On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8. - Hry

I think ED have actually managed to make the AI pretty competitive, really nice work big thank you for Longshot for helping with this video don't forget to check out his channel and show him some love. Thanks for watching guys I'll see you in the next one. Much Love.
Day 23: aim 54 vs r37
Hey GS can you bring the A10 back again, it's been a while since we've seen it
Please GS do a video on Mig 29 over Yugoslavia in 1999 during NATO offensive , against f16 or f15
F-22 VS Ten North Korean MIG-29's BVR!👍
Would be cool to see more wingman dogfights from all eras with you two!
Agreed.
That would be pretty awesome
They should included IL-2 WW1
I love the 2v2 fights. It's not as straightforward as 1v1s, but also less chaotic than larger brawls. The end result is interesting fights where good team tactics is far more important than the technical capabilities of the individual planes. In short, MOAR PLEEZ!
In short, more akin to what real pilots go through
Hope you don't mind me saying but I'd prefer a greater proportion of your videos to contain BVR fights, SEAD and missions. The guns only dogfights are cool but more variety would be nice, especially as you (and Longshot) understand the systems and tactics better than a lot of others.
Agreed!

Dogfights was my favorite show on history channel as a kid, this channel really takes me back and I appreciate you for it.
AI for sure is more challenging.
Good fight, nice video brother!
Cheers!
I would love to see you all turn around and swap aircraft after one of these videos. Do one fight in the Hornet, then one fight against it. As always, great video!
If by design the AI is less aggressive due to conscious fuel conservation, would giving them a tanker make them more aggressive?
Cool to see how tactics still defeats raw kinetic performance
Love the BVR fights.
I like your buddy Longshot he sounds like he's really pulling G's! Makes it more real and fun to watch!
Hey GS maybe for one of your next videos do a dogfight between the f15stol/mtd and the f16c. Also maybe bvr with the viper against the Russian su30
Love it when you two fly together, great vid as always guys!
The instant in all of the dramatic scenes of Top Gun 2 I knew what the indicators were because of GS. Thank you for all the hours you put in for us all to learn and be entertained!!
Nice teamwork and communication. That is how you survive.
As soon as I heard Longshot's voice, I knew this would be an amazing video and liked it immediately.
Been waiting for this for a while, awesome!
Yes! I love team BVR. Super immersive. Awesome video!
Would love to see this fight with F35’s and Flankers
this bvr fight was littt!!!! Great show guys !
"In our FAT Hornet" How dare you! 😂😂
That was a really cool fight! Very educational!
Unofficial day 92 of asking gs to fight against the f22 in a warbird
you lose before taking off :X
Great show man! 🤘
Seeing as how missile-repellant bundles of chaff seems to be, I propose we should start making anti-tracking aircraft out of the same material!
It's almost like the glint hurts the missile's... eye?
(Yes I'm being sarcastic. No it isn't realistic behavior ether except, perhaps, for entirely analog pre-1980's missiles, where the added weight of the extra analog circuitry would be too detrimental to the missile's performance. Also, no, this has nothing to do with the "Doppler Notch".
While notch or comb filtering the returned spectrum to highlight larger doppler shifts is a real thing, it is never explained very well and is usually presented in a way that makes it seem like looking for a doppler-shifted radar return is the only way for aircraft to have any sort of usefull clutter rejection and that without it, look-down shoot-down capability would be impossible to achieve. In reality, more reflective, metallic, things still stand out from a less reflective dirt background, similar to how you are able to see anything at all on black-and-white photographs. It should also be remembered that, under most circumstances, even stationary things like the ground, when illuminated by a fighter's radar, will have a significant doppler shift upon reception of the return, because the fighter has a significant closing speed with the ground it is flying towards. What actually happens when a bandit 'notches' you, assuming the bandit is much closer to the ground than you are to him and that you have a significant altitude advantage, but only a very old analog radar with which to look-down upon him, is that because you are closing in on him with very nearly the same velocity that you are also closing in on the ground around him with, the doppler shift between you and him is the same as the doppler shift between you and the ground, that your radar is notch filtering out.
Furthermore, even at Mach 1, the ground beneath a fighter jet, which is operating at even modest altitudes, would almost look like it's standing still if you imagine looking at frames being taken at a rate similar to the PRFs of common fighter FCRs. Tracking a notching target can thus be achieved by simply taking 1 "ground scan" to use as a reference for subtracting the following 1-3 radar scans from. More complex, though still widely used, techniques involve things like inferring the 3D structure of the target by matching its temporal 'fingerprint' to that present in the returns, picking up specific spectral lines associated with the engine's compressor/turbine, or simply known mechanical vibrational modes of the target airframe, all of which is also very useful for NCTR.)
I honestly don't know of any other way to rationalise the AMRAAM suddenly veering away from both the direction of its intended target, as well as from the chaff that target dropped.
It almost seems like the missile mistakes the cloud of chaff for the ground of a really tall mountain and therefore initiated a ground-collision avoidance routine... However, as we all know from DCS, even after more than half a century of R&D (and the rise of fully reprogrammable: digital microcontrollers, fully digital closed-loop control systems, digital radar and even software-defined radio, as well as reprogrammable hardware in the form of FPGAs!), neither the US Government nor the entirety of the Military Industrial Complex have been able to come up with a way to program its million Dollar missiles to not simply nosedive below sea level, the moment that it seems like the target is on a downward attitude which would result (from a first-order approximation) in a negative-altitude interception point.
I would *really* love some more accurate radar tracking, and EW in general (even just completely deleting the notch mechanic would actually make the combat and especially the defensive tactics more realistic), but since ED has already said they fundamentally hate the idea of a so-called "wish them dead" missile (this is when a missile has a range of distances Rmin
Hey.....OPSEC 🤫
Growling Sidewinder and Longshot in the air!? Ima gonna pull a Jester and punch out now.
For a hell of a lot of fun try a 2v2 guns only.
For even more fun a 1v1v1v1 guns only. Start at quadrants 90 degrees apart at 10 nm from bulls eye. You only get to 'arm' after crossing within 1nm of bulls eye.
Most fun you can have with two wings and a jet engine.
2v2 is more stressful than 1v1, like it more, good job
Hey GS, great video as always!!
I have been wondering, when will you watch top gun mav? And will you make a vid about it?
I wake up and I watch GS. I get off work and I watch GS. I use the bowl and I watch GS. Only one human, other than numerous crazy cat ladies, has approached me about my cat person shirt. I think I might have a problem.
I don’t see any problems here….
@@GrowlingSidewinder Had a bad Falcon 3.0 addiction in High School. I cannot go down the rabbit hole. I know DSC would legit ruin my life. Thanks for living the dream.
Woohoo, GS video
Excellent analysis of the AI improvements.
Nice job 👍🏾
Hey GS, odd question but I was wondering, how are you enjoying vr? I remember you mentioning you picked up the pimax and a 3080, but the videos still look like they’re tracked unless you’re stabilizing it in edit? Also how’s zooming in vr (if you are in vr)? I imagine it’s nauseating at times but the way you use the view zoom looks so useful I’m tempted to just not bother with VR which is a shame since I only use vr for my other sims(racing)
Enjoyed that Thanks
YYYYEEEEEESSSSSS, the GS & LS Show.
High altitude - High speed: F-16
Low level - Subsonic: F-18
I enjoy watching you's guy's ;-)
Damn DCS is so beautiful !
This goes to show that the dogfight really isn't dead.
This isn't dogfighting
Here we go
@@whalehands4779 wdym here we go, this is quite litterally not dogfighting. I agree that the dogfight isn't dead but this video doesn't show it?
I used it in a general sense
Googled the definition for "Dogfight"
"Dog fight is a common term used to describe close-range aerial combat between two or more military aircraft."
The Navy will never be able to defeat the USAF!
Truth
Subbed to Longshot. Thanks!
F16 for the win
nah f18 on top
@@flightstatic4662 :(
The F-18s FCR suite and SA just makes all the difference. Such a more capable fighter
@@Jacksonflax the 16 stomps the 18 in almost every category except the amount of weapons it can carry. The Hornet is really easy to kill in BVR with the Viper.
@@anaugle2484 Hell you don't even have to use the FCR screen in the hornet anyway of you don't want to, Everythings already highlighted in your HMD and you can lock with the helmet out to 40 miles. Things insanely potent in BVR. It can also easily cruise near-mach at angels 40+ without burner.
Nice!
Oh could you try an BVR engagement over Guam since it's loaded with airfeilds and see if the AI would act differnt?
Now yur talkin...introducing more complexity & confusion. I know it's harder to set up but this it a nice advancement. Thanks for the work.
BVR way more different than those uploaded dogfight video. You are fighting with your instruments, that's why US are advancing their technology like the Avionics on their F/A-18F's. Fairly an advantage to those bandits.
It's not just on the F/A-18F. If the F/A-18C in DCS had the sensor fusion/advanced avionics it should, it'd be like flying a completely different aircraft in the BVR arena
that's pretty interesting. it's purely Multirole, can change from Air to Air and Air to Ground and purely dynamic aircraft. can do almost any types of mission scenario unless it is reconnaissance
So next, give them the same amount of 120's as you have 2v2 in Hornets
What radar are you guys using? APG-66, or APG-79
You should do a video where you are in a flight of 2 and merge with another flight of 2 enemies. 2V2 dogfight
Dogfight su 57 in the night?
How about 2-ship F-16V versus 2-ship Su-35?
What monitor do you use for dcs?
Hey GS could you bring the a 10 back, it's been a while since we've seen it
I would love to see it vs the new F-16 to see if bleeding speed or mantaining speed is better.
@papa_cuhsee you got a problem with the warthog?
F18's radar is better and can carry more weapons to hurl at bandits. But the Viper is better at everything else. The AN/APG-73 is nasty when used correctly.
Hey Growling, I noticed you weren't using TWS mode, in this situation why did you opt for RWS?
I find RWS to drop less often plus I had a wingman who could cover the other guy, from my understanding TWS or TWIZ isn’t used that often in real life, at least not as much as simmers would like to believe
more helicopters por favor
BVR, BVR, BVR!!!
You should do 2v2 dogfights
"1st Annual Growling Sidewinder 2v2 Tournament" Make it happen!! /../,
What does "Flight Control" mean?
He's pulling too hard.
GS Is great
AI getting dangerous :) Thanks guys!
I understand "Going defensive", but what does it mean again, by *"Going cold"?*
Hot = Nose pointing at bandits, Cold = tail pointing at bandits
@@Mike_Romeo ahhhh......got it. Thanks. 👍
Harrier and F22?
Lol. Stealth does help if your opponent doesn't have a radar

Hi! Question: you use vr or eye tracking device? Can you explain a little bit of the one you use?
Great videos man 😁
He used to use Track IR with the standard reflective head clip, however he has been trying the tobii Eye/head tracker. I don't know what he's been using primarily but I do believe that he said that he preferred the Tobii eye tracker.
I personally use the track IR 5 pro
if im not mistaken in a previous video he stated he uses Track IR
GIVE US SUPER HORNET!!!
There is no Super Hornet for this sim

Hey growling sidewinder please make a video of attack of bramhos missile on Chinese battle group or Chinese attack on Indian battle group

F18 is NOT A good fighter
It’s the best 4th gen when it comes to dogfighting but reason for defeat on the video is because gw doesn’t have near the experience in the hornet as he does the viper
