      Elephant is a rare meat to get. Not very good to eat. It is used in chinese medicine which is the real reason why people hunt these animals. Chinese pay millions for certain animals especially elephant. I still cannot find footage of the rare chinese elephant foot dish, but its served at rare parties in china.

      @@blackleague212 well there's that and Ivory. Funny enough there was a conservation effort to preserve the Rhinos by essentially farming them and cutting their horns the traditional way not ripping your horn off and selling it. However one of their government made a law against it which actually was meant so that the price would stay relatively High. Another words political corruption killed a lot of rhinos and many other animals that honestly would have been very beneficial long-term as opposed to motivated by greed. But even then greed can be quelled when it's behind someone who actually cares. But unfortunately that is a utopian idea

Look at those words. They wait till the animals population is countable and damn near interbred, then they regulate which ones are too aggressive for the " human balance" so they kill those off. thats slavery. This is true in theory but unfortunately in practice especially on private ranches instead of taking weaker animals and more aggressive ones like people claim usually the largest healthiest animals are killed because they look the most impressive also compared to ecotourism very little of the money goes back to the community

    • @denniskirsch7354
      @denniskirsch7354 Před 2 lety +4

      @@thatsalotofsodiumcoins1615 this is not entirely true. The bigger "trophy" specimens that are harvested in these situations are done so because they are beyond their prime, which means basically beyond breeding and/or near the end of the known natural lifespan. The "scrub" animals that are smaller, more aggressive, etc. are also taken regularly as part of multi limit/species hunts and are typically used as both food and bait for other animals. It they only took the type of animals you are talking about their local populations would not only plummet due to the over-harvesting of breeding age animals, but the prime genetics would be wiped out leading to poor quality trophies which would cause them to lose revenue through future bookings of hunters. There may be some unethical outfitters and guides out there with such practices, but they are few and far between. Good conservation tactics benefit not only the species and local herds, but the local people and guides as well. Nobody is paying multiple thousands, and up, for inferior genetics that cannot produce superior specimens. Not to mention the fact that locals work for such outfits in varying capacities, and are compensated very well for their work. Beyond that, the local economy is further supported through the business that these outfitters give to other local establishments for food, supplies, etc. Enlighten me as to how ecotourism provides more help financially, or otherwise, to the local population in such areas.

      @@thatsalotofsodiumcoins1615 Wrong X 2. This wasn't a game farm. At 16:18 he says it is a CAMPFIRE area. Meaning Communal Areas Management Programme for Indigenous Resources where communities own the wildlife and get meat and a portion of the trophy fees along with employment.
      Also, photo tourism requires a denser wildlife population and would be unsuccessful where tourists have to actually search, sometimes for days to get a picture. They want them many, varied and with nice views behind them. Hunters prefer a hunt. Local people even in good tourist areas prefer having problem wildlife either culled or harvested. Matswana have told me they resent photo tourist operations because almost all the money goes to the operators and like the guy says at 23:11 meat is required and the locals prefer an option of having them hunted as necessary. Hunting gives wildlife a greater value to the community and then there is incentive to reduce poaching.

      yes.
      the one that "hire" them to kill elephant are the african, so they can eat.
      the hunters pay large sum of money to kill it and the money is used to preserved the land.
      so tldr, african get to eat, the money used to preserve, the hunter hunting to balance the animal numbers.
      hunting is not what you often see on tv, thats what poachers do.

      @@LR-jb6zn I'm from Srilanka, i know about preservation, there is a large number of elephants in our country within a extremely limited area, we don't have a policy to kill them to control numbers and also elephants are not carnivores so it can be controlled by other means.
      Westerners are criticizing the domestication of elephants in Srilanka and other Asiatic countries, killing to conserve; personally i dont believe that and also there are ways to preserve other than killing.
      We humans have come through a long way in evolution that we have modified domesticated animals(farm animals) to consume as food, we don't want to move back through the timeline and become early humans right?

      Countries government makes money on trophy fee, the local people are paid for the elephant and then they get all the meat. The local people get food and money for education and the hunter takes away the inedible trophy. The hunting of wild game is recognised as a driving force for paying for conservation and education in rural Africa. It is overseen by international committees who agree quotas and who recognise that poaching and killing by slow methods or ineffectual weapons is much less when the quarry has a financial value to the locals. Many people are employed by the guide and they too contribute to the local economy.
