- A perfect day out in the field!
Went out monitoring our common adder (Vipera berus) populations in Flanders in order to study population size and spatial ecology.
Handling or capturing adders in Belgium is only allowed with specific permits
What fun. Looks like you're having a great time.
What kind of venom does the Vipera berus have? Great video!
What the venom like towards humans and other mammals? Is it just a painful bite, or is it actually deadly? Or is it like American Copperhead? Not really deadly, but with be a miserable couple of days.
It is not to be underestimated! While some people experience pain, swelling and only minor systemic issues, others can barely keep consciousness, become nauseous, get in trouble with their blood values and need antivenom to recover.
I got bitten by one last year when i was dirt biking, just a small swelling no pain whatsoever so i guess just a varning bite. But people have died by it.
Sometimes the venom kill sometimes it doesn't
Niice man i found 1m and 34cm grass snake yesterday
Dope!! That’s a decent sized Natrix!
@@HerpChannel yea its snake wedding in estonia if ik what that means
Is is only🏴
it’s not
Hey, where did you buy the tube for measurements? I do reacher my self and i meet the snakes with measuring tape. A tube is better but cant find one on the internet
Hi! I made them myself! The key is to buy a measuring tape and a transparent tube and add both together :) just glue the measuring tape to the inside of the tube.
@@HerpChannelthat is a good idea indeed! Did you glue the measuring tape on the inside or outside? I think i will make two beacuse its for smooth snakes and adders. Last adder that i found was insanly thick and huge i. Super nice specimen
Stomp that thing
Why considering their importance
Auch... as an active member of a vulnerable and disappearing ecosystem, it has more positive value to our planet than most humans... What do you do to preserve and protect our planet?
So... no thanks, seems like a dumb choice :/
