Gillingham fan here, it still breaks my heart knowing how agonisingly close we were to beating City at Wembley. Thankfully we went up the next year & I’m proud of how City have done since as they are such a huge Club that didn’t deserve to be in Division 2.
Still praying Gillingham do a Bournemouth one day, but here’s to both clubs, maybe we’ll meet again one day.

We were right at the top tier of seats at wembly, near the steps. We witnessed a mass exodus past in the last five minutes . It stopped when Horlock scored. Then when Dickov scored it was utter mayhem, stranger hugging strangers. I pratically celebrated by running down the steps hugging everyone in pure joy. I have a possible theory to pitch here, if you don't mind, I think it's because City don't always ram the game home. They take off the accelerator a little bit and that's where the advantage kicks in for the opposition. What City needs is a small core of good players as they do now, so that any setplays go on, it's through them and that way, the game's done and dusted.

Should bring the final strip back as away kit. Either that or the red and black one

As a Gills fan it still pains me, I was there and couldn't believe we were winning and the very second it went 2-1 i knew we lost the game! The atmosphere was electric, full capacity Wembley was buzzing! Although it wasn't the fairytale ending it was still an amazing game of football and I'd say it was the greatest playoff final to date. It changed Citys fortune that day and put you back where you belong as it was still a mystery to me how you ended up in the old second division lol

The Gills helped make it such a classic match. And obvs it was poetic justice that they got up the next year….by winning the playoffs in extra time.

This game will be elevated even higher if City wear the yellow again on Saturday v Inter 10-6-23. What a statement.

As a Argetinian I would say this is more dramatic that Aguero´s goal agains QPR.
