Heard about YMG for years and at 58 I'm just now getting into them. What did you like about them?
@duckbrew The instant You hear the 'Noodlings .or the Drum Machine. 'It Catches one's Attention 'like Wait a Min...?..It's A classic In So many Ways. it probably Was the Same In most places @80'..All the budding Muso's Had this L.P.in Dunedin.Otago South Island N.Z..feel it Shaped Many Early Dn Bands &,Flying Nun.Records R.I.P.Martin.Phillipps-#The CHILLS😢. [@Chillblue07. -Lots of Early Dn Bands.etc there..Had a girlfriend wth a Simple Cassette plyr.Few tapes.1-We'd Play.'TYMG.lp.flip it over Billie Holliday. That's all that was needed.too

I saw them at The Keystone in Palo Alto,CA in 1981 with Caberet Voltaire. I was blown away by this group. Their stage presence was incredible. You knew that you were seeing something very special. I'm glad I saw them. Long live Colossal Youth

Minimalist Royalty. The way those two guys play off each other’s little melodies is hypnotic. Subtle and her dreamy vocals have me in a trance here.
- Colossal Youth has been a favourite since its release, and now when everything is overhyped and overproduced this is just the best ❤
i love how stripped down their sound is. it isnt layered with too many instruments, they dont need that to sound good. it sounds very fragile and pretty
And very contemporary!
I used to listen to the YMG as a teen, 35 years later these melodies still are in my mind...
Whenever I need to explain to someone the relationship between Indie and Punk music, I'll show them this
Every note of Colossal Youth is etched in my brain from when I listened to YMG endlessly my last 2 yrs of HS (‘82-‘83). Singular sound and feeling they created. It is amazing to see them play and hear them live. Thank you!

Wow...there was a small group of us who 'got' this band. So glad to see this and to see the following out there. I know very little about them but their music ranks right up there with my favorites of all time.

they are playing their instruments/singing as if they had invented it. it's so original and it's mesmerizing.

My God! I am watching this for the first time. Maybe the greatest live set ever recorded...
YMG is one of my favorites. So ahead of their time, and so unique in theirs. I could listen to young Allison read the phone book. (which of course were common in those days)
One of the best, saw them in 1979 and etched into my soul since then. Often listen now and still totally uniques and deep. A truly seminal band....
Love the young marble giants. My teenage years was so wonderful....with John peel....and so many extraordinary bands...I was so lucky.....cheers
Got Colossal Youth in the '80s; NITA, their opener was my fave. Western Front is in Vancouver BC during their only North American tour. Found out they broke up Jan. 1981. Allison Statton is now a chiropractor.
I remember when this first came out.Now I'm 61 and still love it.

Achingly beautiful. Wonderful that this footage exists - how I'd love to have seen them at this time. N.I.T.A., Choci Loni and Brand - New - Life are probably my favourites, thogh it's damn near impossible to single out 'top' tracks from Colossal Youth because they're all pure gold.

Thanks for this. What a gem! Colossal Youth is my favourite album ever and comes from a great time of music in my teenage years. Wurlitzer Jukebox on here has the same effect that Ceremony from New Order does. It takes me back to a different time and place and this music will always be part of me. Appreciate you sharing this.

Wow, I stumbled upon this whilst having a general CZcams music video evening, I never even knew that a YMG gig video recording existed. I think that I shall be returning to this from now on. I really would've loved to have been there on the night. Awesome.

Saw them at the 101 Club in Clapham Junction when they supported Sad Among Strangers.. Bothering wonderful bands.. Very nostalgic.

Love this whole show more than anything, but the thing that strikes me this time through is how similar Phil's basslines are to Peter Principle's lines from early Tuxedomoon... that muted and hand-damped thing were a response to the bombast of rock and have aged incredibly gracefully...

I saw them live in San Francisco (in an outdoor concert of all things) in 1980. Colossal Youth is one of my all time fav albums.
