumps in the sky.
I picked up every summon the game allowed me to, let them hold aggro, and stood back chucking lightning bolts: while sipping -estus- tears, getting hit by every projectile and complaining entirely too much. Truly the way it's meant to be played.
You sir, are a goddamned legend. I just got to him last night, and although I had a suspicion this could be done I did t think it would be done already so expertly. Who trades blows with General Radhan like that lmao.
If you lock on the fight becomes manageable which isn’t what expected since he is so big. Once you do that all of his attacks have really good tells and there are a lot of opportunities to hit him since he’ll hit in places you would be not locked on for a lot of attacks.

Radahn has to be the most respected and honored boss in the game by the souls community. I can safely say that he is up there with Gael, Artorias and Ludwig as the souls community most favorite bosses in the series
Knight Artorias is my all time fave out of all the fromsoft games. i beat him first try. studied his moves for a long time before i went for the kill.

Easily my favorite boss in the game, the music, the buildup, the scale, the backstory, the fight itself. They all just culminate together into this amazing boss battle, man I remember screaming when I beat him as my friends watched and cheered me on, a boss I'll never forget.

Fought this guy with the summons on the map, got him to about 20% hp, he jumped into the sky and NEVER came back down, was so mad, took me so many tries to finally get close to killing him and he yeets himself into space and never came down had to reset the game and start over…

The beginning of the fight when Radahn is shooting arrows at you from range reminds me of closing in on Spirit of Motherwill in Armored Core For Answer having to dodge the laser blasts
