    I'm an ENFP in my 30s and I can't stress enough how NICE is to age and get better at knowing myself! Against our society that sees aging as something negative and saddening. I couldn't be happier 😁

    Heidi, your insights into this cognitive stack are far and away the best of any content creator at applying personality theory to our personal development and healing. It's like other content creators are either offering to read to us from the dictionary or perform a stereotypical skit, (Fi/Ne disclaimer: it's all appreciated), but you are the one integrating it into meaningful, applicable, insightful paradigm shifts to balance out the feedback we have received from a society that doesn't respect us because it doesn't understand us. It's like being hungry and the only other things out there to consume is candy or castor oil. Then you come along with fresh baked banana bread. It meets a real need. Stay encouraged and connected to yourself so you can keep doing what you do best and bringing all of us along on an Ne/Fi journey of personal growth. ~ INFP

    Whew! As a mid-50 yo ENFP I think a lot of what you said is absolutely true. A lot depends on just how odd woman out you were in your family, I think. My parents and siblings were DEFINITELY not like me, in fact my mother once told me I was different than her other children while never elaborating on how. I was told by one brother when I was just out of college and changing jobs after 6 months on my first job that I couldn’t just keep changing jobs like that (which confused me b/c I don’t know why he cared if I was able to support myself, etc). Anyone, I let their pressure push me into becoming and medical doctor which was a HUGE mistake. One word of advice I’d give younger ENFPs is do be careful enough what you decide to explore to avoid those things that are VERY hard to get out of. It took me 10 years, $31,000 for a insurance tail to quit doing OB, much flailing about and an ultimate breakdown to get myself out of this huge mistake. I did manage to find nonclinical work that still uses my degree that was a slightly better fit but it’s getting old now after 10 years and I’m working on moving on to the next thing. I totally relate to what you were saying about making systems that help support you being who you want to be. During the breakdown years I started systematizing as much as I could so I could be free to at least mentally wander without terrible things happening. Now, although the job isn’t the best for me I at least work from home so that allows me to do things like watch interesting YT videos while working :-). I’m currently focusing hard on my investments to set them up to pay me as much as possible (in addition to plans to move to a lower cost country) so I can be free to finally let my ENFP free to be who she wants to be with finances there to support me. So, for all those younger ENFPs, just be a bit more careful than I was in what you wander into (make sure getting out isn’t too hard) and realize if you don’t give up you will eventually figure out a way to live in a way that makes you happy.

    This is so true. I was in pain my whole life because I never fed my inner child because I did things that were expected of me while being abused by everyone. Now I'm doing things for the experience. I got back into learning japanese, I'm actively meeting people from different cultures and I'm excited and looking forward to learn new things.

    I turn 55 on Monday. I'm an ENFP, an Achiever/Enthusiast (Enneagram), with Achiever/Learner/Individualization/Input/Maximizer themes (Strengthsfinder).
    I’m naturally curious and definitely an infinite learner. I have a BSC, with a double major in Philosophy and Public Relations; a minor in Marketing; a Juris Doctor; and I’m expected to complete my MS in I-O Psychology in 2022. I’m also an ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC), and a graduate of iPEC Professional Coach Training Program, where I obtained my Certified Professional Coach (CPC) and Energy Leadership Index Master Practitioner (ELI-MP). I'm also a Strengthsfinder Coach and a Federal Government Career Coach.
    I've had soooo many jobs: Public Relations/Advertising, Attorney, Talent Development Manager, professional coach.....Private sector, public sector, retail.... I've done it all! 🤣

      Our resumes sound similar, except my sister is in the legal field. I am in my late 30s and I am so interested in law. Unfortunately, I don’t have the degree. I know that it’s some thing that’s attainable, but for now, I am going back-and-forth. Your titles and retail, advertising, PR all relate precisely to mine.
      If you don’t mind elaborating on your current role (I’m definitely going to research it now because it sounds intriguing!
      Mind elaborating on current career?

  • @shiny_x3
    @shiny_x3 Před 2 lety +9

    One thing that has mellowed as I've gotten older is that I don't have as much of a boom and bust cycle about the things I'm interested in. I'm able to sustain attention on something for longer (probably also from being more judicious about what I invest time in), and I also don't worry so much about "lulls" because I know I'll find something new to be interested in soon enough. I also have stopped feeling like I need to reinvent myself with every new thing I'm interested in. I have a more stable sense of self (this is also from healing attachment and CPTSD), so I can be a person who has interests rather than feeling like each new interest is something I am investing my entire sense of self in and becoming a different person. I also am more aware of potential downsides and willing to investigate them. For example, after watching #vanlife videos and fantasizing, I actually went to an RV show to see how I might feel and realized there's no way that I want to live in a vehicle no matter how nice the scenery is. I feel more grounded and practical, in a good way.

    You are so accurate. You just went through my whole maturity journey as an ENFP. I grew up pretending to be someone different, I developed my Fi so that I could be in control of myself not my feelings. Now it's just a partner. I worked hard so I could be myself and I am very aware of my weaknesses and I often ask people for advice if I need it. I have always understood the importance of stability so I never really struggled with be super chaos. What helps with me in interacting with people is I build upon what others people and I find what's interesting in those people so I can stop focusing on myself too much.

And I was able to come to this video again, and I continued nodding, because for this long journey of self-development that I have been venturing, I am experiencing maturity compared to who I was before I sought my self.
    Wah was it nostalgic. I really listened to this with my whole heart last time and I think my life is getting better.

      If you think that then perhaps you actually aren’t. A sign of maturity is the awareness that you have room to grow!

    • @onjelbercier
      @onjelbercier Před 7 měsíci +1

      @guacgod6544 20 now. And I wasn’t trying to say I didn't have room to grow. I was just acknowledging the fact that I didn’t have to (or already have) overcome certain hurdles that this video mentions to be who I am. Which I can only accredit to the people in my life who have influenced me greatly. Self-relflection and self-correction will always put you on a fast track, so I am just surprised that many others don't necessarily do that. And anyway, I don’t think this video was referring to actual maturity as much as emotional and social aptness. So keeping things in context, I was only saying that according to what this lady said, I am a mature ENFP. And I see nothing wrong with acknowledging ones own maturity. If I stated it too plainly for you, than sorry. I often write concise comments.

    I have learnt that i need "processing" sessions to keep my mind clean and balanced.
    Something happens that might start screaming and withdrawing when i was younger. Now gets noted for " processing" at a later date. The process is this... why did this upset me? Is this something to do with me? Is this their issue? Is this my issue? Is this something i need to bring up with them?
    I find just giving myself a little time to let it settle, gives me the space to let my rational self calm the rest of us and then we can start seeing other perspectives.

    As always you are a valuable source of useful information! I am 73 yo and have had an interest in social network dynamics and community formation. People separate based on politics(extremely obvious) but there are many other factors that are not so obvious. Openness to experience which correlates strongly with political orientation is also associated with a willingness to look at ideas that most people will find ridiculous, like mental telepathy or precognition. Another factor is intelligence. Einstein probably did not have Joe the plumber over for dinner very often(if ever). If you combine those two factors as outliers (less than one in a thousand)with an ENFP personality, you have a very colorful mix. I know from personal experience. My universe of exploration has been primarily the universe of ideas. Ideas are my toys. I have only held a full time job (40+ hrs/wk) for just 7 of my 73 years I have been able to get by on well enough remunerated from part-time work(I have an MS in mathematics after leaving a PhD program ABD) and have no regrets about how I have lived my life. I am a lifelong learner and am learning more now than ever(I am learning German, Spanish, and French as well as neuroscience, Buddhist philosophy, mythology and so much more. The internet was a gift from God)

    There is SO much wisdom here. I'm excited to learn more from you. Boy, do I need to learn how to balance my Te and Fi.... that's where I am now. I have finally disciplined myself enough that I have created and succeeded in living an SJ life! (There is a high SJ dominance in my family.) Of course, my way of succeeding in my leadership role is completely ENFP! But I have been yearning for all of the ENFP creativity I used to experience (art, dance, acting, writing, singing, playing music) when I wasn't succeeding in the approved way. I've learned a lot about making goals happen and leading having gone down my current path - and I'm very hopeful at the thought that I can accept my ENFP self more using what I've learned. .... I can relate to becoming friends with my emotions and feel like I do now appreciate my ability to feel very deeply while also having some distance and understanding my emotions - and I feel proud that I can now be self-aware - even when experiencing intense emotions.... "Show up as your authentic selves without being off-putting..." Ha! That is hilarious and I can relate. Tip for anyone feeling this way... try something where weirdness is celebrated. I've worked in very conservative business settings where I really have had to play a role at times. And I want to be appropriate but it can be a bummer. While I was working in those settings, I started taking improv classes and performing comedy improv. It was such a miracle to me that not only was my weirdness tolerated - it was celebrated and praised. I'm still working on how to be myself without being off-putting. Currently, the part of myself that I want to bring forward in a non-off-putting way is not exuberance or silliness - it is my idealistic/ethical side. I think people are getting a little sick of me bringing up the ethical ramifications of decisions and I'd like to learn to do that in a way that isn't off-putting... I feel like sharing this with every ENFP in the world. ... Thank you for this video!

    I don't know how to emotionally deal with my fear of risk taking?

    • @thefilipinojoe
      @thefilipinojoe Před 5 měsíci

      I like to say that fear is a cautionary sign not a stop sign. A lot of times we can remove a fear by pinpointing or dissecting it and then addressing it to lessen or eliminate it.
      For example if you fear moving somewhere new, and you realize that your fear has more to do with not having enough money to feel safe, you can wait until you have enough money to move there.
      It’s also helpful to remind ourselves that we don’t know the future. Meaning that if we don’t take the risk and do whatever it is, we are wanting to do, we could end up in a worse situation by staying put.
      That happened to me when I moved to the Philippines. I was scared to death to move here. The risk was huge. But I left anyways, and made the big move. Then not only did the crime drastically increase where I left in the US, but so did the prices.
      So, little did I know because I didn’t know the future, that the bigger risk was staying put. My dream was to live in the Philippines inexpensively and I succeeded at that (with a cost-of-living of about $250 a month).
      I’m also a believer that we can choose our future and that whatever choices we make naturally becomes our future. So decision making and following through with our decisions is actually a superpower if we choose to utilize it.

      Since being 32. I was mature due to basically raising myself and being my own parent in some areas early on, but then the whole Si stuff overwhelmed me when I was a teenager. I moved out to live on my own while still in high school... Way too early for me. I did traumatherapy and inner childwork and that helped me a lot and makes me more mature now. So much so, that I feel I almost changed too much over the past years and was afraid I might loose my childlike self ✨

      When I had my first child, I had a HUGE shift start to happen. I was in my late 20s. It kind of felt like waking up.
      Now, a decade later, I have such an appreciation for the Si side of things. Children thrive on routine, and as I desperately tried to provide that, it started to become clear that I do, too!
      Make the boring stuff automatic, and you'll have so much more energy for the fun stuff!
