Love that the thumbnail says METAL Gear Strive. lol Also Guilty Gear is a HUGE loveletter to rock/metal of the 80s and 90s. The main character is named after Freddie Mercury.
So glad you got around to listening to Stephen Taranto! He definitely is one of the main guys pushing the envelope in the prog guitar playing scene imo
You should check out Skid Row with their latest singer. He won the Swedish version of American Idol back in 2009 and did such a good job he not only got standing ovations on multiple songs but KISS even featured one of the songs on their website. Sadly, earlier this year, he had to take time off to prioritize his recovery from leukemia.
I don't think he remembered(it was a bit ago), but Smell of the Game was the first Guilty Gear song that Geebz listened to. If you want to see that reaction, it is in the March 15 2023 video on his VoD channel.
Skid Row, I still go back and listen to quite a bit, so it was nice to see you reacting to them. Love Sebastian Bach's voice, love their perfect 80s rocker vibe. Whitesnake was known for "borrowing heavily" from Led Zeppelin with many of their tracks, but Still of the Night is probably the most famous for it because it was a HUGE hit single in 1987. Not just with guitar & vocals, where it's most obvious, but even the drums were given a very Bonham sound for that album. Not super familiar with Stephen Taranto, but apparently he's touted as one of the best modern progressive guitar players around, right now. His skill is inarguable, and you can tell he likes stuff like Between the Buried and Me, Animals As Leaders, etc. The Guilty Gear track was fun and weird. Though the 80s is my wheelhouse decade for music, I was not a big Savatage guy. I saw them open a show once, for Megadeth & Dio, in like 87-88...but I was too interested in Megadeth to care much about anything else. Cool track, though...I will be checking more of their stuff out. Very familiar with Darkthrone, but haven't listened to them in awhile. This track was deep, heavy and great, as they tend to be. Glad you enjoyed listening to all of this...cool to see. Thanks!
The lead singer of WhiteSnake is David Coverdale. In the early days of WhiteSnake people would pester him with questions about mimicking Led Zeppelin. I saw a few of those where he'd give assorted cute answers but sidestep the question. I then saw an interview where he got exasperated and said something like _"Of course we're influenced by Led Zep, but it's not like we just stole their stuff. We're also influenced by the same artists who influenced Led Zep, and we're also adding our own ideas"._ It seemed to me that after that interview Jimmy Page (at least) was comfortable with WhiteSnake's music. I'm pretty sure that Robert Plant is still rather dismissive of David Coverdale. In the 1990's Jimmy and David paired up for one album under the name "Coverdale • Page". It's a very good album. They went on tour and started working on songs for a second album, and then the tour was over and they never got back together. Jimmy has said that they might release some deluxe version of that first album for some anniversary, but Jimmy has a lot of other projects that he putters away at so who knows if that will happen. I think Jimmy said they do have a few extra songs lying around.
You'd love Guilty Gear Strive top to bottom. The director also composes and gave every character their own song.

Geez, I've never linked "Still of The Night" to Zeppelin! Now it all makes sense!
Thank you Geebz
